1 A nd it cometh to pass, after the death of Saul, that David hath returned from smiting the Amalekite, and David dwelleth in Ziklag two days,

2 a nd it cometh to pass, on the third day, that lo, a man hath come in out of the camp from Saul, and his garments rent, and earth on his head; and it cometh to pass, in his coming in unto David, that he falleth to the earth, and doth obeisance.

на третия ден дойде един човек от стана, от Саул, с раздрани дрехи и пръст на главата си. Като влезе при Давид, падна на земята и се поклони.

3 A nd David saith to him, `Whence comest thou?' and he saith unto him, `Out of the camp of Israel I have escaped.'

Давид му каза: Откъде идваш? А той му отговори: От Израелевия стан се отървах.

4 A nd David saith unto him, `What hath been the matter? declare, I pray thee, to me.' And he saith, that `The people hath fled from the battle, and also a multitude hath fallen of the people, and they die; and also Saul and Jonathan his son have died.'

Давид го попита: Какво стана? Кажи ми. А той отвърна: Народът побегна от сражението и мнозина от народа паднаха мъртви. Умряха също и Саул и синът му Йонатан.

5 A nd David saith unto the youth who is declaring to him, `How hast thou known that Saul and Jonathan his son dead?'

Тогава Давид каза на момъка, който му съобщаваше това: Откъде знаеш, че Саул и синът му Йонатан са умрели?

6 A nd the youth who is declaring to him saith, I happened to meet in mount Gilboa, and lo, Saul is leaning on his spear; and lo, the chariots and those possessing horses have followed him;

Момъкът, който му разказа това, каза: Случайно се намирах на хълма Гелвуе и видях, че Саул се беше подпрял на копието си, а колесниците и конниците го застигаха.

7 a nd he turneth behind him, and seeth me, and calleth unto me, and I say, Here I.

И като погледна зад себе си, той ме видя и ме повика. Аз отговорих: Ето ме.

8 A nd he saith to me, Who thou? and I say unto him, An Amalekite I.'

А той ми каза: Кой си ти? Отговорих му, че съм амаличанин.

9 ` And he saith unto me, Stand, I pray thee, over me, and put me to death, for seized me hath the arrow, for all my soul still in me.

Тогава ми каза: Застани, моля те, над мен и ме убий, защото ме обзе помрачение; понеже целият ми живот е още в мен.

10 A nd I stand over him, and put him to death, for I knew that he doth not live after his falling, and I take the crown which on his head, and the bracelet which on his arm, and bring them in unto my lord hither.'

И така, застанах над него и го убих, понеже бях уверен, че не можеше да живее, тъй като беше вече паднал. И взех короната, която беше на главата му, и гривната, която беше на ръката му, и ги донесох тук, при господаря си.

11 A nd David taketh hold on his garments, and rendeth them, and also all the men who with him,

Тогава Давид хвана дрехите си и ги раздра. Същото направиха и всички мъже, които бяха с него.

12 a nd they mourn, and weep, and fast till the evening, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of Jehovah, and for the house of Israel, because they have fallen by the sword.

Жалиха, плакаха и постиха до вечерта за Саул и сина му Йонатан, за Господния народ и за Израелевия дом затова, че бяха паднали от меч.

13 A nd David saith unto the youth who is declaring to him, `Whence thou?' and he saith, `Son of a sojourner, an Amalekite, I.'

А Давид каза на момъка, който му съобщаваше това: Откъде си ти? И той отговори: Аз съм син на един чужденец, амаличанин.

14 A nd David saith unto him, `How wast thou not afraid to put forth thy hand to destroy the anointed of Jehovah?'

Тогава Давид му каза: Ти как не се убоя да вдигнеш ръка и да убиеш Господния помазаник?

15 A nd David calleth to one of the youths, and saith, `Draw nigh -- fall upon him;' and he smiteth him, and he dieth;

И Давид повика един от момците и му заповяда: Пристъпи, нападни го. И той го порази и вестоносецът умря.

16 a nd David saith unto him, `Thy blood on thine own head, for thy mouth hath testified against thee, saying, I -- I put to death the anointed of Jehovah.'

Давид му каза: Кръвта ти да бъде върху главата ти; защото думите ти свидетелстваха против тебе, като каза: Аз убих Господния помазаник. Оплаквателна песен на Давид за Саул и Йонатан

17 A nd David lamenteth with this lamentation over Saul, and over Jonathan his son;

След това Давид оплака Саул и сина му Йонатан с думите

18 a nd he saith to teach the sons of Judah `The Bow;' lo, it is written on the book of the Upright: --

(и заръча евреите да научат тази Песен на лъка; тя е написана в Книгата на Праведния):

19 ` The Roebuck, O Israel, On thy high places wounded; How have the mighty fallen!

Славата ти, о, Израелю, е пронизана на опасните места на полето ти! Как паднаха силните.

20 D eclare not in Gath, Proclaim not the tidings in the streets of Ashkelon, Lest they rejoice -- The daughters of the Philistines, Lest they exult -- The daughters of the Uncircumcised!

Не възвестявайте това в Гет, не го прогласявайте по улиците на Аскалон, за да не се зарадват филистимските дъщери, за да не се развеселят дъщерите на необрязаните.

21 M ountains of Gilboa! No dew nor rain be on you, And fields of heave-offerings! For there hath become loathsome The shield of the mighty, The shield of Saul -- without the anointed with oil.

Хълми гелвуйски, да няма роса, нито дъжд на вас, нито ниви, доставяйки първи плодове за жертви; защото там беше захвърлен щитът на силните, щитът на Саул, като да не е бил той помазан с миро.

22 F rom the blood of the wounded, From the fat of the mighty, The bow of Jonathan Hath not turned backward; And the sword of Saul doth not return empty.

От кръвта на убитите, от мазнината на силните лъкът Йонатанов не се връщаше назад и мечът Саулов не се връщаше празен.

23 S aul and Jonathan! They are loved and pleasant in their lives, And in their death they have not been parted. Than eagles they have been lighter, Than lions they have been mightier!

Саул и Йонатан се обичаха и се разбираха през живота си и в смъртта си не се разделиха; по-леки бяха от орлите, по-силни от лъвовете.

24 D aughters of Israel! for Saul weep ye, Who is clothing you scarlet with delights. Who is lifting up ornaments of gold on your clothing.

Израелеви дъщери, плачете за Саул, който ви обличаше в червено с украшения, който слагаше златни украшения по дрехите ви.

25 H ow have the mighty fallen In the midst of the battle! Jonathan! on thy high places wounded!

Как паднаха силните сред боя! Йонатан, поразен на опасните места на полето ти.

26 I am in distress for thee, my brother Jonathan, Very pleasant wast thou to me; Wonderful was thy love to me, Above the love of women!

Прескръбен съм за теб, Йонатане, брате мой! Много скъп ми беше ти; твоята любов към мене беше чудесна, превъзхождаше любовта на жените.

27 H ow have the mighty fallen, Yea, the weapons of war perish!'

Как паднаха силните и погинаха бойните оръжия!
