1 T he word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, after Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, hath sent him from Ramah, in his taking him -- and he a prisoner in chains -- in the midst of all the removal of Jerusalem and of Judah, who are removed to Babylon.

La palabra del Señor vino a Jeremías después de que Nabuzaradán, el capitán de la guardia, lo liberó en Ramá, y de que él había estado encadenado y marchaba entre todos los cautivos de Jerusalén y de Judá que eran llevados a Babilonia.

2 A nd the chief of the executioners taketh Jeremiah, and saith unto him, `Jehovah thy God hath spoken this evil concerning this place,

El capitán de la guardia tomó a Jeremías y le dijo: «El Señor, tu Dios, había anunciado este mal contra este lugar,

3 a nd Jehovah bringeth in, and doth as He spake, because ye have sinned against Jehovah, and have not hearkened to His voice, even this thing hath been to you.

y ha cumplido con lo que había dicho. Esto les ha sucedido porque ustedes pecaron contra el Señor y no lo obedecieron.

4 ` And now, lo, I have loosed thee to-day from the chains that on thy hand; if good in thine eyes to come with me Babylon, come, and I keep mine eye upon thee: and if evil in thine eyes to come with me to Babylon, forbear; see, all the land before thee, whither good, and whither right in thine eyes to go -- go.' --

Ahora yo te he quitado las cadenas que tenías en las manos. Si te parece bien venir conmigo a Babilonia, ven. Yo cuidaré de ti. Pero si no te parece bien venir conmigo a Babilonia, no vengas. Ahí está todo el país, delante de ti. Puedes ir a donde quieras, y a donde te parezca mejor.

5 a nd while he doth not reply -- `Or turn back unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath appointed over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him in the midst of the people, or whithersoever it is right in thine eyes to go -- go.' And the chief of the executioners giveth to him for the way, and a gift, and sendeth him away,

Si prefieres quedarte, regresa a donde está Gedalías hijo de Ajicán, hijo de Safán, pues el rey de Babilonia lo ha puesto al frente de todas las ciudades de Judá. Puedes quedarte con él y vivir entre el pueblo; o ir a donde te parezca mejor.» Dicho esto, el capitán de la guardia le dio provisiones y un regalo, y lo despidió.

6 a nd Jeremiah cometh in unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and dwelleth with him, in the midst of the people who are left in the land.

Entonces Jeremías se fue a Mispá, donde estaba Gedalías hijo de Ajicán, y vivió allí, entre el pueblo que se había quedado en el país.

7 A nd all the heads of the forces that in the field hear, they and their men, that the king of Babylon hath appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam over the land, and that he hath charged him men, and women, and infants, and of the poor of the land, of those who have not been removed to Babylon;

Cuando todos los jefes del ejército de Judá que no se habían rendido, y sus hombres, supieron que el rey de Babilonia había nombrado gobernador del país a Gedalías hijo de Ajicán, y que había dejado a su cargo a los hombres, las mujeres y los niños, y a los pobres de la tierra que no habían sido llevados a Babilonia,

8 a nd they come in unto Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan sons of Kareah, and Seraiah son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah son of the Maachathite, they and their men.

fueron a Mispá para hablar con Gedalías. Ellos eran Ismael hijo de Netanías, Johanán y Jonatán hijos de Careaj, Seraías hijo de Tanjumet, los hijos de Efay el netofatita, y Jezanías, que era hijo de un macatita, más todos sus hombres.

9 A nd swear to them doth Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, and to their men, saying, `Be not afraid of serving the Chaldeans, abide in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it is well for you;

A ellos y a sus hombres Gedalías hijo de Ajicán, hijo de Safán, les hizo este juramento: «No teman servir a los caldeos. Quédense a vivir en el país y sirvan al rey de Babilonia, y les irá bien.

10 a nd I, lo, I am dwelling in Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldeans who are come in unto us, and ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruit, and oil, and put in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.'

Yo me quedaré a vivir en Mispá para hablar con los caldeos cuando vengan a vernos. Ustedes pueden tomar el vino, los frutos de verano y el aceite, y ponerlo en sus almacenes, y quédense en las ciudades que han tomado.»

11 A nd also all the Jews who in Moab, and among the sons of Ammon, and in Edom, and who in all the lands, have heard that the king of Babylon hath given a remnant to Judah, and that he hath appointed over them Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan,

Todos los judíos que estaban en Moab, y entre los hijos de Amón y de Edom, y los que estaban en todas las tierras, se enteraron de que el rey de Babilonia había dejado a algunos en Judá, y que había nombrado gobernador a Gedalías hijo de Ajicán, hijo de Safán.

12 a nd all the Jews from all the places whither they have been driven, turn back and enter the land of Judah, unto Gedaliah, to Mizpah, and they gather wine and summer fruit -- very much.

Entonces todos estos judíos regresaron de todos los lugares por donde habían sido esparcidos, y vinieron a la tierra de Judá para ver a Gedalías en Mispá, y para recoger vino y abundantes frutos. Conspiración de Ismael contra Gedalías

13 A nd Johanan son of Kareah, and all the heads of the forces that in the field, have come in unto Gedaliah to Mizpah,

Johanán hijo de Careaj y todos los jefes de los soldados que no se habían rendido fueron a ver a Gedalías en Mispá,

14 a nd they say unto him, `Dost thou really know that Baalis king of the sons of Ammon hath sent Ishmael son of Nethaniah to smite thy soul?' And Gedaliah son of Ahikam hath not given to them credence.

Y le dijeron: «¿Acaso no sabes que Baalís, el rey de los amonitas, ha enviado a Ismael hijo de Netanías para que te mate?» Pero Gedalías hijo de Ajicán no les creyó.

15 A nd Johanan son of Kareah hath spoken unto Gedaliah in secret, in Mizpah, saying, `Let me go, I pray thee, and I smite Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and no one doth know; why doth he smite thy soul? and scattered have been all Judah who are gathered unto thee, and perished hath the remnant of Judah.'

Entonces allí en Mispá, Johanán hijo de Careaj habló en secreto con Gedalías y le propuso: «Voy a ir en busca de Ismael hijo de Netanías, y lo mataré sin que nadie lo sepa. Si él llegara a matarte, ¡todos los judíos que se han reunido contigo se dispersarían, y el resto de Judá perecerá!»

16 A nd Gedaliah son of Ahikam saith unto Johanan son of Kareah, `Thou dost not do this thing, for falsehood thou art speaking concerning Ishmael.'

Pero Gedalías hijo de Ajicán le dijo a Johanán hijo de Careaj: «No lo hagas. Eso que dices de Ismael es una falsedad.»
