1 I n the twenty and third year of Joash son of Ahaziah king of Judah, hath Jehoahaz son of Jehu reigned over Israel, in Samaria -- seventeen years,

Joás hijo de Ocozías, rey de Judá, tenía veintitrés años de reinar cuando Joacaz hijo de Jehú comenzó a reinar sobre Israel en Samaria, y reinó diecisiete años.

2 a nd he doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and goeth after the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, that he caused Israel to sin -- he turned not aside from it,

Pero hizo lo malo a los ojos del Señor, y siguió cometiendo los mismos pecados con que Jeroboán hijo de Nabat hizo pecar a Israel, y no se apartó de ellos.

3 a nd the anger of Jehovah burneth against Israel, and He giveth them into the hand of Hazael king of Aram, and into the hand of Ben-Hadad son of Hazael, all the days.

Entonces se encendió el furor del Señor contra Israel, y durante mucho tiempo los entregó en manos del rey Jazael de Siria y de su hijo Ben Adad.

4 A nd Jehoahaz appeaseth the face of Jehovah, and Jehovah hearkeneth unto him, for He hath seen the oppression of Israel, for oppressed them hath the king of Aram, --

Sin embargo, Joacaz oró en presencia del Señor, y el Señor lo escuchó porque vio cómo el rey de Siria afligía a Israel.

5 a nd Jehovah giveth to Israel a saviour, and they go out from under the hand of Aram, and the sons of Israel dwell in their tents as heretofore;

En efecto, el Señor envió un salvador a Israel, que los libró del poder de los sirios; así los israelitas volvieron a habitar en sus tiendas, como antes.

6 o nly, they have not turned aside from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, that he caused Israel to sin, therein they walked, and also, the shrine hath remained in Samaria, --

A pesar de eso, no se apartaron de los pecados con que la familia de Jeroboán hizo pecar a Israel, sino que siguieron cometiéndolos, y también la imagen de Asera permaneció en Samaria.

7 f or he left not to Jehoahaz of the people except fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen, for the king of Aram hath destroyed them, and maketh them as dust for threshing.

Joacaz no contaba ya con más de cincuenta soldados de caballería, diez carros de combate y diez mil soldados de infantería, pues el rey de Siria había desbaratado el ejército y lo había hecho morder el polvo.

8 A nd the rest of the matters of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?

El resto de los hechos de Joacaz, y todas sus obras y hazañas, se halla registrado en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel.

9 A nd Jehoahaz lieth with his fathers, and they bury him in Samaria, and reign doth Joash his son in his stead.

Cuando Joacaz se reunió con sus antepasados, lo sepultaron en Samaria, y en su lugar reinó su hijo Joás. Reinado de Joás de Israel

10 I n the thirty and seventh year of Joash king of Judah reigned hath Jehoash son of Jehoahaz over Israel, in Samaria -- sixteen years,

Joás tenía treinta y siete años de reinar sobre Judá cuando Joás hijo de Joacaz comenzó a reinar sobre Israel, y reinó dieciséis años en Samaria.

11 a nd he doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, he hath not turned aside from all the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, that he caused Israel to sin, therein he walked.

Pero hizo lo malo a los ojos del Señor. No se apartó de todos los pecados con que Jeroboán hijo de Nabat hizo pecar a Israel, sino que siguió cometiéndolos.

12 A nd the rest of the matters of Joash, and all that he did, and his might with which he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?

Los demás hechos de Joás, y todas sus obras, y su denodada lucha contra el rey Amasías de Judá, se hallan registrados en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel.

13 A nd Joash lieth with his fathers, and Jeroboam hath sat on his throne, and Joash is buried in Samaria, with the kings of Israel.

Cuando Joás se reunió con sus antepasados, fue sepultado en Samaria con los reyes de Israel. Jeroboán lo sucedió en el trono. Profecía final y muerte de Eliseo

14 A nd Elisha hath been sick with his sickness in which he dieth, and come down unto him doth Joash king of Israel, and weepeth on his face, and saith, `My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and its horsemen.'

