1 A nd it cometh to pass after these things that God hath tried Abraham, and saith unto him, `Abraham;' and he saith, `Here I.'

Después de esto, sucedió que Dios puso a prueba a Abrahán, y lo llamó: «¡Abrahán!» Y él respondió: «¡Aquí estoy!»

2 A nd He saith, `Take, I pray thee, thy son, thine only one, whom thou hast loved, even Isaac, and go for thyself unto the land of Moriah, and cause him to ascend there for a burnt-offering on one of the mountains of which I speak unto thee.'

Y Dios le dijo: «Toma ahora a Isaac, tu único hijo, al que tanto amas, y vete a la tierra de Moriah. Allí me lo ofrecerás en holocausto, sobre uno de los montes que yo te diré.»

3 A nd Abraham riseth early in the morning, and saddleth his ass, and taketh two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and he cleaveth the wood of the burnt-offering, and riseth and goeth unto the place of which God hath spoken to him.

Al día siguiente, Abrahán se levantó, le puso la albarda a su asno, y se llevó consigo a dos de sus siervos y a su hijo Isaac. Cortó leña para el holocausto, y se dispuso a ir al lugar que Dios le dijo.

4 O n the third day -- Abraham lifteth up his eyes, and seeth the place from afar;

Tres días después, Abrahán levantó los ojos y a lo lejos vio el lugar.

5 a nd Abraham saith unto his young men, `Remain by yourselves here with the ass, and I and the youth go yonder and worship, and turn back unto you.'

Entonces Abrahán dijo a sus siervos: «Esperen aquí, con el asno, y el niño y yo iremos hasta ese lugar; allí adoraremos, y luego volveremos aquí mismo.»

6 A nd Abraham taketh the wood of the burnt-offering, and placeth on Isaac his son, and he taketh in his hand the fire, and the knife; and they go on both of them together.

Y tomó Abrahán la leña del holocausto, y la echó sobre Isaac, su hijo; luego, tomó en su mano el fuego y el cuchillo, y juntos siguieron caminando.

7 A nd Isaac speaketh unto Abraham his father, and saith, `My father,' and he saith, `Here I, my son.' And he saith, `Lo, the fire and the wood, and where the lamb for a burnt-offering?'

Entonces Isaac le habló a Abrahán, su padre, y le dijo: «Padre mío...» Y él respondió: «Aquí estoy, hijo mío.» Isaac dijo: «Aquí están el fuego y la leña, pero ¿dónde está el cordero para el holocausto?»

8 a nd Abraham saith, `God doth provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt-offering, my son;' and they go on both of them together.

Y Abrahán respondió: «Dios proveerá el cordero para el holocausto, hijo mío.» Y juntos siguieron caminando.

9 A nd they come in unto the place of which God hath spoken to him, and there Abraham buildeth the altar, and arrangeth the wood, and bindeth Isaac his son, and placeth him upon the altar above the wood;

Cuando llegaron al lugar que Dios le había dicho, Abrahán edificó allí un altar, luego acomodó la leña, y atando a Isaac su hijo lo puso en el altar, sobre la leña.

10 a nd Abraham putteth forth his hand, and taketh the knife -- to slaughter his son.

Entonces extendió Abrahán su mano y tomó el cuchillo para degollar a su hijo.

11 A nd the messenger of Jehovah calleth unto him from the heavens, and saith, `Abraham, Abraham;' and he saith, `Here I;'

Pero el ángel del Señor lo llamó desde el cielo, y le dijo: «¡Abrahán, Abrahán!» Y él respondió: «¡Aquí estoy!»

12 a nd He saith, `Put not forth thine hand unto the youth, nor do anything to him, for now I have known that thou art fearing God, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only one, from Me.'

Y el ángel dijo: «No extiendas tu mano sobre el niño, ni le hagas nada. Yo sé bien que temes a Dios, pues no me has negado a tu único hijo.»

13 A nd Abraham lifteth up his eyes, and looketh, and lo, a ram behind, seized in a thicket by its horns; and Abraham goeth, and taketh the ram, and causeth it to ascend for a burnt-offering instead of his son;

Abrahán levantó entonces los ojos, y vio que a sus espaldas había un carnero, trabado por los cuernos en un zarzal. Y Abrahán fue y tomó el carnero, y lo ofreció en holocausto en lugar de su hijo.

14 a nd Abraham calleth the name of that place `Jehovah-Jireh,' because it is said this day in the mount, `Jehovah doth provide.'

A ese lugar Abrahán le puso por nombre «El Señor proveerá.» Por eso es que aún hoy se dice: «En un monte el Señor proveerá.»

15 A nd the messenger of Jehovah calleth unto Abraham a second time from the heavens,

Por segunda vez, el ángel del Señor llamó a Abrahán desde el cielo

16 a nd saith, `By Myself I have sworn -- the affirmation of Jehovah -- that because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only one --

y le dijo: «Yo, el Señor, he jurado por mí mismo que, por esto que has hecho, de no negarme a tu único hijo,

17 t hat blessing I bless thee, and multiplying I multiply thy seed as stars of the heavens, and as sand which on the sea-shore; and thy seed doth possess the gate of his enemies;

ciertamente te bendeciré; multiplicaré tu descendencia como las estrellas del cielo y como la arena que hay a la orilla del mar; ¡tu descendencia conquistará las ciudades de sus enemigos!

18 a nd blessed themselves in thy seed have all nations of the earth, because that thou hast hearkened to My voice.'

En tu simiente serán bendecidas todas las naciones de la tierra, por cuanto atendiste a mi voz.»

19 A nd Abraham turneth back unto his young men, and they rise and go together unto Beer-Sheba; and Abraham dwelleth in Beer-Sheba.

Y Abrahán volvió a donde estaban sus siervos, y juntos se levantaron de allí y se fueron a Berseba. Allí en Berseba Abrahán se quedó a vivir.

20 A nd it cometh to pass after these things that it is declared to Abraham, saying, `Lo, Milcah hath borne, even she, sons to Nahor thy brother:

Después de todo esto, le fueron a dar esta noticia a Abrahán: «¡Fíjate que también Milca le ha dado hijos a tu hermano Najor!»

21 H uz his first-born, and Buz his brother; and Kemuel father of Aram,

Su primogénito fue Uz; luego nació su hermano Buz, y luego Kemuel, padre de Aram;

22 a nd Chesed, and Hazo, and Pildash, and Jidlaph, and Bethuel;

Quesed, Jazó, Pildas, Yidlaf y Betuel.

23 a nd Bethuel hath begotten Rebekah;' these eight hath Milcah borne to Nahor, Abraham's brother;

Este Betuel fue el padre de Rebeca. Éstos son los ocho hijos que tuvo Milca de Najor, el hermano de Abrahán.

24 a nd his concubine, whose name Reumah, she also hath borne Tebah, and Gaham, and Tahash, and Maachah.

También su concubina, que se llamaba Reúma, dio a luz a Teba, Gaján, Tajás y Macá.
