1 A nd it cometh to pass, at the king Hezekiah's hearing, that he rendeth his garments, and covereth himself with sackcloth, and entereth the house of Jehovah,

Cuando el rey Ezequías oyó esto, se rasgó los vestidos y, cubierto de cilicio, fue a la casa del Señor.

2 a nd sendeth Eliakim, who over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covering themselves with sackcloth, unto Isaiah son of Amoz the prophet,

Luego envió, también cubiertos de cilicio, al mayordomo Eliaquín, al escriba Sebna y a los ancianos de los sacerdotes, para que hablaran con el profeta Isaías hijo de Amoz

3 a nd they say unto him, `Thus said Hezekiah, A day of distress, and rebuke, and despising, this day; for come have sons unto the birth, and power there is not to bear.

y le dijeran de su parte: «Hoy es un día de angustia, de reprensión y de blasfemia, porque ha llegado la hora de dar a luz, y la parturienta no tiene fuerzas.

4 ` It may be Jehovah thy God doth hear the words of Rabshakeh with which the king of Asshur his lord hath sent him to reproach the living God, and hath decided concerning the words that Jehovah thy God hath heard, and thou hast lifted up prayer for the remnant that is found.'

Tal vez el Señor tu Dios habrá oído las palabras del primer oficial, que su señor, el rey de Asiria, envió para blasfemar contra el Dios vivo, tu Señor y Dios, y para ofenderlo con sus palabras. Eleva, pues, una oración por el remanente que todavía queda.»

5 A nd the servants of king Hezekiah come in unto Isaiah,

Los siervos de Ezequías fueron a hablar con Isaías,

6 a nd Isaiah saith unto them, `Thus do ye say unto your lord, Thus said Jehovah, Be not afraid because of the words that thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Asshur have reviled Me.

y éste les dijo: «Digan a su señor el rey que así ha dicho Dios nuestro Señor: “No tengas miedo por las palabras que has oído, y con las cuales los siervos del rey de Asiria han blasfemado contra mí.

7 L o, I am giving in him a spirit, and he hath heard a report, and hath turned back unto his land, and I have caused him to fall by the sword in his land.'

Yo voy a poner un espíritu en él, y haré que oiga un rumor y regrese a su país. Cuando llegue a su país, haré que muera a filo de espada.”»

8 A nd Rabshakeh turneth back and findeth the king of Asshur fighting against Libnah, for he hath heard that he hath journeyed from Lachish.

El primer oficial se enteró de que el rey de Asiria se había apartado de Laquis. Entonces volvió a su país y se encontró con que el rey estaba combatiendo contra Libna.

9 A nd he heareth concerning Tirhakah king of Cush, saying, `He hath come out to fight with thee;' and he heareth, and sendeth messengers unto Hezekiah, saying,

Cuando se enteró de que Tiracá, el rey de Etiopía, había salido a combatirlo, envió embajadores a Ezequías con este mensaje:

10 ` Thus do ye speak unto Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God lift thee up in whom thou art trusting, saying, Jerusalem is not given into the hand of the king of Asshur.

«Digan a Ezequías, rey de Judá: “No te dejes engañar por tu Dios, en quien confías, ni creas que Jerusalén no caerá en manos del rey de Asiria.

11 L o, thou hast heard that which the kings of Asshur have done to all the lands -- to devote them -- and thou art delivered!

Tú bien sabes lo que han hecho los reyes de Asiria a todos los países que han destruido. ¿Acaso crees que tú te librarás?

12 D id the gods of the nations deliver them whom my fathers destroyed -- Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the sons of Eden, who in Telassar?

¿Acaso los dioses de esas naciones que destruyeron mis antepasados libraron a Gozán, Jarán, Resef y a los hijos de Edén que habitaban en Telasar?

13 W here the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah?'

¿Dónde están ahora los reyes de Jamat y de Arfad, y el rey de las ciudades de Sefarvayin, Hena y Guivá?”»

