1 A nd it came to pass, on the second-first sabbath, as he is going through the corn fields, that his disciples were plucking the ears, and were eating, rubbing with the hands,

En cierto día de reposo, al pasar Jesús por los sembrados, sus discípulos iban arrancando espigas y desgranándolas con las manos, para comerse el grano.

2 a nd certain of the Pharisees said to them, `Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the sabbaths?'

Algunos de los fariseos les dijeron: «¿Por qué hacen lo que no está permitido hacer en los días de reposo?»

3 A nd Jesus answering said unto them, `Did ye not read even this that David did, when he hungered, himself and those who are with him,

Jesús les respondió: «¿Ni siquiera han leído lo que hizo David, cuando él y sus acompañantes tuvieron hambre?

4 h ow he went into the house of God, and the loaves of the presentation did take, and did eat, and gave also to those with him, which it is not lawful to eat, except only to the priests?'

Pues entró en la casa de Dios y tomó los panes de la proposición, que sólo a los sacerdotes les es permitido comer. Y comió David, y los compartió con sus acompañantes.»

5 a nd he said to them, -- `The Son of Man is lord also of the sabbath.'

Y añadió: «El Hijo del Hombre es también Señor del día de reposo.» El hombre de la mano atrofiada

6 A nd it came to pass also, on another sabbath, that he goeth into the synagogue, and teacheth, and there was there a man, and his right hand was withered,

Otro día de reposo, Jesús entró en la sinagoga y comenzó a enseñar. Había allí un hombre que tenía la mano derecha atrofiada,

7 a nd the scribes and the Pharisees were watching him, if on the sabbath he will heal, that they might find an accusation against him.

y los escribas y los fariseos, que buscaban un motivo para acusar a Jesús, lo observaban para ver si en el día de reposo sanaba a aquel hombre.

8 A nd he himself had known their reasonings, and said to the man having the withered hand, `Rise, and stand in the midst;' and he having risen, stood.

Pero Jesús, que sabía lo que pensaban, dijo al hombre que tenía la mano atrofiada: «Levántate, y ponte en medio.» El hombre se puso de pie,

9 T hen said Jesus unto them, `I will question you something: Is it lawful on the sabbaths to do good, or to do evil? life to save or to kill?'

y Jesús dijo: «Voy a preguntarles algo. ¿Qué está permitido hacer en los días de reposo? ¿El bien, o el mal? ¿Salvar una vida, o quitar la vida?»

10 A nd having looked round on them all, he said to the man, `Stretch forth thy hand;' and he did so, and his hand was restored whole as the other;

Miró entonces a todos los que estaban alrededor, y dijo al hombre: «Extiende tu mano.» Aquel hombre lo hizo así, y su mano quedó sana.

11 a nd they were filled with madness, and were speaking with one another what they might do to Jesus.

Los escribas y los fariseos se pusieron furiosos y comenzaron a discutir qué podrían hacer contra Jesús. Elección de los doce apóstoles

12 A nd it came to pass in those days, he went forth to the mountain to pray, and was passing the night in the prayer of God,

Por esos días Jesús fue al monte a orar, y pasó la noche orando a Dios.

13 a nd when it became day, he called near his disciples, and having chosen from them twelve, whom also he named apostles,

Al llegar el día, llamó a sus discípulos y escogió a doce de ellos, a los cuales también llamó apóstoles, a saber:

14 ( Simon, whom also he named Peter, and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,

Simón, a quien llamó Pedro; su hermano Andrés, Jacobo, Juan, Felipe, Bartolomé,

15 M atthew and Thomas, James of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes,

Mateo, Tomás, Jacobo hijo de Alfeo, Simón, conocido como el Zelote,

16 J udas of James, and Judas Iscariot, who also became betrayer;)

Judas hijo de Jacobo, y Judas Iscariote, que llegó a ser el traidor. Jesús atiende a una multitud

17 a nd having come down with them, he stood upon a level spot, and a crowd of his disciples, and a great multitude of the people from all Judea, and Jerusalem, and the maritime Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear him, and to be healed of their sicknesses,

Jesús descendió con ellos y se detuvo en un llano, en compañía de sus discípulos y de una gran multitud de toda Judea, de Jerusalén y de la costa de Tiro y Sidón. Habían venido a escucharlo y a ser sanados de sus enfermedades.

