1 A nd a certain man, Ananias by name, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

Pero un hombre que se llamaba Ananías, junto con Safira, su mujer, vendió un terreno

2 a nd did keep back of the price -- his wife also knowing -- and having brought a certain part, at the feet of the apostles he laid.

y, con el consentimiento de ella, sustrajo algo del dinero que recibió; así que llevó sólo una parte y la entregó a los apóstoles.

3 A nd Peter said, `Ananias, wherefore did the Adversary fill thy heart, for thee to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back of the price of the place?

Entonces Pedro le dijo: «Ananías, ¿por qué le permitiste a Satanás que entrara en ti para mentirle al Espíritu Santo y sustraer parte de tu dinero?

4 w hile it remained, did it not remain thine? and having been sold, in thy authority was it not? why it that thou didst put in thy heart this thing? thou didst not lie to men, but to God;'

¿Acaso el terreno no era tuyo? Y, si lo vendías, ¿acaso no era tuyo el dinero? ¿Por qué decidiste hacer esto? No les has mentido a los hombres, sino a Dios.»

5 a nd Ananias hearing these words, having fallen down, did expire, and great fear came upon all who heard these things,

Al oír Ananías estas palabras, cayó muerto. Y a todos los que se enteraron les entró mucho miedo.

6 a nd having risen, the younger men wound him up, and having carried forth, they buried.

Entonces los jóvenes se levantaron, lo envolvieron, lo sacaron y lo sepultaron.

7 A nd it came to pass, about three hours after, that his wife, not knowing what hath happened, came in,

Como tres horas más tarde, entró su mujer sin saber lo que había sucedido.

8 a nd Peter answered her, `Tell me if for so much ye sold the place;' and she said, `Yes, for so much.'

Y Pedro le dijo: «Dime: ¿vendieron ustedes el terreno en ese precio?» Y ella respondió: «Sí, en ese precio.»

9 A nd Peter said unto her, `How was it agreed by you, to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? lo, the feet of those who did bury thy husband at the door, and they shall carry thee forth;'

Pedro le dijo entonces: «¿Por qué se pusieron de acuerdo para poner a prueba al Espíritu del Señor? ¡Mira!, aquí vienen los que fueron a sepultar a tu marido, y ellos te sacarán también a ti.»

10 a nd she fell down presently at his feet, and expired, and the young men having come in, found her dead, and having carried forth, they buried by her husband;

Al instante, ella cayó muerta a los pies de Pedro, y cuando entraron los jóvenes y la hallaron muerta, la sacaron y la sepultaron junto a su marido.

11 a nd great fear came upon all the assembly, and upon all who heard these things.

Esto hizo que toda la iglesia y todos los que supieron esto se llenaran de mucho miedo. Señales y maravillas en abundancia

12 A nd through the hands of the apostles came many signs and wonders among the people, and they were with one accord all in the porch of Solomon;

Dios hacía muchas señales y prodigios entre el pueblo por medio de los apóstoles, y todos ellos se reunían sin falta en el pórtico de Salomón.

13 a nd of the rest no one was daring to join himself to them, but the people were magnifying them,

Ninguno del pueblo se atrevía a juntarse con ellos, aunque el pueblo los elogiaba mucho.

14 ( and the more were believers added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women,)

Los hombres y mujeres que creían en el Señor iban aumentando en número,

15 s o as into the broad places to bring forth the ailing, and to lay upon couches and mats, that at the coming of Peter, even shadow might overshadow some one of them;

y en sus camas y lechos sacaban a los enfermos a la calle, para que al pasar Pedro por lo menos su sombra cayera sobre alguno de ellos.

16 a nd there were coming together also the people of the cities round about to Jerusalem, bearing ailing persons, and those harassed by unclean spirits -- who were all healed.

Aun de las ciudades vecinas venían muchos a Jerusalén, y traían a sus enfermos y a los atormentados por espíritus inmundos, y todos eran sanados. Pedro y Juan son perseguidos

17 A nd having risen, the chief priest, and all those with him -- being the sect of the Sadducees -- were filled with zeal,

El sumo sacerdote y todos los que estaban de su parte, es decir, los de la secta de los saduceos, reaccionaron llenos de celos

18 a nd laid their hands upon the apostles, and did put them in a public prison;

y aprehendieron a los apóstoles y los echaron a la cárcel del pueblo.

19 a nd a messenger of the Lord through the night opened the doors of the prison, having also brought them forth, he said,

Pero en la noche un ángel del Señor llegó y abrió las puertas de la cárcel. Cuando ellos salieron, el ángel les dijo:

20 ` Go on, and standing, speak in the temple to the people all the sayings of this life;'

«Vayan al templo y anuncien al pueblo todas las enseñanzas acerca de esta vida.»

21 a nd having heard, they did enter at the dawn into the temple, and were teaching. And the chief priest having come, and those with him, they called together the sanhedrim and all the senate of the sons of Israel, and they sent to the prison to have them brought,

Luego de oír esto, entraron en el templo por la mañana y se pusieron a enseñar. Mientras tanto, el sumo sacerdote y los que estaban de su parte se reunieron para convocar al concilio y a todos los ancianos del pueblo de Israel, y al mismo tiempo mandaron traer de la cárcel a los apóstoles;

22 a nd the officers having come, did not find them in the prison, and having turned back, they told,

pero como al llegar los alguaciles no los encontraron, regresaron y dijeron:

23 s aying -- `The prison indeed we found shut in all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors, and having opened -- within we found no one.'

