1 A nd they came to the other side of the sea, to the region of the Gadarenes,

Llegaron al otro lado del lago, a la región de los gerasenos,

2 a nd he having come forth out of the boat, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

y en cuanto Jesús salió de la barca, se le acercó un hombre que tenía un espíritu impuro.

3 w ho had his dwelling in the tombs, and not even with chains was any one able to bind him,

Este hombre vivía entre los sepulcros, y nadie lo podía sujetar, ni siquiera con cadenas.

4 b ecause that he many times with fetters and chains had been bound, and pulled in pieces by him had been the chains, and the fetters broken in pieces, and none was able to tame him,

Muchas veces había sido sujetado con grilletes y cadenas, pero él rompía las cadenas y despedazaba los grilletes, de manera que nadie podía dominarlo.

5 a nd always, night and day, in the mountains, and in the tombs he was, crying and cutting himself with stones.

Este hombre andaba de día y de noche por los montes y los sepulcros, gritando y lastimándose con las piedras,

6 A nd, having seen Jesus from afar, he ran and bowed before him,

pero al ver a Jesús de lejos, corrió para arrodillarse delante de él,

7 a nd having called with a loud voice, he said, `What -- to me and to thee, Jesus, Son of God the Most High? I adjure thee by God, mayest thou not afflict me!'

y a voz en cuello le dijo: «Jesús, Hijo del Dios Altísimo, ¿qué tienes que ver conmigo? ¡Yo te ruego por Dios que no me atormentes!»

8 ( for he said to him, `Come forth, spirit unclean, out of the man,')

Y es que Jesús le había dicho: «Espíritu impuro, ¡deja a este hombre!»

9 a nd he was questioning him, `What thy name?' and he answered, saying, `Legion my name, because we are many;'

Jesús le preguntó: «¿Cómo te llamas?», y él respondió: «Me llamo Legión, porque somos muchos.»

10 a nd he was calling on him much, that he may not send them out of the region.

Y el hombre le rogaba e insistía que no los mandara lejos de aquella región.

11 A nd there was there, near the mountains, a great herd of swine feeding,

Cerca del monte pacía un gran hato de cerdos,

12 a nd all the demons did call upon him, saying, `Send us to the swine, that into them we may enter;'

y todos los demonios le rogaron: «¡Envíanos a los cerdos! ¡Déjanos entrar en ellos!»

13 a nd immediately Jesus gave them leave, and having come forth, the unclean spirits did enter into the swine, and the herd did rush down the steep place to the sea -- and they were about two thousand -- and they were choked in the sea.

Jesús se lo permitió. Y en cuanto los espíritus impuros salieron del hombre, entraron en los cerdos, que eran como dos mil, y el hato se lanzó al lago por un despeñadero, y allí se ahogaron.

14 A nd those feeding the swine did flee, and told in the city, and in the fields, and they came forth to see what it is that hath been done;

Los que cuidaban de los cerdos huyeron, y fueron a contar todo esto a la ciudad y por los campos. La gente salió a ver qué era lo que había sucedido,

15 a nd they come unto Jesus, and see the demoniac, sitting, and clothed, and right-minded -- him having had the legion -- and they were afraid;

y cuando llegaron a donde estaba Jesús, y vieron que el que había estado atormentado por la legión de demonios estaba sentado, vestido y en su sano juicio, tuvieron miedo.

16 a nd those having seen, declared to them how it had come to pass to the demoniac, and about the swine;

Luego, los que habían visto lo sucedido con el endemoniado y con los cerdos, se lo contaron a los demás,

17 a nd they began to call upon him to go away from their borders.

y comenzaron a rogarle a Jesús que se fuera de sus contornos.

18 A nd he having gone into the boat, the demoniac was calling on him that he may be with him,

Cuando Jesús abordó la barca, el que había estado endemoniado le rogó que lo dejara estar con él;

19 a nd Jesus did not suffer him, but saith to him, `Go away to thy house, unto thine own, and tell them how great things the Lord did to thee, and dealt kindly with thee;

pero Jesús, en vez de permitírselo, le dijo: «Vete a tu casa, con tu familia, y cuéntales las grandes cosas que el Señor ha hecho contigo. Cuéntales cómo ha tenido misericordia de ti.»

20 a nd he went away, and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how great things Jesus did to him, and all were wondering.

El hombre se fue, y en Decápolis comenzó a contar las grandes cosas que Jesús había hecho con él. Y todos se quedaban asombrados. La hija de Jairo, y la mujer que tocó el manto de Jesús

21 A nd Jesus having passed over in the boat again to the other side, there was gathered a great multitude to him, and he was near the sea,

Jesús regresó en una barca a la otra orilla, y como una gran multitud se reunió alrededor de él, decidió quedarse en la orilla del lago.