14 A nd Hezekiah taketh the letters out of the hand of the messengers, and readeth them, and Hezekiah goeth up to the house of Jehovah, and Hezekiah spreadeth it before Jehovah.

Ezequías recibió las cartas de mano de los embajadores, y las leyó; luego subió a la casa del Señor y extendió las cartas ante el Señor,

15 A nd Hezekiah prayeth unto Jehovah, saying,

y elevó esta oración al Señor:

16 ` Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, inhabiting the cherubs, Thou God Himself -- Thyself alone -- to all kingdoms of the earth, Thou hast made the heavens and the earth.

«Señor de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, que habitas entre los querubines: sólo tú eres Dios de todos los reinos de la tierra, pues tú hiciste los cielos y la tierra.

17 I ncline, O Jehovah, Thine ear, and hear; open, O Jehovah, Thine eyes and see; and hear Thou all the words of Sennacherib that he hath sent to reproach the living God.

Inclina, Señor, tu oído, y oye; abre, Señor, tus ojos, y mira; oye todas las blasfemias que contra ti, el Dios viviente, ha mandado proferir Senaquerib.

18 ` Truly, O Jehovah, kings of Asshur have laid waste all the lands and their land,

Ciertamente, Señor, los reyes de Asiria destruyeron todos los países y sus comarcas,

19 s o as to put their gods into fire -- for they no gods, but work of the hands of man, wood and stone -- and they destroy them.

y echaron al fuego los dioses de ellos, dioses que en realidad no eran dioses sino hechuras humanas de madera y piedra; ¡por eso los destruyeron!

20 A nd now, Jehovah our God, save us from his hand, and all kingdoms of the earth do know that Thou Jehovah, Thyself alone.'

Señor y Dios nuestro, líbranos ahora de caer en sus manos, para que todos los reinos de la tierra sepan que sólo tú eres el Señor.»

21 A nd Isaiah son of Amoz sendeth unto Hezekiah, saying, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed unto me concerning Sennacherib king of Asshur --

Entonces Isaías hijo de Amoz mandó que dijeran a Ezequías: «Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel en cuanto a tus ruegos acerca de Senaquerib, el rey de Asiria.

22 t his the word that Jehovah spake concerning him: Trampled on thee, laughed at thee, Hath the virgin daughter of Zion, Behind thee shaken the head hath the daughter of Jerusalem.

Yo, el Señor, le digo a ese rey: “La virginal hija de Sión te menosprecia y te escarnece. A tus espaldas mueve la cabeza la hija de Jerusalén.”

23 W hom hast thou reproached and reviled? And against whom lifted up the voice? Yea, thou dost lift up on high thine eyes Against the Holy One of Israel.

»¿A quién vituperaste? ¿Contra quién has blasfemado? ¿Contra quién has levantado la voz, y puesto en alto los ojos? ¡Contra el Santo de Israel!

24 B y the hand of thy servants Thou hast reviled the Lord, and sayest: In the multitude of my chariots I have come up to a high place of hills, The sides of Lebanon, And I cut down the height of its cedars, The choice of its firs, And I enter the high place of its extremity, The forest of its Carmel.

Por medio de tus siervos me has vituperado, al decir: “Con la multitud de mis carros subiré a las alturas de los montes y a las laderas del Líbano; derribaré sus altos cedros y sus mejores cipreses; llegaré hasta sus cumbres más elevadas y sus bosques más tupidos.

25 I -- I have dug and drunk waters, And I dry up with the sole of my steps All floods of a bulwark.

Yo he cavado pozos, y he bebido de sus aguas; con mis pies he pisoteado y secado todos los ríos de Egipto.”

26 H ast thou not heard from afar? -- it I did, From days of old -- that I formed it. Now, I have brought it in, And it is to make desolate, Ruinous heaps -- fenced cities,

»¿No has oído hablar de lo que yo hice desde los tiempos antiguos, ni de los planes que desde los días más remotos tengo pensado realizar? Pues ahora voy a realizarlos, y tú habrás de reducir las ciudades fortificadas a montones de escombros.

