1 A nd David speaketh to Jehovah the words of this song in the day Jehovah hath delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul,

David dedicó este cántico al Señor cuando el Señor lo libró de Saúl y de todos sus enemigos.

2 a nd he saith: `Jehovah my rock, And my bulwark, and a deliverer to me,

Éstas son sus palabras: «Señor, tú eres mi roca y mi fortaleza ¡eres mi libertador!

3 M y God my rock -- I take refuge in Him; My shield, and the horn of my salvation, My high tower, and my refuge! My Saviour, from violence Thou savest me!

Dios mío, tú eres mi fuerza; ¡en ti confío! Eres mi escudo, mi poderosa salvación, ¡mi alto refugio! Salvador mío, tú me salvas de la violencia.

4 T he Praised One, I call Jehovah: And from mine enemies I am saved.

Yo te invoco, Señor, porque sólo tú eres digno de alabanza; ¡tú me salvas de mis adversarios!

5 W hen the breakers of death compassed me, The streams of the worthless terrify me,

»Los lazos de la muerte me rodearon; ¡me arrolló un torrente de perversidad!

6 T he cords of Sheol have surrounded me, Before me have been the snares of death.

Los lazos del sepulcro me rodearon; ¡me vi ante las trampas de la muerte!

7 I n mine adversity I call Jehovah, And unto my God I call, And He heareth from His temple my voice, And my cry in His ears,

Pero en mi angustia, Señor, a ti clamé; a ti, mi Dios, pedi ayuda, y desde tu templo me escuchaste; ¡mis gemidos llegaron a tus oídos!

8 A nd shake and tremble doth the earth, Foundations of the heavens are troubled, And are shaken, for He hath wrath!

»La tierra tembló y se estremeció; los cimientos de los cielos se cimbraron; ¡se sacudieron por la indignación del Señor!

9 G one up hath smoke by His nostrils. And fire from His mouth devoureth, Brands have been kindled by it.

Humo salía de su nariz y de su boca brotaba fuego destructor; ¡su furor inflamaba los carbones!

10 A nd He inclineth heaven, and cometh down, And thick darkness under His feet.

Inclinó los cielos, y bajó; a sus pies había densas tinieblas.

11 A nd He rideth on a cherub, and doth fly, And is seen on the wings of the wind.

Montó sobre un querubín, y voló; ¡voló sobre las alas del viento!

12 A nd He setteth darkness Round about Him -- tabernacles, Darkness of waters -- thick clouds of the skies.

Se envolvió en un manto de sombras; entre grises nubes, cargadas de agua.

13 F rom the brightness before Him Were brands of fire kindled!

¡De su deslumbrante presencia salieron ardientes ascuas que cruzaron las nubes!

14 T hunder from the heavens doth Jehovah, And the Most High giveth forth His voice.

»El Señor lanzó un poderoso trueno; el Altísimo dejó escuchar su voz.

15 A nd He sendeth forth arrows, And scattereth them; Lightning, and troubleth them;

Lanzó sus flechas, y los dispersó; ¡lanzó relámpagos, y acabó con ellos!

16 A nd seen are the streams of the sea, Revealed are foundations of the world, By the rebuke of Jehovah, From the breath of the spirit of His anger.

El Señor dejó oír su reprensión, ¡y a la vista quedó el fondo de las aguas! De su nariz salió un intenso soplo, ¡y a la vista quedaron los cimientos del mundo!

17 H e sendeth from above -- He taketh me, He draweth me out of many waters.

»Desde lo alto el Señor me tendió la mano y me rescató de las aguas tumultuosas;

18 H e delivereth me from my strong enemy, From those hating me, For they were stronger than I.

¡me libró de los poderosos enemigos que me odiaban y eran más fuertes que yo!

19 T hey are before me in a day of my calamity, And Jehovah is my support,

Me atacaron en el día de mi desgracia, pero el Señor me dio su apoyo;

20 A nd He bringeth me out to a large place, He draweth me out for He delighted in me.

me llevó a un terreno espacioso, y me salvó, porque se agradó de mí.

21 J ehovah recompenseth me, According to my righteousness, According to the cleanness of my hands, He doth return to me.

El Señor me premió porque soy justo; ¡porque mis manos están limpias de culpa!

22 F or I have kept the ways of Jehovah, And have not done wickedly against my God.

»Yo he seguido los caminos del Señor, y ningún mal he cometido contra mi Dios.

23 F or all His judgments before me, As to His statutes, I turn not from them.

Tengo presentes todos sus decretos, y no me he apartado de sus estatutos.

24 A nd I am perfect before Him, And I keep myself from mine iniquity.

Con él me he conducido rectamente, y me he alejado de la maldad;

25 A nd Jehovah returneth to me, According to my righteousness, According to my cleanness before His eyes.

el Señor ha visto la limpieza de mis manos, y por eso ha recompensado mi justicia.