18 a nd those harassed by unclean spirits, and they were healed,

También eran sanados los que eran atormentados por espíritus impuros.

19 a nd all the multitude were seeking to touch him, because power from him was going forth, and he was healing all.

Toda la gente procuraba tocarlo, porque de él salía un poder que sanaba a todos. Bienaventuranzas y ayes

20 A nd he, having lifted up his eyes to his disciples, said: `Happy the poor -- because yours is the reign of God.

Jesús miró a sus discípulos y les dijo: «Bienaventurados ustedes los pobres, porque el reino de Dios les pertenece.

21 ` Happy those hungering now -- because ye shall be filled. `Happy those weeping now -- because ye shall laugh.

»Bienaventurados ustedes los que ahora tienen hambre, porque serán saciados. Bienaventurados ustedes los que ahora lloran, porque reirán.

22 ` Happy are ye when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you, and shall reproach, and shall cast forth your name as evil, for the Son of Man's sake --

»Bienaventurados serán ustedes cuando, por causa del Hijo del Hombre, la gente los odie, los segregue, los vitupere, y menosprecie su nombre como algo malo.

23 r ejoice in that day, and leap, for lo, your reward great in the heaven, for according to these things were their fathers doing to the prophets.

Cuando llegue ese día, alégrense y llénense de gozo, porque grande será el galardón que recibirán en los cielos. ¡Eso mismo hicieron con los profetas los antepasados de esta gente!

24 ` But wo to you -- the rich, because ye have got your comfort.

»Pero ¡ay de ustedes los ricos!, porque ya han recibido su consuelo.

25 ` Wo to you who have been filled -- because ye shall hunger. `Wo to you who are laughing now -- because ye shall mourn and weep.

»¡Ay de ustedes, los que ahora están satisfechos!, porque habrán de pasar hambre. »¡Ay de ustedes, los que ahora ríen!, porque habrán de llorar y de lamentarse.

26 ` Wo to you when all men shall speak well of you -- for according to these things were their fathers doing to false prophets.

»¡Ay de ustedes, cuando todos los alaben!, porque lo mismo hacían con los falsos profetas los antepasados de esta gente. El amor hacia los enemigos

27 ` But I say to you who are hearing, Love your enemies, do good to those hating you,

»A ustedes, los que me escuchan, les digo: Amen a sus enemigos, hagan bien a quienes los odian,

28 b less those cursing you, and pray for those accusing you falsely;

bendigan a quienes los maldicen, y oren por quienes los calumnian.

29 a nd to him smiting thee upon the cheek, give also the other, and from him taking away from thee the mantle, also the coat thou mayest not keep back.

Si alguno te golpea en una mejilla, preséntale también la otra. Si alguien te quita la capa, deja que se lleve también la túnica.

30 ` And to every one who is asking of thee, be giving; and from him who is taking away thy goods, be not asking again;

A todo el que te pida, dale; y a quien se lleve lo que es tuyo, no le pidas que te lo devuelva. La regla de oro

31 a nd as ye wish that men may do to you, do ye also to them in like manner;

»Traten a los demás como ustedes quieran ser tratados.

32 a nd -- if ye love those loving you, what grace have ye? for also the sinful love those loving them;

Porque si ustedes aman sólo a quienes los aman, ¿qué mérito tienen? ¡Hasta los pecadores aman a quienes los aman!

33 a nd if ye do good to those doing good to you, what grace have ye? for also the sinful do the same;

Y si ustedes tratan bien sólo a quienes los tratan bien a ustedes, ¿qué mérito tienen? ¡Hasta los pecadores hacen lo mismo!

34 a nd if ye lend of whom ye hope to receive back, what grace have ye? for also the sinful lend to sinners -- that they may receive again as much.

Si prestan algo a aquellos de quienes ustedes esperan recibir algo, ¿qué mérito tienen? ¡Hasta los pecadores se prestan unos a otros para recibir otro tanto!