27 A nd their inhabitants are feeble-handed, They were broken down, and are dried up. They have been the herb of the field, And the greenness of the tender grass, Grass of the roofs, And blasted corn, before it hath risen up.

Sus habitantes, despojados de su poder, quedarán confusos y aterrorizados; serán como la hierba del campo y las verdes hortalizas; ¡serán como la paja sobre los techos, que antes de tiempo se seca!

28 A nd thy sitting down, and thy going out, And thy coming in, I have known, And thy anger towards Me.

»Yo conozco tu condición. Sé cuándo entras y cuándo sales, y sé también de tu furor contra mí.

29 B ecause of thy anger towards Me, And thy noise -- it came up into Mine ears, I have put My hook in thy nose, And My bridle in thy lips, And I have caused thee to turn back In the way in which thou camest.

Grande es tu furia contra mí. Estoy enterado de tu arrogancia. Por eso te pondré un gancho en la nariz, y un freno en los labios, y haré que regreses por el mismo camino por donde viniste.

30 - - And this to thee the sign, Food of the year self-sown grain, And in the second year the spontaneous growth, And in the third year, sow ye and reap, And plant vineyards, and eat their fruit.

»Y esto te servirá de señal: Este año y el siguiente comerán ustedes de lo que crezca por sí mismo, pero al tercer año ya podrán sembrar y segar, y plantarán viñas y comerán sus uvas.

31 A nd it hath continued -- the escaped Of the house of Judah that hath been left -- To take root beneath, And it hath made fruit upward.

Los habitantes de Judá que logren escapar y queden con vida volverán a echar raíces y a ser productivos.»

32 F or from Jerusalem goeth forth a remnant, And an escape from mount Zion, The zeal of Jehovah of Hosts doth this.

Ciertamente, de Jerusalén y del monte Sión saldrá un remanente que se salvará. Esto lo hará posible el gran amor del Señor de los ejércitos.

33 T herefore, thus said Jehovah, Concerning the king of Asshur: He doth not come in unto this city, Nor doth he shoot there an arrow, Nor doth he come before it shield, Nor doth he pour out against it a mount.

Por lo tanto, así dice el Señor: «El rey de Asiria no entrará en esta ciudad, ni lanzará contra ella una sola flecha; tampoco avanzará contra ella con sus escudos, ni levantará contra ella ningún baluarte.

34 I n the way that he came, in it he turneth back, And unto this city he doth not come in, An affirmation of Jehovah,

Por el mismo camino por el que vino, tendrá que volver. ¡No entrará en esta ciudad! —Palabra del Señor.

35 A nd I have covered over this city, To save it, for Mine own sake, And for the sake of David My servant.'

»Yo ampararé a esta ciudad y la pondré a salvo. Lo haré por mí mismo y por mi siervo David.»

36 A nd a messenger of Jehovah goeth out, and smiteth in the camp of Asshur a hundred and eighty and five thousand; and rise early in the morning, and lo, all of them dead corpses.

El ángel del Señor salió entonces y mató a ciento ochenta y cinco mil hombres en el campamento de los asirios. Y al día siguiente, cuando se levantaron, todo el campamento estaba cubierto de cadáveres.

37 A nd journey, and go, and turn back doth Sennacherib king of Asshur, and dwelleth in Nineveh.

Entonces Senaquerib, el rey de Asiria, se fue de allí y se quedó a vivir en Nínive.

38 A nd it cometh to pass, he is bowing himself in the house of Nisroch his god, and Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons have smitten him with the sword, and they have escaped to the land of Ararat, and Esar-Haddon his son reigneth in his stead.

Pero sucedió que, mientras él adoraba en el templo de su dios Nisroc, sus hijos Adramelec y Sarezer lo mataron; le clavaron una espada, y luego huyeron a la tierra de Ararat. En su lugar reinó su hijo Esarjadón.
