1 I n those days hath Hezekiah been sick unto death, and come in unto him doth Isaiah son of Amoz, the prophet, and saith unto him, `Thus said Jehovah: Give a charge to thy house, for thou dying, and dost not live.'

Por esos días, Ezequías cayó gravemente enfermo. Entonces el profeta Isaías hijo de Amoz fue a visitarlo y le dijo: «Así dice el Señor: “Ordena tu casa, porque de esta enfermedad no saldrás con vida.”»

2 A nd Hezekiah turneth round his face unto the wall, and prayeth unto Jehovah,

Ezequías se volvió hacia la pared, y oró al Señor.

3 a nd saith, `I pray thee, O Jehovah, remember, I pray Thee, how I have walked habitually before Thee in truth, and with a perfect heart, and that which good in thine eyes I have done;' and Hezekiah weepeth -- a great weeping.

Con lágrimas en los ojos le dijo: «Señor, recuerda por favor que me he conducido ante ti con verdad y con un corazón sincero, y que siempre he hecho lo que te agrada y apruebas.»

4 A nd a word of Jehovah is unto Isaiah, saying,

Entonces el Señor le habló a Isaías y le dijo:

5 G o, and thou hast said to Hezekiah, Thus said Jehovah, God of David thy father, `I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tear, lo, I am adding to thy days fifteen years,

«Ve y dile de mi parte a Ezequías: “Yo soy el Señor, el Dios de tu padre David. Ya he escuchado tu oración, y he visto tus lágrimas. Voy a añadirte quince años más de vida.

6 a nd out of the hand of the king of Asshur I deliver thee and this city, and have covered over this city.

Yo te libraré de caer en las manos del rey de Asiria, y a esta ciudad la protegeré.

7 A nd this to thee the sign from Jehovah, that Jehovah doth this thing that He hath spoken.

Y esto te servirá de señal de que yo, el Señor, haré todo esto que he dicho:

8 L o, I am bringing back the shadow of the degrees that it hath gone down on the degrees of Ahaz, by the sun, backward ten degrees:' and the sun turneth back ten degrees in the degrees that it had gone down.

Yo haré que en el reloj de sol de Ajaz la sombra retroceda los diez grados que ya ha bajado.”» Y, en efecto, la sombra retrocedió los diez grados que ya había bajado.

9 A writing of Hezekiah king of Judah concerning his being sick, when he reviveth from his sickness:

Esto es lo que escribió Ezequías, rey de Judá, cuando cayó enfermo y sanó de su enfermedad:

10 ` I -- I said in the cutting off of my days, I go in to the gates of Sheol, I have numbered the remnant of mine years.

«Yo creía que a la mitad de mis días bajaría a las puertas del sepulcro, y que no viviría el resto de mis años.

11 I said, I do not see Jah -- Jah! In the land of the living, I do not behold man any more, With the inhabitants of the world.

Yo creía que ya no vería al Señor en la tierra de los vivientes; que ya no volvería a ver a los que habitan este mundo;

12 M y sojourning hath departed, And been removed from me as a shepherd's tent, I have drawn together, as a weaver, my life, By weakness it cutteth me off, From day unto night Thou dost end me.

que mi casa había sido removida, como cuando se levanta la tienda de un pastor. ¡Como un tejedor, recorté mi vida, y Dios me la acortó con la enfermedad! ¡En un solo día acabó conmigo!

13 I have set till morning as a lion, So doth He break all my bones, From day unto night Thou dost end me.

Esperé hasta el amanecer, pero con la furia de un león él me molió todos los huesos; ¡en un solo día acabó conmigo!

14 A s a crane -- a swallow -- so I chatter, I mourn as a dove, Drawn up have been mine eyes on high, O Jehovah, oppression on me, be my surety.

»Yo me quejaba como una grulla; gemía como una golondrina; levantaba los ojos al cielo, como una paloma: “Señor, soy víctima de la violencia; ¡dame fuerzas!”

15 - - What do I say? seeing He said to me, And He Himself hath wrought, I go softly all my years for the bitterness of my soul.

¿Y qué puedo decir, si esto lo ha hecho el mismo que me lo dijo? Toda mi vida andaré humildemente, por causa de la amargura que siento en el alma.

16 L ord, by these do live, And by all in them the life of my spirit, And Thou savest me, make me also to live,

»Señor, todo esto nos hace vivir, y en todo esto halla vida mi espíritu: ¡tú me restablecerás y me prolongarás la vida!

17 L o, to peace He changed for me bitterness, And Thou hast delighted in my soul without corruption, For Thou hast cast behind Thy back all my sins.

¡Mira la gran amargura que me sobrevino cuando yo vivía en paz! Pero a ti te agradó librarme de la corrupción del sepulcro, porque les diste la espalda a todos mis pecados.

18 F or Sheol doth not confess Thee, Death doth not praise Thee, Those going down to the pit hope not for Thy truth.

Y es que el reino de la muerte no te exalta, ni te alaba la muerte; tampoco los que bajan al sepulcro esperan tu verdad.

19 T he living, the living, he doth confess Thee.

Sólo te alaban los que viven, como hoy vivo yo. Esta verdad la enseñarán los padres a sus hijos.

20 L ike myself to-day -- a father to sons Doth make known of Thy faithfulness, O Jehovah -- to save me: And my songs we sing all days of our lives In the house of Jehovah.'

¡El Señor me salvará! ¡Por eso todos los días de nuestra vida elevaremos nuestros cánticos en la casa del Señor!»

21 A nd Isaiah saith, `Let them take a bunch of figs, and plaster over the ulcer, and he liveth.'

Antes Isaías había dicho: «Hagan una pasta de higos, y póngansela en la llaga; así sanará.»

22 A nd Hezekiah saith, `What the sign that I go up to the house of Jehovah!'

Por su parte, Ezequías había dicho: «¿Qué señal recibiré de que podré subir a la casa del Señor?»
