1 P raise ye Jah, give thanks to Jehovah, For good, for to the age, His kindness.

¡Aleluya! ¡Alabemos al Señor, porque él es bueno, porque su misericordia permanece para siempre.

2 W ho doth utter the mighty acts of Jehovah? Soundeth all His praise?

¿Quién podrá contar las grandes obras del Señor? ¿Quién podrá cantar sus alabanzas?

3 O the happiness of those keeping judgment, Doing righteousness at all times.

¡Dichosos los que imparten justicia y siempre practican el derecho!

4 R emember me, O Jehovah, With the favour of Thy people, Look after me in Thy salvation.

Señor, acuérdate de mí cuando tu bondad alcance a tu pueblo; ¡ven a brindarme tu salvación!

5 T o look on the good of Thy chosen ones, To rejoice in the joy of Thy nation, To boast myself with Thine inheritance.

Déjame ver tu bondad hacia tus escogidos; déjame participar de la alegría de tu pueblo, y alabarte en compañía de los que son tuyos.

6 W e have sinned with our fathers, We have done perversely, we have done wickedly.

Somos tan pecadores como nuestros padres. Hemos hecho lo malo, hemos cometido maldad.

7 O ur fathers in Egypt, Have not considered wisely Thy wonders, They have not remembered The abundance of Thy kind acts, And provoke by the sea, at the sea of Suph.

En Egipto, nuestros padres no entendieron tus maravillas; no se acordaron de tu gran misericordia, y a orillas del Mar Rojo se rebelaron contra ti.

8 A nd He saveth them for His name's sake, To make known His might,

Pero tú, Señor, por tu gran amor los salvaste y diste a conocer tu gran poder.

9 A nd rebuketh the sea of Suph, and it is dried up, And causeth them to go Through depths as a wilderness.

Reprendiste al Mar Rojo, y éste se secó, y tu pueblo pasó por el mar como por un desierto.

10 A nd He saveth them from the hand Of him who is hating, And redeemeth them from the hand of the enemy.

Tú los salvaste del poder del enemigo; ¡los rescataste del poder de sus adversarios!

11 A nd waters cover their adversaries, One of them hath not been left.

El mar cubrió a sus perseguidores, y ninguno de ellos quedó con vida.

12 A nd they believe in His words, they sing His praise,

Entonces tu pueblo creyó en tu palabra, y con alegría te cantaron alabanzas.

13 T hey have hasted -- forgotten His works, They have not waited for His counsel.

Pero muy pronto olvidaron tus obras; no esperaron a conocer tus consejos.

14 A nd they lust greatly in a wilderness, And try God in a desert.

Allí, en la soledad del desierto, se entregaron al desenfreno y te pusieron a prueba.

15 A nd He giveth to them their request, And sendeth leanness into their soul.

Tú les diste lo que pidieron, pero les enviaste una enfermedad mortal.

16 A nd they are envious of Moses in the camp, Of Aaron, Jehovah's holy one.

En el campamento, sintieron envidia de Moisés y de Aarón, a quien tú consagraste a tu servicio.

17 E arth openeth, and swalloweth up Dathan, And covereth over the company of Abiram.

La tierra se abrió, y se tragó a Datán, y sepultó a la pandilla de Abirán.

18 A nd fire burneth among their company, A flame setteth on fire the wicked.

El fuego se extendió entre ellos, y los impíos fueron consumidos por las llamas.

19 T hey make a calf in Horeb, And bow themselves to a molten image,

En Horeb se hicieron un becerro de oro, y ante esa horrenda imagen se arrodillaron;

20 A nd change their Honour Into the form of an ox eating herbs.

¡cambiaron la gloria de Dios por la imagen de un buey que come hierba!

21 T hey have forgotten God their saviour, The doer of great things in Egypt,

Se olvidaron del Dios que los salvó; se olvidaron de sus grandes proezas en Egipto,

22 O f wonderful things in the land of Ham, Of fearful things by the sea of Suph.

de las maravillas que hizo en tierra de Cam y de su paso asombroso por el Mar Rojo.

23 A nd He saith to destroy them, Unless Moses, His chosen one, Had stood in the breach before Him, To turn back His wrath from destroying.

Dios llegó a pensar en destruirlos, pero Moisés, su escogido, se interpuso e impidió que, en su indignación, los destruyera.

