1 W hen Ephraim speaketh tremblingly, He hath been lifted up in Israel, When he becometh guilty in Baal he dieth.

»Efraín era muy importante en Israel. Cuando hablaba, había temor. Pero murió por haber pecado con Baal.

2 A nd now do they add to sin, And make to them a molten image of their silver, By their own understanding -- idols, A work of artizans -- all of it, Of them they say, who sacrificers among men, `The calves let them kiss.'

Y ahora ha añadido más a su pecado, pues con su plata, y según su entender, se ha hecho imágenes fundidas de becerros, ídolos fabricados por artífices, y piden a la gente que les ofrezcan sacrificios y los besen.

3 T herefore they are as a cloud of the morning, And as dew, rising early, going away, As chaff tossed about out of a floor, And as smoke out of a window.

Por lo tanto, desaparecerán como la niebla matutina, como el rocío de la madrugada, como el tamo que el viento arrebata de la era, ¡como el humo que sale de la chimenea!

4 A nd I Jehovah thy God from the land of Egypt, And a God besides Me thou dost not know, And a Saviour -- there is none save Me.

»Yo soy el Señor tu Dios. Yo te saqué de Egipto. No conocerás a otro dios fuera de mí, pues yo soy tu único salvador.

5 I -- I have known thee in a wilderness, In a land of droughts.

Yo te conocí en la aridez del desierto.

6 A ccording to their feedings they are satiated, They have been satiated, And their heart is lifted up, Therefore they have forgotten Me,

Yo los cuidé, y ustedes comieron hasta saciarte, pero luego su corazón se llenó de soberbia y se olvidaron de mí.

7 A nd I am to them as a lion, As a leopard by the way I look out.

Por lo tanto, yo voy a ser para ellos como un león; voy a acecharlos en el camino como un leopardo.

8 I do meet them as a bereaved bear, And I rend the enclosure of their heart.

Voy a buscarlos como una osa que ha perdido a sus cachorros y, cuando los encuentre, como león les desgarraré las fibras de su corazón y los devoraré; ¡los despedazaré como una fiera salvaje!

9 A nd I consume them there as a lioness, A beast of the field doth rend them.

»Tú, Israel, te has corrompido, a pesar de que contabas con mi ayuda.

10 T hou hast destroyed thyself, O Israel, But in Me thy help, Where thy king now -- And he doth save thee in all thy cities? And thy judges of whom thou didst say, `Give to me a king and heads?'

¿Dónde está tu rey? ¡Que venga a proteger todas tus ciudades! ¿Y dónde están los jueces, y el rey y los príncipes que me pediste?

11 I give to thee a king in Mine anger, And I take away in My wrath.

En mi furor te di rey, y en mi ira te lo quité.

12 B ound up the iniquity of Ephraim, Hidden his sin,

»Pero no he olvidado la maldad de Efraín, ni su pecado.

13 P angs of a travailing woman come to him, He a son not wise, For he remaineth not the time for the breaking forth of sons.

Es un hijo poco inteligente, que al momento de nacer no encuentra la salida. ¡Por eso le sobrevendrán dolores como de mujer parturienta!

14 F rom the hand of Sheol I do ransom them, From death I redeem them, Where thy plague, O death? Where thy destruction, O Sheol? Repentance is hid from Mine eyes.

»¿Y habré entonces de librarlos del poder de la muerte? ¿Habré de ponerlos a salvo del sepulcro? ¿Y dónde están las plagas de la muerte? ¿Y dónde está la destrucción del sepulcro? Por mi parte, ¡ya no tengo compasión!»

15 T hough he among brethren produceth fruit, Come in doth an east wind, a wind of Jehovah, From a wilderness it is coming up, And it drieth up his fountain, And become dry doth his spring, It -- it spoileth a treasure -- every desirable vessel.

Aun cuando Efraín prospere entre sus hermanos, desde el desierto vendrá, de parte del Señor, el viento solano; y se levantará para secar su manantial y agotar su fuente. ¡El Señor saqueará sus tesoros y todas sus preciosas alhajas!

16 B ecome desolate doth Samaria, Because she hath rebelled against her God, By sword they do fall, Their sucklings are dashed in pieces, And its pregnant ones are ripped up!

Samaria quedará asolada por haberse rebelado contra su Dios; sus hombres caerán a filo de espada, sus niños serán estrellados contra el suelo, y sus mujeres encintas serán abiertas en canal.
