1 T he burden that Habakkuk the prophet hath seen:

Profecía y visión del profeta Habacuc.

2 T ill when, O Jehovah, have I cried, And Thou dost not hear? I cry unto Thee -- `Violence,' and Thou dost not save.

¿Hasta cuándo, Señor, te llamaré y no me harás caso? ¿Hasta cuándo clamaré a ti por causa de la violencia, y no vendrás a salvarnos?

3 W hy dost Thou shew me iniquity, And perversity dost cause to behold? And spoiling and violence before me, And there is strife, and contention doth lift up,

¿Por qué permites que vea yo iniquidad? ¿Por qué me haces espectador del mal? ¡Sólo veo destrucción y violencia! ¡Ante mis ojos surgen pleitos y contiendas!

4 T herefore doth law cease, And judgment doth not go forth for ever, For the wicked is compassing the righteous, Therefore wrong judgment goeth forth.

Por eso tu ley carece de fuerza, y la justicia no se aplica con verdad. Por eso los impíos asedian a los justos, y se tuerce la justicia. Los caldeos, azote de Judá

5 L ook ye on nations, and behold and marvel greatly. For a work He is working in your days, Ye do not believe though it is declared.

«Miren entre las naciones, y vean, y asómbrense. Yo voy a hacer en sus días algo, a lo que ustedes no darán crédito, aunque se les cuente.

6 F or, lo, I am raising up the Chaldeans, The bitter and hasty nation, That is going to the broad places of earth, To occupy tabernacles not its own.

Estoy por hacer que vengan los caldeos, un pueblo cruel y tenaz que recorre toda la tierra para adueñarse de los territorios de otros pueblos.

7 T errible and fearful it, From itself its judgment and its excellency go forth.

Es un pueblo formidable y terrible, que por sí mismo decide lo que es justo y digno.

8 S wifter than leopards have been its horses, And sharper than evening wolves, And increased have its horsemen, Even its horsemen from afar come in, They fly as an eagle, hasting to consume.

Sus caballos son más ligeros que los leopardos y más feroces que los lobos nocturnos. Sus jinetes vienen de lejos, a galope tendido; vienen raudos como águilas, dispuestos a devorar,

9 W holly for violence it doth come in, Their faces swallowing up the east wind, And it doth gather as the sand a captivity.

¡y todos ellos caen sobre su presa! El terror los precede, y recogen cautivos como quien recoge arena.

10 A nd at kings it doth scoff, And princes a laughter to it, At every fenced place it doth laugh, And it heapeth up dust, and captureth it.

Se ríen de los reyes, se burlan de los príncipes; hacen mofa de toda fortaleza: construyen terraplenes y conquistan ciudades.

11 T hen passed on hath the spirit, Yea, he doth transgress, And doth ascribe this his power to his god.

Pasan con la fuerza de una tormenta, y esa fuerza la atribuyen a su dios.» Protesta de Habacuc

12 A rt not Thou of old, O Jehovah, my God, my Holy One? We do not die, O Jehovah, For judgment Thou hast appointed it, And, O Rock, for reproof Thou hast founded it.

Tú, Señor, eres un Dios santo. Tú existes desde el principio; ¡no nos dejes morir! Tú, Señor, eres nuestra Roca; ¡no hagas que este pueblo nos juzgue y nos castigue!

13 P urer of eyes than to behold evil, To look on perverseness Thou art not able, Why dost Thou behold the treacherous? Thou keepest silent when the wicked Doth swallow the more righteous than he,

Si por la pureza de tus ojos no soportas ver el mal ni los agravios, ¿por qué soportas ver a quienes nos desprecian? ¿Por qué callas cuando los impíos destruyen a quienes son más justos que ellos?

14 A nd Thou makest man as fishes of the sea, As a creeping thing -- none ruling over him.

¡Tratas a la gente como a los peces del mar, como a los insectos, que no tienen quien los gobierne!

15 E ach of them with a hook he hath brought up, He doth catch it in his net, and gathereth it in his drag, Therefore he doth joy and rejoice.

Los caldeos nos pescan a todos con anzuelos y nos recogen con sus redes. ¡Con gran alegría y regocijo nos amontonan en sus mallas!

16 T herefore he doth sacrifice to his net, And doth make perfume to his drag, For by them his portion fertile, and his food fat.

Luego ofrecen sacrificios a sus redes, y queman incienso a sus mallas, pues gracias a ellas aumentan sus riquezas y su fuente de alimentos.

17 D oth he therefore empty his net, And continually to slay nations spare not?

¡Pero ni así dejan de lanzar sus redes, ni se apiadan de las naciones, a las que siguen destruyendo sin cesar!