24 A nd they kick against the desirable land, They have not given credence to His word.

Ellos despreciaron una tierra muy deseable, y no creyeron en las promesas de Dios.

25 A nd they murmur in their tents, They have not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah.

En sus tiendas hablaron mal del Señor, y se negaron a escuchar su voz.

26 A nd He lifteth up His hand to them, To cause them to fall in a wilderness,

Entonces Dios levantó su mano contra ellos y juró que los haría morir en el desierto,

27 A nd to cause their seed to fall among nations, And to scatter them through lands.

que los humillaría ante las naciones y los dispersaría por todos los países.

28 A nd they are coupled to Baal-Peor, And eat the sacrifices of the dead,

Pero el pueblo se sometió ante Baal Pegor, y participó de los sacrificios a un dios muerto.

29 A nd they provoke to anger by their actions, And a plague breaketh forth upon them,

Esto les acarreó la ira de Dios, y una plaga mortal cayó sobre ellos.

30 A nd Phinehas standeth, and executeth judgment, And the plague is restrained,

Pero Finés se interpuso y castigó al culpable, y entonces la plaga se detuvo.

31 A nd it is reckoned to him to righteousness, To all generations -- unto the age.

Dios tomó su acción como un acto de justicia, el cual permanece por siempre y para siempre.

32 A nd they cause wrath by the waters of Meribah, And it is evil to Moses for their sakes,

Junto a las aguas en Meriba irritaron al Señor, y por culpa de ellos le fue mal a Moisés,

33 F or they have provoked his spirit, And he speaketh wrongfully with his lips.

pues hicieron que su ánimo se exaltara, y que hablara con precipitación.

34 T hey have not destroyed the peoples, As Jehovah had said to them,

No destruyeron a los pueblos que el Señor les ordenó destruir,

35 A nd mix themselves among nations, and learn their works,

sino que se mezclaron con ellos y asimilaron sus malas costumbres;

36 A nd serve their idols, And they are to them for a snare.

rindieron culto a sus ídolos, y eso los llevó a la ruina;

37 A nd they sacrifice their sons And their daughters to destroyers,

ofrecieron a sus hijos y a sus hijas en sacrificio a esos demonios,

38 A nd they shed innocent blood -- Blood of their sons and of their daughters, Whom they have sacrificed to idols of Canaan, And the land is profaned with blood.

y así derramaron sangre inocente; sangre que fue ofrecida a los dioses de Canaán, sangre que dejó manchada la tierra.

39 A nd they are defiled with their works, And commit whoredom in their habitual doings.

Esos hechos los hicieron impuros, pues actuaron como un pueblo infiel.

40 A nd the anger of Jehovah Is kindled against His people, And He doth abominate His inheritance.

El Señor se enfureció contra su pueblo, y sintió repugnancia por los que eran suyos.

41 A nd giveth them into the hand of nations, And those hating them rule over them,

Los dejó caer en manos de los paganos, y fueron sometidos por quienes los odiaban.

42 A nd their enemies oppress them, And they are humbled under their hand.

Sus enemigos los oprimieron; los sometieron bajo su poder.

43 M any times He doth deliver them, And they rebel in their counsel, And they are brought low in their iniquity.

Muchas veces el Señor los libró, pero ellos optaron por ser rebeldes, y por su maldad fueron humillados.

44 A nd He looketh on their distress When He heareth their cry,

Al verlos Dios angustiados, y al escuchar su clamor,

45 A nd remembereth for them His covenant, And is comforted, According to the abundance of His kindness.

se acordaba de su pacto con ellos, y por su gran misericordia los volvía a perdonar

46 A nd He appointeth them for mercies Before all their captors.

y hacía que todos sus opresores les tuvieran compasión.

47 S ave us, O Jehovah our God, and gather us from the nations, To give thanks to Thy holy name, To glory in Thy praise.

Señor y Dios nuestro, ¡sálvanos! ¡haz que regresemos de entre las naciones para que alabemos tu santo nombre, y alegres te cantemos alabanzas!

48 B lessed Jehovah, God of Israel, From the age even unto the age. And all the people said, `Amen, praise Jah!'

¡Bendito seas Señor, Dios de Israel, desde siempre y hasta siempre! Que todo el pueblo diga: «¡Amén!» ¡Aleluya!
