1 A nd again he entered into Capernaum, after days, and it was heard that he is in the house,

Algunos días después, Jesús volvió a Cafarnaún. En cuanto se supo que estaba en la casa,

2 a nd immediately many were gathered together, so that there was no more room, not even at the door, and he was speaking to them the word.

se juntó mucha gente, de manera que ya no cabían ni aun a la puerta, mientras él les predicaba la palabra.

3 A nd they come unto him, bringing a paralytic, borne by four,

Llegaron entonces cuatro hombres que cargaban a un paralítico.

4 a nd not being able to come near to him because of the multitude, they uncovered the roof where he was, and, having broken up, they let down the couch on which the paralytic was lying,

Como no podían acercarse a Jesús por causa de la multitud, quitaron parte del techo donde estaba Jesús, hicieron una abertura, y por ahí bajaron la camilla en la que estaba acostado el paralítico.

5 a nd Jesus having seen their faith, saith to the paralytic, `Child, thy sins have been forgiven thee.'

Cuando Jesús vio la fe de ellos, le dijo al paralítico: «Hijo, los pecados te son perdonados.»

6 A nd there were certain of the scribes there sitting, and reasoning in their hearts,

Algunos de los escribas que estaban allí sentados, se decían a sí mismos:

7 ` Why doth this one thus speak evil words? who is able to forgive sins except one -- God?'

«¿Qué es lo que dice éste? ¡Está blasfemando! ¿Quién puede perdonar pecados? ¡Nadie sino Dios!»

8 A nd immediately Jesus, having known in his spirit that they thus reason in themselves, said to them, `Why these things reason ye in your hearts?

Enseguida Jesús se dio cuenta de lo que estaban pensando, así que les preguntó: «¿Qué es lo que cavilan en su corazón?

9 w hich is easier, to say to the paralytic, The sins have been forgiven to thee? or to say, Rise, and take up thy couch, and walk?

¿Qué es más fácil? ¿Que le diga al paralítico: “Tus pecados te son perdonados”, o que le diga: “Levántate, toma tu camilla y anda”?

10 ` And, that ye may know that the Son of Man hath authority on the earth to forgive sins -- (he saith to the paralytic) --

Pues para que ustedes sepan que el Hijo del Hombre tiene autoridad en la tierra para perdonar pecados, éste le dice al paralítico:

11 I say to thee, Rise, and take up thy couch, and go away to thy house;'

“Levántate, toma tu camilla, y vete a tu casa.”»

12 a nd he rose immediately, and having taken up the couch, he went forth before all, so that all were astonished, and do glorify God, saying -- `Never thus did we see.'

Enseguida el paralítico se levantó, tomó su camilla y salió delante de todos, que se quedaron asombrados y glorificando a Dios, al tiempo que decían: «¡Nunca hemos visto nada parecido!» Llamamiento de Leví

13 A nd he went forth again by the sea, and all the multitude was coming unto him, and he was teaching them,

Después Jesús volvió a la orilla del lago. Y toda la gente se le acercaba, y él les enseñaba.

14 a nd passing by, he saw Levi of Alpheus sitting at the tax-office, and saith to him, `Be following me,' and he, having risen, did follow him.

De paso vio a Leví hijo de Alfeo, que estaba sentado donde se cobraban los impuestos, y le dijo: «Sígueme». Y Leví se levantó y lo siguió.

15 A nd it came to pass, in his reclining (at meat) in his house, that many tax-gatherers and sinners were reclining (at meat) with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many, and they followed him.

Y sucedió que mientras Jesús estaba sentado a la mesa, en la casa de Leví, también muchos cobradores de impuestos y pecadores se sentaron a la mesa con Jesús y sus discípulos, pues ya eran muchos los que lo seguían.

16 A nd the scribes and the Pharisees, having seen him eating with the tax-gatherers and sinners, said to his disciples, `Why -- that with the tax-gatherers and sinners he doth eat and drink?'

Cuando los escribas y los fariseos lo vieron comer con cobradores de impuestos y con pecadores, les preguntaron a los discípulos: «¿Cómo? ¿Éste come y bebe con cobradores de impuestos y con pecadores?»

17 A nd Jesus, having heard, saith to them, `They who are strong have no need of a physician, but they who are ill; I came not to call righteous men, but sinners to reformation.'

Jesús los oyó, y les dijo: «No son los sanos los que necesitan de un médico, sino los enfermos. Y yo no he venido a llamar a los justos, sino a los pecadores.» La pregunta sobre el ayuno

18 A nd the disciples of John and those of the Pharisees were fasting, and they come and say to him, `Wherefore do the disciples of John and those of the Pharisees fast, and thy disciples do not fast?'

Los discípulos de Juan y los fariseos estaban ayunando, así que algunos fueron a preguntarle: «¿Por qué los discípulos de Juan y de los fariseos ayunan, y tus discípulos no?»

19 A nd Jesus said to them, `Are the sons of the bride-chamber able, while the bridegroom is with them, to fast? so long time as they have the bridegroom with them they are not able to fast;

Jesús les dijo: «¿Acaso pueden ayunar los invitados a una boda, mientras el novio está con ellos? ¡Claro que no, mientras el novio esté presente!

20 b ut days shall come when the bridegroom may be taken from them, and then they shall fast -- in those days.

Pero vendrá el día en que el novio les será quitado, y entonces sí, ese día ayunarán.

21 ` And no one a patch of undressed cloth doth sew on an old garment, and if not -- the new filling it up doth take from the old and the rent doth become worse;

Nadie remienda un vestido viejo con un paño de tela nueva, porque la tela nueva estira la tela vieja y la rotura se hace peor.

22 a nd no one doth put new wine into old skins, and if not -- the new wine doth burst the skins, and the wine is poured out, and the skins will be destroyed; but new wine into new skins is to be put.'

Ni tampoco se echa vino nuevo en odres viejos, porque el vino nuevo revienta los odres, y entonces el vino se derrama y los odres se echan a perder. Más bien, el vino nuevo debe echarse en odres nuevos.» Los discípulos espigan en el día de reposo

23 A nd it came to pass -- he is going along on the sabbaths through the corn-fields -- and his disciples began to make a way, plucking the ears,

Un día de reposo, mientras Jesús pasaba por los sembrados, sus discípulos comenzaron a arrancar espigas a su paso.

24 a nd the Pharisees said to him, `Lo, why do they on the sabbaths that which is not lawful?'

Entonces los fariseos le dijeron: «¡Fíjate! ¿Por qué hacen éstos en el día de reposo lo que no está permitido hacer?»

25 A nd he said to them, `Did ye never read what David did, when he had need and was hungry, he and those with him?

Jesús les respondió: «¿Nunca leyeron lo que hizo David con sus acompañantes, en aquella ocasión en que tuvieron hambre?

26 h ow he went into the house of God, (at `Abiathar the chief priest,') and the loaves of the presentation did eat, which it is not lawful to eat, except to the priests, and he gave also to those who were with him?'

Pues entró en la casa de Dios y comió los panes de la proposición, que sólo a los sacerdotes les es permitido comer, ¡y hasta los compartió con sus acompañantes! En aquel tiempo Abiatar era el sumo sacerdote.»

27 A nd he said to them, `The sabbath for man was made, not man for the sabbath,

También les dijo: «El día de reposo se hizo por causa del género humano, y no el género humano por causa del día de reposo.

28 s o that the son of man is lord also of the sabbath.'

De modo que el Hijo del Hombre es también Señor del día de reposo.»