22 a nd lo, there doth come one of the chiefs of the synagogue, by name Jairus, and having seen him, he doth fall at his feet,

Entonces vino Jairo, que era uno de los jefes de la sinagoga, y cuando lo vio, se arrojó a sus pies

23 a nd he was calling upon him much, saying -- `My little daughter is at the last extremity -- that having come, thou mayest lay on her hands, so that she may be saved, and she shall live;'

y le rogó con mucha insistencia: «¡Ven que mi hija está agonizando! Pon tus manos sobre ella, para que sane y siga con vida.»

24 a nd he went away with him. And there was following him a great multitude, and they were thronging him,

Jesús se fue con él, y una gran multitud lo seguía y lo apretujaba.

25 a nd a certain woman, having an issue of blood twelve years,

Allí estaba una mujer que desde hacía doce años padecía de hemorragias

26 a nd many things having suffered under many physicians, and having spent all that she had, and having profited nothing, but rather having come to the worse,

y había sufrido mucho a manos de muchos médicos, pero que lejos de mejorar había gastado todo lo que tenía, sin ningún resultado.

27 h aving heard about Jesus, having come in the multitude behind, she touched his garment,

Cuando oyó hablar de Jesús, se le acercó por detrás, entre la gente, y le tocó el manto.

28 f or she said -- `If even his garments I may touch, I shall be saved;'

Y es que decía: «Si alcanzo a tocar aunque sea su manto, me sanaré.»

29 a nd immediately was the fountain of her blood dried up, and she knew in the body that she hath been healed of the plague.

Y tan pronto como tocó el manto de Jesús, su hemorragia se detuvo, por lo que sintió en su cuerpo que había quedado sana de esa enfermedad.

30 A nd immediately Jesus having known in himself that out of him power had gone forth, having turned about in the multitude, said, `Who did touch my garments?'

Jesús se dio cuenta enseguida de que de él había salido poder. Pero se volvió a la multitud y preguntó: «¿Quién ha tocado mis vestidos?»

31 a nd his disciples said to him, `Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and thou sayest, `Who did touch me!'

Sus discípulos le dijeron: «Estás viendo que la multitud te apretuja, y preguntas: “¿Quién me ha tocado?”»

32 A nd he was looking round to see her who did this,

Pero Jesús seguía mirando a su alrededor, para ver quién había hecho eso.

33 a nd the woman, having been afraid, and trembling, knowing what was done on her, came, and fell down before him, and told him all the truth,

Entonces la mujer, que sabía lo que en ella había ocurrido, con temor y temblor se acercó y, arrodillándose delante de él, le dijo toda la verdad.

34 a nd he said to her, `Daughter, thy faith hath saved thee; go away in peace, and be whole from thy plague.'

Jesús le dijo: «Hija, por tu fe has sido sanada. Ve en paz, y queda sana de tu enfermedad.»

35 A s he is yet speaking, there come from the chief of the synagogue's, saying -- `Thy daughter did die, why still dost thou harass the Teacher?'

Todavía estaba él hablando cuando de la casa del jefe de la sinagoga vinieron a decirle: «Ya no molestes al Maestro. Tu hija ha muerto.»

36 A nd Jesus immediately, having heard the word that is spoken, saith to the chief of the synagogue, `Be not afraid, only believe.'

Pero Jesús, que oyó lo que decían, le dijo al jefe de la sinagoga: «No temas. Sólo debes creer.»

37 A nd he did not suffer any one to follow with him, except Peter, and James, and John the brother of James;

Y con la excepción de Pedro, Jacobo y Juan, el hermano de Jacobo, no permitió que nadie más lo acompañara.

38 a nd he cometh to the house of the chief of the synagogue, and seeth a tumult, much weeping and wailing;

Cuando llegó a la casa del jefe de la sinagoga, vio mucho alboroto, y gente que lloraba y lamentaba.

39 a nd having gone in he saith to them, `Why do ye make a tumult, and weep? the child did not die, but doth sleep;

Al entrar, les dijo: «¿A qué viene tanto llanto y alboroto? La niña no está muerta, sino dormida.»

40 a nd they were laughing at him. And he, having put all forth, doth take the father of the child, and the mother, and those with him, and goeth in where the child is lying,

La gente se burlaba de él, pero él ordenó que todos salieran. Tomó luego al padre y a la madre de la niña, y a los que estaban con él, y entró adonde estaba la niña.

41 a nd, having taken the hand of the child, he saith to her, `Talitha cumi;' which is, being interpreted, `Damsel (I say to thee), arise.'

Jesús la tomó de la mano, y le dijo: «¡Talita cumi!», es decir, «A ti, niña, te digo: ¡levántate!»

42 A nd immediately the damsel arose, and was walking, for she was twelve years; and they were amazed with a great amazement,

Enseguida la niña, que tenía doce años, se levantó y comenzó a caminar. Y la gente se quedó llena de asombro.

43 a nd he charged them much, that no one may know this thing, and he said that there be given to her to eat.

Pero Jesús les insistió mucho que no dijeran a nadie lo que había ocurrido, y les mandó que dieran de comer a la niña.
