1 A nd before the feast of the passover, Jesus knowing that his hour hath come, that he may remove out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own who in the world -- to the end he loved them.

Antes de la fiesta de la pascua, Jesús sabía que su hora había llegado para pasar de este mundo y volver al Padre. A los suyos que estaban en el mundo los había amado siempre, y los amó hasta el fin.

2 A nd supper being come, the devil already having put into the heart of Judas of Simon, Iscariot, that he may deliver him up,

El diablo ya había puesto en el corazón de Judas Iscariote, hijo de Simón, que entregara a Jesús, así que mientras cenaban

3 J esus knowing that all things the Father hath given to him -- into hands, and that from God he came forth, and unto God he goeth,

Jesús, que sabía que el Padre había puesto en sus manos todas las cosas, y que había salido de Dios, y que a Dios volvía,

4 d oth rise from the supper, and doth lay down his garments, and having taken a towel, he girded himself;

se levantó de la cena, se quitó su manto y, tomando una toalla, se la sujetó a la cintura;

5 a fterward he putteth water into the basin, and began to wash the feet of his disciples, and to wipe with the towel with which he was being girded.

luego puso agua en un recipiente y comenzó a lavar los pies de los discípulos, para luego secárselos con la toalla que llevaba en la cintura.

6 H e cometh, therefore, unto Simon Peter, and that one saith to him, `Sir, thou -- dost thou wash my feet?'

Cuando llegó a Simón Pedro, éste le dijo: «Señor, ¿tú me lavas los pies?»

7 J esus answered and said to him, `That which I do thou hast not known now, but thou shalt know after these things;'

Respondió Jesús y le dijo: «Lo que yo hago, no lo entiendes ahora; pero lo entenderás después.»

8 P eter saith to him, `Thou mayest not wash my feet -- to the age.' Jesus answered him, `If I may not wash thee, thou hast no part with me;'

Pedro le dijo: «¡Jamás me lavarás los pies!» Y Jesús le respondió: «Si no te los lavo, no tendrás parte conmigo.»

9 S imon Peter saith to him, `Sir, not my feet only, but also the hands and the head.'

Simón Pedro le dijo: «Entonces, Señor, lávame no solamente los pies, sino también las manos y la cabeza.»

10 J esus saith to him, `He who hath been bathed hath no need save to wash his feet, but he is clean altogether; and ye are clean, but not all;'

Jesús le dijo: «El que está lavado, no necesita más que lavarse los pies, pues está todo limpio. Y ustedes están limpios, aunque no todos.»

11 f or he knew him who is delivering him up; because of this he said, `Ye are not all clean.'

Y es que él sabía quién lo entregaría; por eso dijo: «No todos están limpios.»

12 W hen, therefore, he washed their feet, and took his garments, having reclined (at meat) again, he said to them, `Do ye know what I have done to you?

Después de lavarles los pies, Jesús tomó su manto, volvió a la mesa, y les dijo: «¿Saben lo que he hecho con ustedes?

13 y e call me, The Teacher and The Lord, and ye say well, for I am;

Ustedes me llaman Maestro, y Señor; y dicen bien, porque lo soy.

14 i f then I did wash your feet -- the Lord and the Teacher -- ye also ought to wash one another's feet.

Pues si yo, el Señor y el Maestro, les he lavado los pies, también ustedes deben lavarse los pies unos a otros.

15 ` For an example I gave to you, that, according as I did to you, ye also may do;

Porque les he puesto el ejemplo, para que lo mismo que yo he hecho con ustedes, también ustedes lo hagan.

16 v erily, verily, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his lord, nor an apostle greater than he who sent him;

De cierto, de cierto les digo: El siervo no es mayor que su señor, ni el enviado es mayor que el que le envió.

17 i f these things ye have known, happy are ye, if ye may do them;

Si saben estas cosas, y las hacen, serán bienaventurados.

18 n ot concerning you all do I speak; I have known whom I chose for myself; but that the Writing may be fulfilled: He who is eating the bread with me, did lift up against me his heel.

No hablo de todos ustedes; yo sé a quiénes he elegido. Pero es para que se cumpla la Escritura: “El que come pan conmigo, levantó contra mí el talón.”

19 ` From this time I tell you, before its coming to pass, that, when it may come to pass, ye may believe that I am;

Les digo esto desde ahora, y antes de que suceda, para que cuando suceda crean que yo soy.

20 v erily, verily, I say to you, he who is receiving whomsoever I may send, doth receive me; and he who is receiving me, doth receive Him who sent me.'