Eliseo cayó enfermo, y de esa enfermedad murió. El rey Joás fue a visitarlo, y con lágrimas en los ojos dijo: «¡Padre mío, padre mío! ¡Tú has sido para Israel su caballería y sus carros de combate!»

15 A nd Elisha saith to him, `Take bow and arrows:' and he taketh unto him bow and arrows.

Eliseo le dijo: «Toma un arco y unas flechas.» Joás tomó el arco y las flechas,

16 A nd he saith to the king of Israel, `Place thy hand on the bow;' and he placeth his hand, and Elisha putteth his hands on the hands of the king,

y entonces Eliseo le dijo: «Rey de Israel, sujeta el arco con tus manos.» Joás así lo hizo. Entonces Eliseo puso sus manos sobre las manos del rey,

17 a nd saith, `Open the window eastward;' and he openeth, and Elisha saith, `Shoot,' and he shooteth; and he saith, `An arrow of salvation to Jehovah, and an arrow of salvation against Aram, and thou hast smitten Aram, in Aphek, till consuming.'

y dijo: «Ahora abre la ventana que da al oriente.» Cuando Joás la abrió, Eliseo le ordenó: «Ahora, ¡lanza la flecha!» En el momento en que Joás lanzó la flecha, Eliseo exclamó: «Con esta flecha el Señor los salvará de Siria. En Afec herirás de muerte a los sirios, y acabarás con ellos.»

18 A nd he saith, `Take the arrows,' and he taketh; and he saith to the king of Israel, `Smite to the earth;' and he smiteth three times, and stayeth.

Dicho esto, añadió: «Toma las flechas restantes.» En cuanto el rey de Israel las tomó, le dijo: «Ahora golpea el suelo.» El rey golpeó el suelo tres veces, y se detuvo.

19 A nd the man of God is wroth against him, and saith, `By smiting five or six times then thou hadst smitten Aram till consuming; and now, three times thou dost smite Aram.'

Entonces el varón de Dios se enojó con él, y le dijo: «Si hubieras golpeado el suelo cinco o seis veces, habrías derrotado a Siria hasta su último hombre. Pero ahora sólo derrotarás a Siria tres veces.»

20 A nd Elisha dieth, and they bury him, and troops of Moab come in to the land, at the coming in of the year,

Eliseo murió, y lo sepultaron. Ese mismo año, unas bandas de bandoleros moabitas incursionaron en el país.

21 a nd it cometh to pass, they are burying a man, and lo, they have seen the troop, and cast the man into the grave of Elisha, and the man goeth and cometh against the bones of Elisha, and liveth, and riseth on his feet.

Y sucedió que, mientras se enterraba un cadáver, de pronto apareció una banda de esos bandoleros; entonces los enterradores dejaron caer el cadáver en el sepulcro de Eliseo, y en cuanto el cadáver tocó los huesos de Eliseo, cobró vida y se puso de pie.

22 A nd Hazael king of Aram hath oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz,

El rey Jazael de Siria afligió a Israel durante todo el reinado de Joacaz.

23 a nd Jehovah doth favour them, and pity them, and turn unto them, for the sake of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and hath not been willing to destroy them, nor to cast them from His presence as yet.

Pero el Señor vio esto y tuvo misericordia; se compadeció de su pueblo por causa de su pacto con Abrahán, Isaac y Jacob, y no quiso destruirlos ni arrojarlos de su presencia, hasta el día de hoy.

24 A nd Hazael king of Aram dieth, and reign doth Ben-Hadad his son in his stead,

A la muerte del rey Jazael de Siria, reinó en su lugar su hijo Ben Adad.

25 a nd Jehoash son of Jehoahaz turneth and taketh the cities out of the hand of Ben-Hadad son of Hazael that he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father in war; three times hath Joash smitten him, and he bringeth back the cities of Israel.

Entonces Joás hijo de Joacaz retomó las ciudades que Jazael le había ganado en combate a Joacaz, su padre. Tres veces derrotó Joás a Ben Adad hijo de Jazael, y así recuperó las ciudades para Israel.
