1 A nd Samuel saith unto all Israel, `Lo, I have hearkened to your voice, to all that ye said to me, and I cause to reign over you a king,

Samuel reunió a todos los israelitas, y les dijo: «He oído atentamente todo lo que me han dicho, y les he puesto un rey.

2 a nd now, lo, the king is walking habitually before you, and I have become aged and gray-headed, and my sons, lo, they with you, and I have walked habitually before you from my youth till this day.

Aquí lo tienen, ante su ojos. Yo ya estoy viejo y lleno de canas, y he convivido entre ustedes desde mi juventud. Pero mis hijos viven entre ustedes.

3 ` Lo, here I; testify against me, over-against Jehovah, and over-against His anointed; whose ox have I taken, and whose ass have I taken, and whom have I oppressed; whom have I bruised, and of whose hand have I taken a ransom, and hide mine eyes with it? -- and I restore to you.'

Aquí me tienen. Acúsenme de algo ante el Señor y ante su rey; díganme si acaso he robado el buey o el asno de alguien, o si he hablado mal de alguien, si lo he ofendido, o si alguien me ha sobornado para cometer injusticia a su favor. Hablen, y yo haré la restitución.»

4 A nd they say, `Thou hast not oppressed us, nor hast thou crushed us, nor hast thou taken from the hand of any one anything.'

Todos dijeron: «Nunca nos has calumniado ni ofendido; tampoco has robado nada de nadie.»

5 A nd he saith unto them, `A witness Jehovah against you: and a witness His anointed this day, that ye have not found anything in my hand;' and they say, `A witness.'

Y Samuel respondió: «El Señor y su ungido son testigos de que han declarado no haber hallado en mí ninguna falta.» Y ellos respondieron: «Somos testigos de eso.»

6 A nd Samuel saith unto the people, `Jehovah -- He who made Moses and Aaron, and who brought up your fathers out of the land of Egypt!

Entonces Samuel dijo al pueblo: «Testigo es también el Señor, quien eligió a Moisés y a Aarón, y que sacó de Egipto a los antepasados de ustedes.

7 a nd, now, station yourselves, and I judge you before Jehovah, with all the righteous acts of Jehovah, which He did with you, and with your fathers.

Ahora, les pido que me escuchen con atención, porque les voy a relatar lo que el Señor ha hecho para librarlos a ustedes y a sus padres de todos los peligros.

8 ` When Jacob hath come in to Egypt, and your fathers cry unto Jehovah, then Jehovah sendeth Moses and Aaron, and they bring out your fathers from Egypt, and cause them to dwell in this place,

Después de que Jacob entró en Egipto, los antepasados de ustedes eran oprimidos y clamaron al Señor, y él les envió a Moisés y a Aarón, y ellos los sacaron de Egipto y los hicieron habitar en este lugar.

9 a nd they forget Jehovah their God, and He selleth them into the hand of Sisera, head of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fight against them,

Pero ellos se olvidaron del Señor su Dios, y él los dejó caer en manos de Sísara, jefe del ejército de Jazor, y en manos de los filisteos y del rey de Moab. Todos ellos pelearon contra los israelitas.

10 a nd they cry unto Jehovah, and say, We have sinned, because we have forsaken Jehovah, and serve the Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and now, deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we serve Thee.

Pero ellos se arrepintieron y clamaron al Señor. Le dijeron: “Señor, hemos pecado. Perdónanos, pues te hemos dejado por servir a los baales y a Astarot. Ahora, líbranos del poder de nuestros enemigos, y te serviremos.”

11 ` And Jehovah sendeth Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivereth you out of the hand of your enemies round about, and ye dwell confidently.

Entonces el Señor envió a Yerubaal, a Barac, a Jefté y a mí, Samuel, y los libró del poder de todos los enemigos que los rodeaban, para que vivieran tranquilos.

12 ` And ye see that Nahash king of the Bene-Ammon hath come against you, and ye say to me, Nay, but a king doth reign over us; and Jehovah your God your king!