De cierto, de cierto les digo: El que recibe al que yo envío, me recibe a mí; y el que me recibe a mí, recibe al que me envió.» Jesús anuncia la traición de Judas

21 T hese things having said, Jesus was troubled in the spirit, and did testify, and said, `Verily, verily, I say to you, that one of you will deliver me up;'

Dicho esto, Jesús se conmovió en espíritu, y declaró: «De cierto, de cierto les digo, que uno de ustedes me va a entregar.»

22 t he disciples were looking, therefore, one at another, doubting concerning whom he speaketh.

Los discípulos se miraban unos a otros, dudando de quién hablaba.

23 A nd there was one of his disciples reclining (at meat) in the bosom of Jesus, whom Jesus was loving;

Uno de sus discípulos, al cual Jesús amaba, estaba recostado al lado de Jesús.

24 S imon Peter, then, doth beckon to this one, to inquire who he may be concerning whom he speaketh,

A éste, Simón Pedro le hizo señas, para que preguntara quién era aquel de quien Jesús hablaba.

25 a nd that one having leant back on the breast of Jesus, respondeth to him, `Sir, who is it?'

Entonces el que estaba recostado cerca del pecho de Jesús, le dijo: «Señor, ¿quién es?»

26 J esus answereth, `That one it is to whom I, having dipped the morsel, shall give it;' and having dipped the morsel, he giveth to Judas of Simon, Iscariot.

Respondió Jesús: «Es aquel a quien yo le dé el pan mojado.» Enseguida, Jesús mojó el pan y se lo dio a Judas Iscariote, hijo de Simón.

27 A nd after the morsel, then the Adversary entered into that one, Jesus, therefore, saith to him, `What thou dost -- do quickly;'

Después del bocado, Satanás entró en él. Entonces Jesús le dijo: «Lo que vas a hacer, hazlo pronto.»

28 a nd none of those reclining at meat knew for what intent he said this to him,

Pero ninguno de los que estaban a la mesa entendió por qué le dijo esto.

29 f or certain were thinking, since Judas had the bag, that Jesus saith to him, `Buy what we have need of for the feast;' or that he may give something to the poor;

Y es que, como Judas tenía la bolsa, algunos pensaban que Jesús le decía que comprara lo necesario para la fiesta, o que diera algo a los pobres.

30 h aving received, therefore, the morsel, that one immediately went forth, and it was night.

En cuanto Judas tomó el bocado de pan, salió. Era ya de noche. El nuevo mandamiento

31 W hen, therefore, he went forth, Jesus saith, `Now was the Son of Man glorified, and God was glorified in him;

Después de que Judas salió, Jesús dijo: «Ahora el Hijo del Hombre es glorificado, y Dios es glorificado en él.

32 i f God was glorified in him, God also will glorify him in Himself; yea, immediately He will glorify him.

Si Dios es glorificado en él, Dios también lo glorificará en sí mismo, y lo glorificará sin tardanza.

33 ` Little children, yet a little am I with you; ye will seek me, and, according as I said to the Jews -- Whither I go away, ye are not able to come, to you also I do say now.

Hijitos, aún estaré con ustedes un poco. Y me buscarán. Pero lo que les dije a los judíos, les digo a ustedes ahora: A donde yo voy, ustedes no pueden ir.

34 ` A new commandment I give to you, that ye love one another; according as I did love you, that ye also love one another;

Un mandamiento nuevo les doy: Que se amen unos a otros. Así como yo los he amado, ámense también ustedes unos a otros.

35 i n this shall all know that ye are my disciples, if ye may have love one to another.'

En esto conocerán todos que ustedes son mis discípulos, si se aman unos a otros.» Jesús anuncia la negación de Pedro

36 S imon Peter saith to him, `Sir, whither dost thou go away?' Jesus answered him, `Whither I go away, thou art not able now to follow me, but afterward thou shalt follow me.'

Simón Pedro le dijo: «Señor, ¿a dónde vas?» Jesús le respondió: «A donde yo voy, no me puedes seguir ahora; pero me seguirás después.»

37 P eter saith to him, `Sir, wherefore am I not able to follow thee now? my life for thee I will lay down;'

Pedro le dijo: «Señor, ¿por qué no te puedo seguir ahora? ¡Por ti daré mi vida!»

38 J esus answered him, `Thy life for me thou wilt lay down! verily, verily, I say to thee, a cock will not crow till thou mayest deny me thrice.'

Jesús le respondió: «¿Tú darás tu vida por mí? De cierto, de cierto te digo, que no cantará el gallo sin que me hayas negado tres veces.»
