1 A nd the life of Sarah is a hundred and twenty and seven years -- years of the life of Sarah;

Sara llegó a vivir ciento veintisiete años,

2 a nd Sarah dieth in Kirjath-Arba, which Hebron, in the land of Caanan, and Abraham goeth in to mourn for Sarah, and to bewail her.

y murió Sara en Quiriat Arbá, que es Hebrón, en la tierra de Canaán. Abrahán fue a llorar por Sara y a hacer duelo por ella.

3 A nd Abraham riseth up from the presence of his dead, and speaketh unto the sons of Heth, saying,

Cuando Abrahán dejó de llorar a su muerta, fue a hablar con los hititas; les dijo:

4 ` A sojourner and a settler I with you; give to me a possession of a burying-place with you, and I bury my dead from before me.'

«Yo soy entre ustedes un extranjero, un forastero. Pero denme entre ustedes una propiedad para sepultura, y sepultaré allí a mi muerta.»

5 A nd the sons of Heth answer Abraham, saying to him,

Los hititas le respondieron a Abrahán:

6 ` Hear us, my lord; a prince of God thou in our midst; in the choice of our burying-places bury thy dead: none of us his burying-place doth withhold from thee, from burying thy dead.'

«Señor nuestro, escúchanos: para nosotros tú eres un príncipe de Dios; sepulta a tu muerta en el mejor de nuestros sepulcros. Ninguno de nosotros te negará su sepulcro, ni te impedirá que entierres a tu muerta.»

7 A nd Abraham riseth and boweth himself to the people of the land, to the sons of Heth,

Abrahán se puso de pie, e inclinándose ante los hititas, el pueblo de aquella tierra,

8 a nd he speaketh with them, saying, `If it is your desire to bury my dead from before me, hear me, and meet for me with Ephron, son of Zoar;

les dijo: «Si es la voluntad de ustedes que yo sepulte a mi muerta, préstenme atención e intercedan por mí ante Efrón hijo de Sojar,

9 a nd he giveth to me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which in the extremity of his field; for full money doth he give it to me, in your midst, for a possession of a burying-place.'

para que me dé la cueva de Macpela, la que tiene en los límites de su heredad. Pídanle que me la ceda por su justo precio, para que yo tenga entre ustedes una sepultura.»

10 A nd Ephron is sitting in the midst of the sons of Heth, and Ephron the Hittite answereth Abraham in the ears of the sons of Heth, of all those entering the gate of his city, saying,

Este Efrón estaba allí, entre los hititas, pues allí vivía, así que en presencia de los hititas y de todos los que entraban por la puerta de su ciudad le respondió a Abrahán. Le dijo:

11 ` Nay, my lord, hear me: the field I have given to thee, and the cave that in it, to thee I have given it; before the eyes of the sons of my people I have given it to thee -- bury thy dead.'

«No, señor mío, escúchame: yo te cedo la heredad, y te cedo también la cueva que está en ella; te la cedo en presencia de los hijos de mi pueblo. Sepulta a tu muerta.»

12 A nd Abraham boweth himself before the people of the land,

Entonces Abrahán se inclinó ante el pueblo de la tierra,

13 a nd speaketh unto Ephron in the ears of the people of the land, saying, `Only -- if thou wouldst hear me -- I have given the money of the field -- accept from me, and I bury my dead there.'

y en presencia del pueblo de la tierra le respondió a Efrón. Le dijo: «Más bien, si te parece, te ruego que me escuches. Yo mismo te daré el precio de la heredad, y entonces sepultaré allí a mi muerta.»

14 A nd Ephron answereth Abraham, saying to him,

Pero Efrón le respondió a Abrahán, y le dijo:

15 ` My lord, hear me: the land -- four hundred shekels of silver; between me and thee, what it? -- thy dead bury.'

«Señor mío, escúchame: la tierra vale cuatrocientas monedas de plata; ¿qué es esa cantidad entre tú y yo? Ve y entierra a tu muerta.»

16 A nd Abraham hearkeneth unto Ephron, and Abraham weigheth to Ephron the silver which he hath spoken of in the ears of the sons of Heth, four hundred silver shekels, passing with the merchant.

Y Abrahán aceptó el precio fijado por Efrón, y ante los hititas como testigos le entregó a Efrón la cantidad establecida, es decir, cuatrocientas monedas, de buena ley entre mercaderes.

17 A nd established are the field of Ephron, which in Machpelah, which before Mamre, the field and the cave which in it, and all the trees which in the field, which in all its border round about,

Así fue como la heredad que Efrón tenía en Macpela, al oriente de Mamre, es decir, la heredad con la cueva que estaba en ella, más todos los árboles que había en la heredad y en todos sus contornos, quedó

18 t o Abraham by purchase, before the eyes of the sons of Heth, among all entering the gate of his city.

como propiedad de Abrahán, teniendo como testigos a los hititas y a todos los que entraban por la puerta de la ciudad.

19 A nd after this hath Abraham buried Sarah his wife at the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre (which Hebron), in the land of Canaan;

Después de esto Abrahán sepultó a Sara, su mujer, en la cueva de la heredad de Macpela, al oriente de Mamre, que es Hebrón, en la tierra de Canaán.

20 a nd established are the field, and the cave which in it, to Abraham for a possession of a burying-place, from the sons of Heth.

Y la heredad y la cueva que en ella había quedó como una posesión de Abrahán para sepultura, cedida por los hititas.