26 W ith the kind Thou shewest Thyself kind, With the perfect man Thou shewest Thyself perfect,

»Señor, tú eres fiel con el que es fiel, e intachable con el que es intachable.

27 W ith the pure Thou shewest Thyself pure, And with the perverse Thou shewest Thyself a wrestler.

Juegas limpio con quien juega limpio, pero al tramposo le ganas en astucia.

28 A nd the poor people Thou dost save, And Thine eyes on the high causest to fall.

Tú salvas a los humildes, pero humillas a los soberbios.

29 F or Thou my lamp, O Jehovah, And Jehovah doth lighten my darkness.

Señor, mi Dios, tú mantienes mi lámpara encendida; ¡tú eres la luz de mis tinieblas!

30 F or by Thee I run -- a troop, By my God I leap a wall.

¡Con tu ayuda, mi Dios, puedo vencer ejércitos y derribar murallas!

31 G od! Perfect His way, The saying of Jehovah is tried, A shield He to all those trusting in Him.

»El camino de Dios es perfecto; la palabra del Señor, acrisolada; Dios es el escudo de los que en él confían.

32 F or who is God save Jehovah? And who a Rock save our God?

¡Aparte del Señor, no hay otro Dios! ¡Aparte de nuestro Dios, no hay otra Roca!

33 G od -- my bulwark, strength, And He maketh perfect my way;

Dios es quien me infunde fuerzas; Dios es quien endereza mi camino;

34 M aking my feet like hinds, And on my high places causeth me to stand,

Dios es quien me aligera los pies, y me hace correr como un venado. Dios es quien me afirma en las alturas;

35 T eaching my hands for battle, And brought down was a bow of brass by mine arms,

Dios adiestra mis manos para el combate, y me da fuerzas para tensar el arco de bronce.

36 A nd Thou givest to me the shield of Thy salvation, And Thy lowliness maketh me great.

»Tú me diste el escudo de tu salvación, y con tu bondad me engrandeciste.

37 T hou enlargest my step under me, And mine ankles have not slidden.

Me pusiste sobre un terreno espacioso, para que mis pies no resbalaran.

38 I pursue mine enemies and destroy them, And I turn not till they are consumed.

Así pude perseguir y alcanzar a mis adversarios, ¡y no volví hasta haberlos exterminado!

39 A nd I consume them, and smite them, And they rise not, and fall under my feet.

Los herí, y ya no se levantaron; ¡quedaron tendidos debajo de mis pies!

40 A nd Thou girdest me strength for battle, Thou causest my withstanders to bow under me.

»Tú me infundiste fuerzas para la batalla, para vencer y humillar a mis adversarios.

41 A nd mine enemies -- Thou givest to me the neck, Those hating me -- and I cut them off.

Tú los hiciste ponerse en retirada, y así acabé con los que me odiaban.

42 T hey look, and there is no saviour; Unto Jehovah, and He hath not answered them.

Clamaron a ti, Señor, pero no los atendiste; ¡no hubo nadie que los ayudara!

43 A nd I beat them as dust of the earth, As mire of the streets I beat them small -- I spread them out!

Los hice polvo, los deshice como a terrones; ¡los pisoteé como al lodo en las calles!

44 A nd -- Thou dost deliver me From the strivings of my people, Thou placest me for a head of nations; A people I have not known do serve me.

Tú me libraste de un pueblo rebelde, y me pusiste al frente de las naciones. Gente que yo no conocía, viene a servirme;

45 S ons of a stranger feign obedience to me, At the hearing of the ear they hearken to me.

gente extraña me rinde homenaje; ¡apenas me escuchan, me obedecen!

46 S ons of a stranger fade away, And gird themselves by their close places.

¡Gente de otros pueblos se llena de miedo y sale temblando de sus escondites!

47 J ehovah liveth, and blessed my Rock, And exalted is my God -- The Rock of my salvation.

»¡Viva el Señor! ¡Bendita sea mi roca! ¡Exaltado sea el Dios de mi salvación!

48 G od -- who is giving vengeance to me, And bringing down peoples under me,

Es el Dios que vindica mis agravios y somete a las naciones bajo mis pies.

49 A nd bringing me forth from mine enemies, Yea, above my withstanders Thou raisest me up. From a man of violence Thou deliverest me.

Es el Dios que me libra de mis adversarios, que me eleva por encima de mis oponentes, ¡que me pone a salvo de los violentos!

50 T herefore I confess Thee, O Jehovah, among nations. And to Thy name I sing praise.

Por eso alabo al Señor entre los pueblos, y canto salmos a su nombre.

51 M agnifying the salvations of His king, And doing loving-kindness to His anointed, To David, and to his seed -- unto the age!'

El Señor da la victoria al rey; siempre es misericordioso con su ungido, con David y con sus descendientes.»
