1 A nd it cometh to pass, after the death of Saul, that David hath returned from smiting the Amalekite, and David dwelleth in Ziklag two days,

David volvió de haber derrotado a los amalecitas y se quedó dos días en Siclag. Esto sucedió después de la muerte de Saúl.

2 a nd it cometh to pass, on the third day, that lo, a man hath come in out of the camp from Saul, and his garments rent, and earth on his head; and it cometh to pass, in his coming in unto David, that he falleth to the earth, and doth obeisance.

Al tercer día, llegó un soldado que venía del campamento de Saúl. Iba con los vestidos desgarrados y la cabeza llena de tierra. Al ver a David, se arrodilló hasta el suelo e hizo una reverencia.

3 A nd David saith to him, `Whence comest thou?' and he saith unto him, `Out of the camp of Israel I have escaped.'

Y David le preguntó: «¿De dónde vienes?» Y aquel soldado respondió: «Vengo del campamento de Israel, de donde me escapé.»

4 A nd David saith unto him, `What hath been the matter? declare, I pray thee, to me.' And he saith, that `The people hath fled from the battle, and also a multitude hath fallen of the people, and they die; and also Saul and Jonathan his son have died.'

David le preguntó entonces: «¿Qué ha pasado? Te ruego que me lo digas.» Y el soldado respondió: «El ejército israelita fue vencido, y huyó. Muchos soldados cayeron muertos, y entre ellos estaban Saúl y su hijo Jonatán.»

5 A nd David saith unto the youth who is declaring to him, `How hast thou known that Saul and Jonathan his son dead?'

Y David volvió a preguntar: «¿Y cómo sabes que murieron Saúl y Jonatán?»

6 A nd the youth who is declaring to him saith, I happened to meet in mount Gilboa, and lo, Saul is leaning on his spear; and lo, the chariots and those possessing horses have followed him;

El soldado respondió: «Por casualidad fui al monte Gilboa, y allí vi a Saúl apoyado sobre la punta de su espada, dispuesto a matarse. También vi que se acercaban carros de guerra y gente de caballería, que venían persiguiéndolo.

7 a nd he turneth behind him, and seeth me, and calleth unto me, and I say, Here I.

Cuando él volvió la vista, me vio y me llamó. Yo me acerqué,

8 A nd he saith to me, Who thou? and I say unto him, An Amalekite I.'

y él me preguntó quién era yo, y le respondí que era amalecita.

9 ` And he saith unto me, Stand, I pray thee, over me, and put me to death, for seized me hath the arrow, for all my soul still in me.

Entonces él me dijo: “Te ruego que me mates, porque siento que me domina una gran angustia.”

10 A nd I stand over him, and put him to death, for I knew that he doth not live after his falling, and I take the crown which on his head, and the bracelet which on his arm, and bring them in unto my lord hither.'

Yo me acerqué y le ayudé a bien morir, porque me di cuenta que ya no viviría después de esas heridas; luego le quité la corona y el brazalete que llevaba en el brazo, para traértelas a ti, mi señor.»

11 A nd David taketh hold on his garments, and rendeth them, and also all the men who with him,

Entonces David se rasgó la ropa, y lo mismo hicieron los hombres que lo acompañaban.

12 a nd they mourn, and weep, and fast till the evening, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of Jehovah, and for the house of Israel, because they have fallen by the sword.

Y todos lloraron y lamentaron lo sucedido a Saúl y Jonatán, y ayunaron hasta el anochecer por ellos y por la derrota de Israel, pueblo de Dios.

13 A nd David saith unto the youth who is declaring to him, `Whence thou?' and he saith, `Son of a sojourner, an Amalekite, I.'

Luego, David le preguntó al soldado que le había llevado las noticias: «¿Tú de dónde eres?» Y aquél respondió: «Soy amalecita, hijo de un extranjero.»

14 A nd David saith unto him, `How wast thou not afraid to put forth thy hand to destroy the anointed of Jehovah?'

Y David le dijo: «¿Y cómo es que no tuviste miedo de usar tu fuerza para matar al ungido del Señor?»

15 A nd David calleth to one of the youths, and saith, `Draw nigh -- fall upon him;' and he smiteth him, and he dieth;

Dicho esto, le ordenó a uno de sus soldados: «Ven y mátalo.» Y el soldado fue y lo mató,

16 a nd David saith unto him, `Thy blood on thine own head, for thy mouth hath testified against thee, saying, I -- I put to death the anointed of Jehovah.'

mientras David decía: «Tú eres el culpable de tu propia muerte, pues confesaste haber matado al ungido del Señor.» Lamento de David por Saúl y Jonatán

17 A nd David lamenteth with this lamentation over Saul, and over Jonathan his son;

Y David entonó este lamento en memoria de Saúl y Jonatán,

18 a nd he saith to teach the sons of Judah `The Bow;' lo, it is written on the book of the Upright: --

y ordenó que lo aprendieran los descendientes de Judá. Este lamento se halla escrito en el libro de Jaser.

19 ` The Roebuck, O Israel, On thy high places wounded; How have the mighty fallen!

¡Cómo han perecido los valientes! ¡Tu gloria, Israel, ha perecido en las montañas!

20 D eclare not in Gath, Proclaim not the tidings in the streets of Ashkelon, Lest they rejoice -- The daughters of the Philistines, Lest they exult -- The daughters of the Uncircumcised!

¡Que no lo sepan en Gat, ni lo anuncien en las plazas de Ascalón! ¡Que no se alegren las filisteas, ni salten de gozo las hijas de incircuncisos!

21 M ountains of Gilboa! No dew nor rain be on you, And fields of heave-offerings! For there hath become loathsome The shield of the mighty, The shield of Saul -- without the anointed with oil.

¡Que no caiga sobre ustedes, montes de Gilboa, ni rocío ni lluvias que fertilicen tus campos! Porque allí cayó el valiente Saúl con su escudo, como si no hubiera sido ungido como rey.

22 F rom the blood of the wounded, From the fat of the mighty, The bow of Jonathan Hath not turned backward; And the sword of Saul doth not return empty.

Nunca Jonatán retrocedió con su arco, ni Saúl con su espada rehuyó el ataque.

23 S aul and Jonathan! They are loved and pleasant in their lives, And in their death they have not been parted. Than eagles they have been lighter, Than lions they have been mightier!

¡Querido Saúl! ¡Amado Jonatán! ¡Inseparables en su vida; unidos en su muerte! ¡Eran más ligeros que las águilas y más fuertes que los leones!

24 D aughters of Israel! for Saul weep ye, Who is clothing you scarlet with delights. Who is lifting up ornaments of gold on your clothing.

¡Lloren por Saúl, mujeres de Israel! ¡Él las cubría con finos vestidos de escarlata, y las adornaba con joyas de oro!

25 H ow have the mighty fallen In the midst of the battle! Jonathan! on thy high places wounded!

¡Cómo han perecido los valientes en batalla! ¡Murió Jonatán en las altas montañas!

26 I am in distress for thee, my brother Jonathan, Very pleasant wast thou to me; Wonderful was thy love to me, Above the love of women!

¡Cuánto me angustia tu muerte, mi hermano Jonatán! ¡Dulce y maravillosa fue para mí tu amistad! ¡Tu amor superó al amor de las mujeres!

27 H ow have the mighty fallen, Yea, the weapons of war perish!'

¡Cómo han perecido los valientes! ¡Han quedado destrozadas las armas de guerra!