Pero cuando ustedes vieron que Najás, el rey de los amonitas, venía a pelear contra ustedes, me dijeron: “Queremos que nos gobierne un rey”, cuando en realidad el rey de ustedes es Dios el Señor.

13 A nd, now, lo, the king whom ye have chosen -- whom ye have asked! and lo, Jehovah hath placed over you a king.

Pero aquí está el rey que han elegido; el rey que ustedes pidieron. El Señor les ha puesto un rey.

14 ` If ye fear Jehovah, and have served Him, and hearkened to His voice, then ye do not provoke the mouth of Jehovah, and ye have been -- both ye and the king who hath reigned over you -- after Jehovah your God.

Si ustedes aman y obedecen al Señor, y le sirven; si no son rebeldes a su palabra, y si tanto ustedes como su rey sirven al Señor su Dios, harán bien.

15 ` And if ye do not hearken to the voice of Jehovah -- then ye have provoked the mouth of Jehovah, and the hand of Jehovah hath been against you, and against your fathers.

Pero si no lo obedecen, sino que son rebeldes a las palabras del Señor, él se pondrá en contra de ustedes, como se volvió en contra de sus padres.

16 ` Also now, station yourselves and see this great thing which Jehovah is doing before your eyes;

Esperen un poco y podrán ver las grandes cosas que el Señor hará entre ustedes.

17 i s it not wheat-harvest to-day? I call unto Jehovah, and He doth give voices and rain; and know ye and see that your evil is great which ye have done in the eyes of Jehovah, to ask for you a king.'

Estamos en el tiempo de la cosecha, cuando no llueve. Pero yo clamaré al Señor, y él enviará truenos y lluvias, para que vean y comprueben la gran maldad que han cometido a los ojos del Señor, al pedir un rey.»

18 A nd Samuel calleth unto Jehovah, and Jehovah giveth voices and rain, on that day, and all the people greatly fear Jehovah and Samuel;

Y ese mismo día Samuel clamó al Señor, y el Señor envió truenos y lluvias, y todo el pueblo sintió temor ante el Señor y ante Samuel.

19 a nd all the people say unto Samuel, `Pray for thy servants unto Jehovah thy God, and we do not die, for we have added to all our sins evil to ask for us a king.'

Entonces todo el pueblo le dijo a Samuel: «Ruega al Señor tu Dios por nosotros, tus siervos, para que no muramos. Reconocemos que a todos los pecados que hemos cometido, hemos añadido este otro de pedir que un rey nos gobierne».

20 A nd Samuel saith unto the people, `Fear not; ye have done all this evil; only, turn not aside from after Jehovah -- and ye have served Jehovah with all your heart,

Y Samuel respondió al pueblo: «No tengan miedo. Es verdad que ya cometieron esta maldad. Pero a pesar de eso, no se aparten del Señor, sino síganlo y sírvanle de todo corazón.

21 a nd ye do not turn aside after the vain things which do not profit nor deliver, for they vain,

No vayan tras los dioses falsos, porque no les servirán de nada ni podrán salvarlos, porque no son nada.

22 f or Jehovah doth not leave His people, on account of His great name; for Jehovah hath been pleased to make you to Him for a people.

El Señor no desamparará a su pueblo, porque grande es su nombre, y él los escogió para que fueran su pueblo.

23 ` I, also, far be it from me to sin against Jehovah, by ceasing to pray for you, and I have directed you in the good and upright way;

Lejos estará de mí pecar contra el Señor dejando de rogar por ustedes; al contrario, me comprometo a instruirlos en el camino bueno y recto,

24 o nly, fear ye Jehovah, and ye have served Him in truth with all your heart, for see that which He hath made great with you;

con tal de que ustedes teman al Señor y en verdad le sirvan de todo corazón. Recuerden todo lo que él ha hecho en favor de ustedes.

25 a nd if ye really do evil, both ye and your king are consumed.'

Pero si insisten en hacer lo malo, tanto ustedes como su rey perecerán.»
