1 A nd the king cometh in, and Haman, to drink with Esther the queen,

El rey fue con Amán al banquete de la reina Ester.

2 a nd the king saith to Esther also on the second day, during the banquet of wine, `What thy petition, Esther, O queen? and it is given to thee; and what thy request? unto the half of the kingdom -- and it is done.'

En el segundo día, mientras bebían vino, el rey le preguntó a Ester: «¿Cuál es tu petición, reina Ester? Te será concedida. ¿Qué es lo que pides? Aunque pidas la mitad del reino, te será otorgada.»

3 A nd Esther the queen answereth and saith, `If I have found grace in thine eyes, O king, and if to the king good, let my life be given to me at my petition, and my people at my request;

La reina Ester respondió: «Si en verdad soy del agrado de Su Majestad, y si a Su Majestad le parece bien, mi petición es que se me conceda la vida de mi pueblo y mi propia vida.

4 f or we have been sold, I and my people, to cut off, to slay, and to destroy; and if for men-servants and for maid-servants we had been sold I had kept silent -- but the adversity is not equal to the loss of the king.'

Porque a mi pueblo y a mí se nos ha vendido. ¡Se nos quiere destruir, matar y exterminar! Si se nos hubiera vendido para ser esclavos y esclavas, me callaría; pero nuestra muerte será para Su Majestad un daño irreparable.»

5 A nd the king Ahasuerus saith, yea, he saith to Esther the queen, `Who he -- this one? and where this one? -- he whose heart hath filled him to do so?'

Como respuesta, el rey Asuero le preguntó a la reina Ester: «¿Quién es, y dónde está, el que ha abrigado en su corazón hacer tal cosa?»

6 A nd Esther saith, `The man -- adversary and enemy -- this wicked Haman;' and Haman hath been afraid at the presence of the king and of the queen.

Ester dijo: «El enemigo y adversario es este malvado Amán.» Entonces Amán se trastornó ante el rey y la reina.

7 A nd the king hath risen, in his fury, from the banquet of wine, unto the garden of the house, and Haman hath remained to seek for his life from Esther the queen, for he hath seen that evil hath been determined against him by the king.

Lleno de ira, el rey se levantó del banquete y se fue al huerto del palacio, mientras que Amán se quedó para suplicarle a la reina Ester que le perdonara la vida, pues se dio cuenta del peligro que corría por el enojo del rey.

8 A nd the king hath turned back out of the garden of the house unto the house of the banquet of wine, and Haman is falling on the couch on which Esther, and the king saith, `Also to subdue the queen with me in the house?' the word hath gone out from the mouth of the king, and the face of Haman they have covered.

Cuando el rey volvió del huerto del palacio al aposento del banquete, y vio que Amán estaba recostado sobre el lecho donde estaba Ester, le dijo: «¿Acaso quieres también violar a la reina en mi propia casa?» Al proferir el rey estas palabras, le cubrieron el rostro a Amán.

9 A nd Harbonah, one of the eunuchs, saith before the king, `Also lo, the tree that Haman made for Mordecai, who spake good for the king, is standing in the house of Haman, in height fifty cubits;' and the king saith, `Hang him upon it.'

Entonces Jarboná, que era uno de los eunucos del rey, dijo: «En la casa de Amán hay una horca de cincuenta codos de altura. La mandó hacer Amán para colgar a Mardoqueo, que fue quien habló en favor del rey.» Y el rey ordenó: «¡Cuelguen de ella a Amán!»

10 A nd they hang Haman upon the tree that he had prepared for Mordecai, and the fury of the king hath lain down.

Y así Amán fue colgado en la horca que había mandado preparar para Mardoqueo. Con esto, la ira del rey se calmó.
