1 A nd Joseph falleth on his father's face, and weepeth over him, and kisseth him;

Entonces José se echó sobre el rostro de su padre, y lloró sobre su cuerpo y lo besó.

2 a nd Joseph commandeth his servants, the physicians, to embalm his father, and the physicians embalm Israel;

Luego mandó a sus siervos los médicos que embalsamaran a su padre, y ellos embalsamaron a Israel.

3 a nd they fulfil for him forty days, for so they fulfil the days of the embalmed, and the Egyptians weep for him seventy days.

Y le guardaron luto cuarenta días, porque ése era el término de luto para los embalsamados, pero los egipcios lo lloraron setenta días.

4 A nd the days of his weeping pass away, and Joseph speaketh unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, `If, I pray you, I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,

Al término de los días de su luto, José habló con los de la casa del faraón, y les dijo: «Si soy digno de pedirles un favor, les ruego que hablen con el faraón en mi favor. Díganle de mi parte:

5 M y father caused me to swear, saying, Lo, I am dying; in my burying-place which I have prepared for myself in the land of Canaan, there dost thou bury me; and now, let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and return;'

“Mi padre me hizo hacerle este juramento: ‘Como ves, ya estoy por morirme. Quiero que me sepultes en el sepulcro que cavé para mí en la tierra de Canaán.’ Así que, permíteme ir a sepultar a mi padre. Luego volveré.”»

6 a nd Pharaoh saith, `Go up and bury thy father, as he caused thee to swear.'

Y el faraón dijo: «Ve y sepulta a tu padre, conforme al juramento que le hiciste.»

7 A nd Joseph goeth up to bury his father, and go up with him do all the servants of Pharaoh, elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,

José fue a sepultar a su padre, y lo acompañaron todos los siervos del faraón y los ancianos de su casa, todos los ancianos de la tierra de Egipto,

8 a nd all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and the house of his father; only their infants, and their flock, and their herd, have they left in the land of Goshen;

toda la casa de José, y sus hermanos, y la casa de su padre. En la tierra de Gosén se quedaron solamente sus niños, y sus ovejas y sus vacas.

9 a nd there go up with him both chariot and horsemen, and the camp is very great.

También lo acompañaron carros y gente de caballería. La comitiva era muy grande.

10 A nd they come unto the threshing-floor of Atad, which beyond the Jordan, and they lament there, a lamentation great and very grievous; and he maketh for his father a mourning seven days,

Cuando llegaron al campo de Atad, que está al otro lado del Jordán, sus lamentos y expresiones de tristeza fueron muy grandes. José, por su parte, hizo duelo por su padre durante siete días.

11 a nd the inhabitant of the land, the Canaanite, see the mourning in the threshing-floor of Atad, and say, `A grievous mourning this to the Egyptians;' therefore hath called its name `The mourning of the Egyptians,' which beyond the Jordan.

Al ver los cananeos, que habitaban esa región, el llanto que había en el campo de Atad, dijeron: «Grande es el llanto de los egipcios.» Por eso aquel lugar recibió el nombre de «Abel Mizrayin». Este lugar está al otro lado del Jordán.

12 A nd his sons do to him so as he commanded them,

Los hijos de Israel hicieron con él todo lo que él les había ordenado:

13 a nd his sons bear him away to the land of Canaan, and bury him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field for a possession of a burying-place, from Ephron the Hittite, on the front of Mamre.

lo llevaron a la tierra de Canaán y lo sepultaron en la cueva del campo de Macpela, al oriente de Mamre, la cual Abrahán le compró a Efrón el hitita, junto con el campo mismo, para que fuera sepultura hereditaria.

14 A nd Joseph turneth back to Egypt, he and his brethren, and all who are going up with him to bury his father, after his burying his father.

Después de sepultar a su padre, José volvió a Egipto, junto con sus hermanos y con todos los que lo acompañaron. Muerte de José

15 A nd the brethren of Joseph see that their father is dead, and say, `Peradventure Joseph doth hate us, and doth certainly return to us all the evil which we did with him.'

Al ver los hermanos de José que su padre había muerto, dijeron: «Tal vez José nos odia, y ahora se vengará de todo el mal que le hicimos.»

16 A nd they give a charge for Joseph, saying, `Thy father commanded before his death, saying,

Entonces mandaron a decirle: «José, antes de que tu padre muriera, nos pidió

17 T hus ye do say to Joseph, I pray thee, bear, I pray thee, with the transgression of thy brethren, and their sin, for they have done thee evil; and now, bear, we pray thee, with the transgression of the servants of the God of thy father;' and Joseph weepeth in their speaking unto him.

que te dijéramos de su parte: “Te ruego que perdones la maldad y el pecado de tus hermanos, pues te trataron muy mal.” Por lo tanto, te rogamos que perdones ahora la maldad de estos siervos del Dios de tu padre.» Y mientras ellos hablaban, José comenzó a llorar.

18 A nd his brethren also go and fall before him, and say, `Lo, we to thee for servants.'

Además, sus hermanos fueron y se arrodillaron delante de él, y le dijeron: «Aquí nos tienes. Somos tus siervos.»

19 A nd Joseph saith unto them, `Fear not, for I in the place of God?

Pero José les respondió: «No tengan miedo. ¿Acaso estoy en lugar de Dios?

20 A s for you, ye devised against me evil -- God devised it for good, in order to do as this day, to keep alive a numerous people;

Ustedes pensaron hacerme mal, pero Dios cambió todo para bien, para hacer lo que hoy vemos, que es darle vida a mucha gente.

21 a nd now, fear not: I do nourish you and your infants;' and he comforteth them, and speaketh unto their heart.

Así que no tengan miedo. Yo les daré de comer a ustedes y a sus hijos.» Y los consoló, pues les habló con mucho cariño.

22 A nd Joseph dwelleth in Egypt, he and the house of his father, and Joseph liveth a hundred and ten years,

Y José vivió en Egipto, junto con la familia de su padre, y llegó a la edad de ciento diez años.

23 a nd Joseph looketh on Ephraim's sons of the third; sons also of Machir, son of Manasseh, have been born on the knees of Joseph.

Llegó a ver a los hijos de Efraín hasta la tercera generación. También los hijos de Maquir, hijo de Manasés, fueron criados sobre las rodillas de José.

24 A nd Joseph saith unto his brethren, `I am dying, and God doth certainly inspect you, and hath caused you to go up from this land, unto the land which He hath sworn to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.'

Un día, José les dijo a sus hermanos: «Ya estoy por morir. Pero Dios vendrá a visitarlos, y los sacará de esta tierra para llevarlos a la tierra que prometió dar a Abrahán, Isaac y Jacob.»

25 A nd Joseph causeth the sons of Israel to swear, saying, `God doth certainly inspect you, and ye have brought up my bones from this.'

Y José hizo que los hijos de Israel le juraran, al decirles: «Dios vendrá a visitarlos. Cuando eso sea, ustedes se llevarán de aquí mis huesos.»

26 A nd Joseph dieth, a son of an hundred and ten years, and they embalm him, and he is put into a coffin in Egypt.

José murió a la edad de ciento diez años, y fue embalsamado y puesto en un ataúd en Egipto.
