1 A t that time was Abijah son of Jeroboam sick,

En aquel tiempo, Abías hijo de Jeroboán cayó enfermo.

2 a nd Jeroboam saith to his wife, `Rise, I pray thee, and change thyself, and they know not that thou wife of Jeroboam, and thou hast gone to Shiloh; lo, there Ahijah the prophet; he spake unto me of king over this people;

Entonces el rey llamó a su esposa y le dijo: «Quiero que vayas a Silo, donde encontrarás al profeta Ajías, el que me dijo que yo sería rey de este pueblo. Pero disfrázate, para que nadie sepa que eres mi esposa.

3 a nd thou hast taken in thy hand ten loaves, and crumbs, and a bottle of honey, and hast gone in unto him; he doth declare to thee what becometh of the youth.'

Llévale diez panes, y tortas y un tarro con miel, y pregúntale qué va a pasar con nuestro hijo.»

4 A nd the wife of Jeroboam doth so, and riseth, and goeth to Shiloh, and entereth the house of Ahijah, and Ahijah is not able to see, for his eyes have stood because of his age.

La mujer de Jeroboán hizo lo que éste le ordenó y fue a Silo. Llegó a la casa de Ajías, que por su avanzada edad ya no podía ver.

5 A nd Jehovah said unto Ahijah, `Lo, the wife of Jeroboam is coming to seek a word from thee concerning her son, for he is sick; thus and thus thou dost speak unto her, and it cometh to pass at her coming in, that she is making herself strange.'

Pero el Señor le había dicho: «Ajías, la mujer de Jeroboán va a venir a consultarte acerca de su hijo enfermo. Viene disfrazada, pero cuando llegue le dirás lo que yo te mande.»

6 A nd it cometh to pass, at Ahijah's hearing the sound of her feet she came in to the opening, that he saith, `Come in, wife of Jeroboam, why is this -- thou art making thyself strange? and I am sent unto thee a sharp thing:

Cuando ella llegó y cruzó la puerta, Ajías escuchó sus pisadas y le dijo: «Entra, mujer de Jeroboán. ¿Por qué vienes disfrazada? Escucha bien, que tengo un mensaje muy duro para ti.

7 G o, say to Jeroboam, Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, Because that I have made thee high out of the midst of the people, and appoint thee leader over my people Israel,

Regresa con Jeroboán y dile: “Así ha dicho el Señor, el Dios de Israel: Yo te levanté de en medio del pueblo y te hice jefe de los israelitas.

8 a nd rend the kingdom from the house of David, and give it to thee, -- and thou hast not been as My servant David who kept My commands, and who walked after Me with all his heart, to do only that which right in Mine eyes,

Yo deshice el reino de la casa de David y te lo entregué, pero tú no te has conducido como mi siervo David, pues él obedeció mis mandamientos, me buscó con todo su corazón, y se esforzó por vivir con rectitud delante de mí.

9 a nd thou dost evil above all who have been before thee, and goest, and makest to thee other gods and molten images to provoke Me to anger, and Me thou hast cast behind thy back:

Pero tú has actuado peor que todos los que reinaron antes de ti; te has fabricado dioses ajenos y has fundido sus imágenes para hacerme enojar, y luego me volviste la espalda.

10 ` Therefore, lo, I am bringing in evil unto the house of Jeroboam, and have cut off to Jeroboam those sitting on the wall -- shut up and left -- in Israel, and have put away the posterity of the house of Jeroboam, as one putteth away the dung till its consumption;

Por eso yo haré que tu descendencia caiga en desgracia, y que muera todo varón que te nazca, lo mismo si es siervo que si es libre; barreré a tus descendientes como se barre el estiércol, hasta que no quede nada.

11 h im who dieth of Jeroboam in a city do the dogs eat, and him who dieth in a field do fowl of the heavens eat, for Jehovah hath spoken.

A cualquier descendiente de Jeroboán que muera en la ciudad, se lo comerán los perros, y al que muera en el campo se lo comerán las aves de rapiña. Así lo ha dicho el Señor.”

12 ` And thou, rise, go to thy house; in the going in of thy feet to the city -- hath the lad died;

»Y tú, mujer, regresa a tu casa, pero en cuanto pongas un pie en la ciudad tu hijo morirá.

13 a nd all Israel have mourned for him, and buried him, for this one -- by himself -- cometh of Jeroboam unto a grave, because there hath been found in him a good thing towards Jehovah, God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam.

Todo el pueblo de Israel llorará por tu hijo y lo sepultarán, porque de todos los hijos de Jeroboán él es el único que le agradó al Señor; por eso será sepultado.

14 ` And Jehovah hath raised up for Him a king over Israel who cutteth off the house of Jeroboam this day -- and what? -- even now!

El Señor va a elegir a un rey que exterminará a toda la descendencia de Jeroboán, y lo va a hacer ahora mismo.