35 ` But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again, and your reward will be great, and ye shall be sons of the Highest, because He is kind unto the ungracious and evil;

Ustedes deben amar a sus enemigos, hacer el bien y dar prestado, sin esperar nada a cambio. Grande será entonces el galardón que recibirán, y serán hijos del Altísimo. Porque él es benigno con los ingratos y con los malvados.

36 b e ye therefore merciful, as also your Father is merciful.

Por lo tanto, sean compasivos, como también su Padre es compasivo. El juzgar a los demás

37 ` And judge not, and ye may not be judged; condemn not, and ye may not be condemned; release, and ye shall be released.

»No juzguen, y no serán juzgados. No condenen, y no serán condenados. Perdonen, y serán perdonados.

38 ` Give, and it shall be given to you; good measure, pressed, and shaken, and running over, they shall give into your bosom; for with that measure with which ye measure, it shall be measured to you again.'

Den, y se les dará una medida buena, incluso apretada, remecida y desbordante. Porque con la misma medida con que ustedes midan, serán medidos.»

39 A nd he spake a simile to them, `Is blind able to lead blind? shall they not both fall into a pit?

Les dijo también una parábola: «¿Acaso un ciego puede guiar a otro ciego? ¿Acaso no se caerán los dos en algún hoyo?

40 A disciple is not above his teacher, but every one perfected shall be as his teacher.

El discípulo no es superior a su maestro, pero el que complete su aprendizaje será como su maestro.

41 ` And why dost thou behold the mote that is in thy brother's eye, and the beam that in thine own eye dost not consider?

¿Por qué miras la paja que está en el ojo de tu hermano, y no miras la viga que está en tu propio ojo?

42 o r how art thou able to say to thy brother, Brother, suffer, I may take out the mote that in thine eye -- thyself the beam in thine own eye not beholding? Hypocrite, take first the beam out of thine own eye, and then thou shalt see clearly to take out the mote that in thy brother's eye.

¿Cómo puedes decirle a tu hermano: “Hermano, déjame sacarte la paja que tienes en tu ojo”, si no ves la viga que tienes en tu propio ojo? ¡Hipócrita! Saca primero la viga de tu propio ojo, y entonces podrás ver bien para sacar la paja que está en el ojo de tu hermano. Por sus frutos serán conocidos

43 ` For there is not a good tree making bad fruit, nor a bad tree making good fruit;

»Ningún árbol bueno produce frutos malos, ni tampoco un árbol malo produce frutos buenos.

44 f or each tree from its own fruit is known, for not from thorns do they gather figs, nor from a bramble do they crop a grape.

Porque cada árbol se conoce por su fruto. No se cortan higos de los espinos, ni se vendimian uvas de las zarzas.

45 ` The good man out of the good treasure of his heart doth bring forth that which good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart doth bring forth that which evil; for out of the abounding of the heart doth his mouth speak.

El hombre bueno, saca lo bueno del buen tesoro de su corazón. El hombre malo, saca lo malo del mal tesoro de su corazón; porque de la abundancia del corazón habla la boca. Los dos cimientos

46 ` And why do ye call me, Lord, Lord, and do not what I say?

»¿Por qué me llaman ustedes “Señor, Señor”, y no hacen lo que les mando hacer?

47 E very one who is coming unto me, and is hearing my words, and is doing them, I will shew you to whom he is like;

Les voy a decir como quién es el que viene a mí, y oye mis palabras y las pone en práctica:

48 h e is like to a man building a house, who did dig, and deepen, and laid a foundation upon the rock, and a flood having come, the stream broke forth on that house, and was not able to shake it, for it had been founded upon the rock.

Es como quien, al construir una casa, cava hondo y pone los cimientos sobre la roca. En caso de una inundación, si el río golpea con ímpetu la casa, no logra sacudirla porque está asentada sobre la roca.

49 ` And he who heard and did not, is like to a man having builded a house upon the earth, without a foundation, against which the stream brake forth, and immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house became great.'

Pero el que oye mis palabras y no las pone en práctica, es como quien construye su casa sobre el suelo y no le pone cimientos. Si el río golpea con ímpetu la casa, la derrumba y la deja completamente en ruinas.»