«Cuando llegamos a la cárcel, ésta tenía todos los candados puestos y los guardias estaban afuera, frente a las puertas; pero al abrir la cárcel, vimos que allí adentro no había nadie.»

24 A nd as the priest, and the magistrate of the temple, and the chief priests, heard these words, they were doubting concerning them to what this would come;

Al oír esto, el sumo sacerdote, el jefe de la guardia del templo y los principales sacerdotes no lograban entender en qué pararía todo esto.

25 a nd coming near, a certain one told them, saying -- `Lo, the men whom ye did put in the prison are in the temple standing and teaching the people;'

Pero llegó otro y les dijo: «Escuchen: los hombres que ustedes metieron a la cárcel, están ahora en el templo, impartiendo enseñanzas al pueblo.»

26 t hen the magistrate having gone away with officers, brought them without violence, for they were fearing the people, lest they should be stoned;

Entonces el jefe de la guardia se fue con los alguaciles y los aprehendió, aunque sin violencia, porque temían que el pueblo los apedreara.

27 a nd having brought them, they set in the sanhedrim, and the chief priest questioned them,

Cuando los llevaron y los presentaron ante el concilio, el sumo sacerdote les dijo:

28 s aying, `Did not we strictly command you not to teach in this name? and lo, ye have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and ye intend to bring upon us the blood of this man.'

«¿Acaso no les dimos órdenes estrictas de no enseñar en ese nombre? Ahora han llenado a Jerusalén de su doctrina, y quieren culparnos de la muerte de ese hombre.»

29 A nd Peter and the apostles answering, said, `To obey God it behoveth, rather than men;

Pedro y los apóstoles respondieron: «Es necesario obedecer a Dios antes que a los hombres.

30 a nd the God of our fathers did raise up Jesus, whom ye slew, having hanged upon a tree;

El Dios de nuestros antepasados resucitó a Jesús, el mismo al que ustedes mataron y colgaron de un madero.

31 t his one God, a Prince and a Saviour, hath exalted with His right hand, to give reformation to Israel, and forgiveness of sins;

Pero Dios, por su poder, lo ha exaltado y sentado a su derecha como Príncipe y Salvador, dando a Israel la oportunidad de arrepentirse y de que sean perdonados sus pecados.

32 a nd we are His witnesses of these sayings, and the Holy Spirit also, whom God gave to those obeying him.'

De esto somos testigos nosotros, y también el Espíritu Santo, que Dios ha dado a quienes lo obedecen.»

33 A nd they having heard, were cut, and were taking counsel to slay them,

Al oír esto, ellos se enfurecieron tanto que querían matarlos.

34 b ut a certain one, having risen up in the sanhedrim -- a Pharisee, by name Gamaliel, a teacher of law honoured by all the people -- commanded to put the apostles forth a little,

Entonces Gamaliel, un fariseo que era doctor de la ley y a quien todo el pueblo respetaba, se levantó ante el concilio y ordenó que sacaran por un momento a los apóstoles;

35 a nd said unto them, `Men, Israelites, take heed to yourselves about these men, what ye are about to do,

luego dijo: «Varones israelitas, piensen bien en lo que van a hacer con estos hombres.

36 f or before these days rose up Theudas, saying, that himself was some one, to whom a number of men did join themselves, as it were four hundred, who was slain, and all, as many as were obeying him, were scattered, and came to nought.

Hace ya algún tiempo, se levantó Teudas, quien se jactaba de ser alguien, y logró que se le uniera un grupo como de cuatrocientos hombres; pero lo mataron, y todos los que lo seguían fueron dispersados y exterminados.

37 ` After this one rose up, Judas the Galilean, in the days of the enrollment, and drew away much people after him, and that one perished, and all, as many as were obeying him, were scattered;

Después, cuando se hizo el censo, se levantó Judas el galileo y logró que muchos del pueblo lo siguieran. Pero también lo mataron, y todos los que lo seguían fueron dispersados.

38 a nd now I say to you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone, because if this counsel or this work may be of men, it will be overthrown,

Por eso les digo ahora: Olvídense de estos hombres. Déjenlos. Porque si esto que hacen es de carácter humano, se desvanecerá;

39 a nd if it be of God, ye are not able to overthrow it, lest perhaps also ye be found fighting against God.'

pero si es de Dios, no lo podrán destruir. ¡No vaya a ser que ustedes se encuentren luchando contra Dios!» Todos estuvieron de acuerdo con él,

40 A nd to him they agreed, and having called near the apostles, having beaten, they commanded not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go;

así que llamaron a los apóstoles y, después de azotarlos, les advirtieron que no siguieran hablando en el nombre de Jesús y los pusieron en libertad.

41 t hey, indeed, then, departed from the presence of the sanhedrim, rejoicing that for his name they were counted worthy to suffer dishonour,

Los apóstoles salieron del concilio felices de haber sido dignos de sufrir por causa del Nombre.

42 e very day also in the temple, and in every house, they were not ceasing teaching and proclaiming good news -- Jesus the Christ.

Y todos los días, no dejaban de enseñar y de anunciar en el templo y por las casas las buenas noticias acerca de Cristo Jesús.