15 A nd Jehovah hath smitten Israel as the reed is moved by the waters, and hath plucked Israel from off this good ground that He gave to their fathers, and scattered them beyond the River, because that they made their shrines, provoking Jehovah to anger;

El Señor sacudirá al pueblo de Israel como sacude el agua a los juncos, y lo arrancará de la buena tierra que dio a sus antepasados; luego, por haberse fabricado imágenes de Asera y por ofender así al Señor, los esparcirá más allá del río Éufrates.

16 a nd He giveth up Israel because of the sins of Jeroboam that he sinned, and that he caused Israel to sin.'

El Señor va a entregar a Israel por causa de los pecados de Jeroboán, pues hizo pecar a mi pueblo.»

17 A nd the wife of Jeroboam riseth, and goeth, and cometh to Tirzah; she hath come in to the threshold of the house, and the youth dieth;

Después de oír esto, la esposa de Jeroboán se marchó y se fue a Tirsa, y cuando entró en la ciudad su hijo murió.

18 a nd they bury him, and mourn for him do all Israel, according to the word of Jehovah, that he spake by the hand of His servant Ahijah the prophet.

Sepultaron al niño, y el pueblo lloró por él como el Señor le había dicho al profeta Ajías.

19 A nd the rest of the matters of Jeroboam, how he fought, and how he reigned, lo, they are written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel.

Todo los hechos de Jeroboán, y las guerras que libró, han quedado registradas en el libro de las historias de los reyes de Israel.

20 A nd the days that Jeroboam reigned twenty and two years, and he lieth with his fathers, and reign doth Nadab his son in his stead.

Jeroboán reinó veintidós años, y cuando fue a reunirse con sus antepasados, reinó en su lugar su hijo Nadab. Reinado de Roboán

21 A nd Rehoboam son of Solomon hath reigned in Judah; a son of forty and one years Rehoboam in his reigning, and seventeen years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, the city that Jehovah chose to set His name there, out of all the tribes of Israel, and the name of his mother Naamah the Ammonitess.

Roboán hijo de Salomón comenzó a reinar sobre Judá a los cuarenta y un años de edad, y reinó diecisiete años en Jerusalén, la ciudad que el Señor eligió de entre todas las tribus de Israel para que allí estuviera su nombre. La madre de Roboán se llamaba Noamá, y era amonita.

22 A nd Judah doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and they make Him zealous above all that their fathers did by their sins that they have sinned.

Y el pueblo de Judá hizo lo malo a los ojos del Señor, y le hicieron enojar más que sus antepasados, a pesar de que éstos cometieron muchos pecados.

23 A nd they build -- also they -- for themselves high places, and standing-pillars, and shrines, on every high height, and under every green tree;

También construyeron altares en los montes y bajo los árboles frondosos; hicieron estatuas e imágenes de la diosa Asera;

24 a nd also a whoremonger hath been in the land; they have done according to all the abominations of the nations that Jehovah dispossessed from the presence of the sons of Israel.

practicaron actos repugnantes, como la prostitución masculina, que era una costumbre de los pueblos que el Señor había arrojado del territorio ocupado por los israelitas.

25 A nd it cometh to pass, in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, gone up hath Shishak king of Egypt against Jerusalem,

Cuando Roboán llevaba cinco años en el trono, llegó Sisac, rey de Egipto, y atacó Jerusalén

26 a nd he taketh the treasures of the house of Jehovah, and the treasures of the house of the king, yea, the whole he hath taken; and he taketh all the shields of gold that Solomon made.

y se adueñó de los tesoros del templo del Señor y del palacio real. Fue un saqueo total, que incluyó los escudos de oro que Salomón había mandado hacer.

27 A nd king Rehoboam maketh in their stead shields of brass, and hath made a charge on the hand of the heads of the runners, those keeping the opening of the house of the king,

Para reponerlos, Roboán mandó hacer escudos de bronce y los puso al cuidado de los oficiales que vigilaban la entrada del palacio real.

28 a nd it cometh to pass, from the going in of the king to the house of Jehovah, the runners bear them, and have brought them back unto the chamber of the runners.

Cuando el rey entraba en el templo del Señor, los guardias se llevaban los escudos y los ponían en la sala de la guardia.

29 A nd the rest of the matters of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Judah?

Todos los hechos de Roboán se hallan registrados en las crónicas de los reyes de Judá.

30 A nd war hath been between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days;

Y entre Roboán y Jeroboán hubo siempre constantes guerras.

31 a nd Rehoboam lieth with his fathers, and is buried with his fathers, in the city of David, and the name of his mother Naamah the Ammonitess, and reign doth Abijam his son in his stead.

Cuando Roboán murió y fue a reunirse con sus antepasados, fue sepultado junto a ellos en la ciudad de David. Noamá, la amonita, fue madre de Roboán. A la muerte del rey, reinó en su lugar su hijo Abías.
