1 A nd Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, `Go, ascend from this, thou and the people, whom thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land which I have sworn to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, To thy seed I give it,'

El Señor le dijo a Moisés: «Anda, vete ya de aquí, con el pueblo que sacaste de Egipto, y llévalos a la tierra que prometí darles a Abrahán, Isaac y Jacob, cuando dije: “Se la daré a tu descendencia.”

2 ( and I have sent before thee a messenger, and have cast out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite,)

Yo enviaré un ángel para que vaya delante de ti, y expulsaré a los cananeos y a los amorreos, a los hititas y a los ferezeos, y a los jivitas y jebuseos.

3 u nto a land flowing with milk and honey, for I do not go up in thy midst, for thou a stiff-necked people -- lest I consume thee in the way.'

Esa tierra fluye leche y miel. Pero yo no iré contigo, porque eres un pueblo de dura cerviz y bien podría yo consumirte en el camino.»

4 A nd the people hear this sad thing, and mourn; and none put his ornaments on him.

Cuando el pueblo se enteró de esta mala noticia, se vistieron de luto y ninguno se puso sus joyas.

5 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Say unto the sons of Israel, Ye a stiff-necked people; one moment -- I come up into thy midst, and have consumed thee; and now, put down thine ornaments from off thee, and I know what I do to thee;'

Y es que el Señor le había dicho a Moisés: «Diles a los hijos de Israel: “Ustedes son un pueblo de dura cerviz. Si acaso los acompañara, en cualquier momento podría acabar con ustedes.” Así que, quítense ahora sus joyas, para que yo sepa lo que tengo que hacer.»

6 a nd the sons of Israel take off their ornaments at mount Horeb.

Y así, desde que partieron del monte Horeb los hijos de Israel se despojaron de sus joyas.

7 A nd Moses taketh the tent, and hath stretched it out at the outside of the camp, afar off from the camp, and hath called it, `Tent of Meeting;' and it hath come to pass, every one seeking Jehovah goeth out unto the tent of meeting, which at the outside of the camp.

Moisés tomó el tabernáculo y lo plantó lejos, fuera del campamento, y lo llamó «Tabernáculo de Reunión». Todo el que buscaba al Señor iba hasta el tabernáculo de reunión, el cual estaba fuera del campamento.

8 A nd it hath come to pass, at the going out of Moses unto the tent, all the people rise, and have stood, each at the opening of his tent, and have looked expectingly after Moses, until his going into the tent.

Cada vez que Moisés iba al tabernáculo, todo el pueblo se levantaba y se quedaba de pie, a la entrada de su tienda, y seguían a Moisés con la mirada, hasta que él entraba en el tabernáculo.

9 A nd it hath come to pass, at the going in of Moses to the tent, the pillar of the cloud cometh down, and hath stood at the opening of the tent, and He hath spoken with Moses;

Al entrar Moisés en el tabernáculo, la columna de nube descendía y se quedaba a la entrada del tabernáculo, y entonces el Señor hablaba con Moisés.

10 a nd all the people have seen the pillar of the cloud standing at the opening of the tent, and all the people have risen and bowed themselves, each at the opening of his tent.

Y cuando todo el pueblo veía la columna de nube a la entrada del tabernáculo, se levantaba cada uno e iba a la entrada de su tienda para adorar.

11 A nd Jehovah hath spoken unto Moses face unto face, as a man speaketh unto his friend; and he hath turned back unto the camp, and his minister Joshua, son of Nun, a youth, departeth not out of the tent.

Y el Señor hablaba con Moisés cara a cara, como habla cualquiera con su compañero. Después Moisés volvía al campamento, pero el joven Josué hijo de Nun, su servidor, nunca se apartaba del tabernáculo.

12 A nd Moses saith unto Jehovah, `See, Thou art saying unto me, Bring up this people, and Thou hast not caused me to know whom Thou dost send with me; and Thou hast said, I have known thee by name, and also thou hast found grace in Mine eyes.

Moisés le dijo entonces al Señor: «Mira, tú me has dicho: “Llévate de aquí a este pueblo”; pero no me has dicho a quién vas a enviar conmigo. Lejos de eso, insistes: “Yo te conozco. Sé quién eres, y te has ganado mi favor.”

13 ` And now, if, I pray Thee, I have found grace in Thine eyes, cause me to know, I pray Thee, Thy way, and I know Thee, so that I find grace in Thine eyes, and consider that this nation Thy people;'

Ahora bien, si en verdad me he ganado tu favor, te ruego que me hagas saber qué planes tienes. Así sabré si en verdad me he ganado tu favor. ¡Toma en cuenta que esta gente es tu pueblo!»

14 a nd He saith, `My presence doth go, and I have given rest to thee.'

Y el Señor le dijo: «Mi presencia irá contigo, y te haré descansar.»

15 A nd he saith unto Him, `If Thy presence is not going -- take us not up from this;

Pero Moisés respondió: «Si tú no vas a venir conmigo, no nos saques de aquí.

16 a nd in what is it known now, that I have found grace in Thine eyes -- I and Thy people -- is it not in Thy going with us? and we have been distinguished -- I and Thy people -- from all the people who on the face of the ground.'

¿Cómo vamos a saber tu pueblo y yo que en verdad me he ganado tu favor? ¡Lo sabremos sólo si vienes con nosotros, y sólo si tu pueblo y yo somos apartados de todos los pueblos que hay sobre la faz de la tierra!»

17 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Even this thing which thou hast spoken I do; for thou hast found grace in Mine eyes, and I know thee by name.'

El Señor le dijo a Moisés: «Tan cierto es que te has ganado mi favor, y que te conozco por nombre, que voy a hacer lo que me has pedido.»

18 A nd he saith, `Shew me, I pray Thee, Thine honour;'

Entonces Moisés dijo: «Te ruego que me muestres tu gloria.»

19 a nd He saith, `I cause all My goodness to pass before thy face, and have called concerning the Name of Jehovah before thee, and favoured him whom I favour, and loved him whom I love.'

Y el Señor le respondió: «Voy a hacer que todo mi bien pase delante de ti, y delante de ti voy a proclamar mi nombre, que es EL SEÑOR. Porque soy misericordioso con quien quiero ser misericordioso, y soy clemente con quien quiero ser clemente.»

20 H e saith also, `Thou art unable to see My face, for man doth not see Me, and live;'

El señor dijo también: «Mi rostro no podrás verlo, porque nadie puede ver mi rostro y seguir viviendo.»

21 J ehovah also saith, `Lo, a place by Me, and thou hast stood on the rock,

Y añadió: «¡Mira! Aquí en la roca, junto a mí, hay un lugar. Quédate allí;

22 a nd it hath come to pass, in the passing by of Mine honour, that I have set thee in a cleft of the rock, and spread out My hands over thee, until My passing by,

y cuando pase mi gloria, yo te pondré en una hendidura de la roca y te cubriré con mi mano mientras paso.

23 a nd I have turned aside My hands, and thou hast seen My back parts, and My face is not seen.'

Después de eso apartaré mi mano, y podrás ver mis espaldas, pero no mi rostro.»
