1 A nd the men of Ephraim say unto him, `What this thing thou hast done to us -- not to call for us when thou didst go to fight with Midian?' and they strive with him severely;

Тогава Ефремовите синове казаха на Гедеон: Защо направи това? Защо не ни повика, когато отиде да воюваш против Мадиам? И се караха разпалено с него.

2 a nd he saith unto them, `What have I done now like you? are not the gleanings of Ephraim better than the harvest of Abi-Ezer?

А той им отговори: Какво съм извършил аз сега в сравнение с вас? Ефремовите баберки не са ли по-добри от Авиезеровия гроздобер?

3 I nto your hand hath God given the heads of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb; and what have I been able to do like you?' Then their temper desisted from off him in his speaking this thing.

Във вашите ръце Бог предаде мадиамските началници Орив и Зив; а какво съм могъл аз да извърша в сравнение с вас? Тогава гневът им към него утихна, след като той каза това.

4 A nd Gideon cometh in unto the Jordan, passing over, he and the three hundred men who with him -- wearied, and pursuing,

Когато Гедеон дойде при Йордан, той премина с тристата мъже, които бяха с него. Въпреки че бяха уморени, те продължиха преследването.

5 a nd he saith to the men of Succoth, `Give, I pray you, cakes of bread to the people who at my feet, for they wearied, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna kings of Midian.'

Там Гедеон каза на жителите на Сокхот: Дайте няколко хляба на народа, който върви след мене, защото са изнемощели; аз гоня мадиамските царе Зевей и Салман.

6 A nd the heads of Succoth say, `Is the hand of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thy hand, that we give to thy host bread?'

А сокхотските началници му казаха: Нима си заловил вече Зевей и Салман, за да дадем хляб на войската ти?

7 A nd Gideon saith, `Therefore -- in Jehovah's giving Zebah and Zalmunna into my hand -- I have threshed your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness, and with the threshing instruments.'

А Гедеон отговори: Затова, когато Господ предадѐ Зевей и Салман в ръцете ни, тогава аз ще разкъсам месата ви с пустинни тръни и глогове.

8 A nd he goeth up thence Penuel, and speaketh unto them thus; and the men of Penuel answer him as the men of Succoth answered.

Оттам отиде във Фануил и каза на жителите му същото; а фануилските мъже му отговориха, както бяха отговорили сокхотските мъже.

9 A nd he speaketh also to the men of Penuel, saying, `In my turning back in peace, I break down this tower.'

А той каза на фануилските мъже: Когато се върна с мир, ще съборя тази кула.

10 A nd Zebah and Zalmunna in Karkor, and their camps with them, about fifteen thousand, all who are left of all the camp of the sons of the east; and those falling a hundred and twenty thousand men, drawing sword.

А Зевей и Салман бяха в Каркор заедно с войските си, около петнадесет хиляди души - само тези бяха оцелели от цялата войска на източните жители; защото сто и двадесет хиляди мъже, които си служеха с меч, бяха паднали в боя.

11 A nd Gideon goeth up the way of those who tabernacle in tents, on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and smiteth the camp, and the camp was confident;

Гедеон отиде при онези, които живееха в шатри на изток от Нова и Йогвея, и порази множеството, защото те не очакваха това нападение.

12 a nd Zebab and Zalmunna flee, and he pursueth after them, and captureth the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and all the camp he hath caused to tremble.

А Зевей и Салман избягаха; но той ги преследва и ги хвана, и разби цялата им войска.

13 A nd Gideon son of Joash turneth back from the battle, at the going up of the sun,

След това Гедеон, Йоасовият син, се върна от войната през възвишението на Херес.

14 a nd captureth a young man of the men of Succoth, and asketh him, and he describeth unto him the heads of Succoth, and its elders -- seventy and seven men.

И като хвана един момък от сокхотските мъже, разпита го и той му описа началниците на Сокхот и старейшините му, седемдесет и седем мъже.

15 A nd he cometh in unto the men of Succoth, and saith, `Lo Zebah and Zalmunna, with whom ye reproached me, saying, Is the hand of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thy hand that we give to thy men who wearied bread?'

Тогава Гедеон отиде при сокхотските мъже и им каза: Ето Зевей и Салман, за които ми се подигравахте: Нима си заловил вече Зевей и Салман, за да дадем хляб на хората ти, че били изнемощели?

16 A nd he taketh the elders of the city, and the thorns of the wilderness, and the threshing instruments, and teacheth by them the men of Succoth,

И залови градските старейшини и събра пустинни тръни и глогове, и наказа с тях сокхотските мъже.

17 a nd the tower of Penuel he hath broken down, and slayeth the men of the city.

Гедеон също събори и кулата на Фануил и изби градските мъже.

18 A nd he saith unto Zebah and unto Zalmunna, `How -- the men whom ye slew in Tabor?' and they say, `As thou -- so they, one -- as the form of the king's sons.'

Тогава каза на Зевей и Салман: Какви бяха онези хора, които убихте в Тавор? А те отговориха: Какъвто си ти, такива бяха и те. Всичките изглеждаха като царски синове.

19 A nd he saith, `My brethren -- sons of my mother -- they; Jehovah liveth, if ye had kept them alive -- I had not slain you.'

А Гедеон каза: Мои братя бяха, синовете на моята майка. Заклевам се в живота на Господа, ако ги бяхте оставили живи, аз не бих ви убил.

20 A nd he saith to Jether his first-born, `Rise, slay them;' and the young man hath not drawn his sword, for he hath been afraid, for he yet a youth.

И каза на първородния си син Йетер: Стани, убий ги. Но младежът не изтегли меча си, защото се боеше, понеже беше още млад.

21 A nd Zebah saith -- also Zalmunna -- `Rise thou, and fall upon us; for as the man -- his might;' and Gideon riseth, and slayeth Zebah and Zalmunna, and taketh their round ornaments which on the necks of their camels.

Тогава Зевей и Салман казаха: Стани ти и ни нападни; защото според човека е и силата му. И така, Гедеон стана, уби Зевей и Салман и взе украшенията с форма на полумесец, които бяха на вратовете на камилите им.

22 A nd the men of Israel say unto Gideon, `Rule over us, both thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, for thou hast saved us from the hand of Midian.'

Тогава Израелевите мъже казаха на Гедеон: Владей над нас ти и синът ти, и внукът ти, защото ти ни освободи от ръката на Мадиам.

23 A nd Gideon saith unto them, `I do not rule over you, nor doth my son rule over you; Jehovah doth rule over you.'

А Гедеон отговори: Нито аз ще владея над вас, нито синът ми ще владее над вас. Господ ще владее над вас.

24 A nd Gideon saith unto them, `Let me ask of you a petition, and give ye to me each the ring of his prey, for they have rings of gold, for they Ishmaelites.'

Гедеон обаче добави: Едно нещо ще поискам от вас - дайте ми всички обиците от плячката си. (Защото неприятелите, понеже бяха исмаиляни, носеха златни обици.)

25 A nd they say, `We certainly give;' and they spread out the garment, and cast thither each the ring of his prey;

А те отговориха: Ще ги дадем. И като простряха една дреха на земята, всеки хвърляше обиците от плячката си.

26 a nd the weight of the rings of gold which he asked is a thousand and seven hundred of gold, apart from the round ornaments, and the drops, and the purple garments, which on the kings of Midian, and apart from the chains which on the necks of their camels,

И теглото на златните обици, които Гедеон си поиска, беше хиляда и седемстотин златни сикъла, освен украшенията с форма на полумесец, огърлиците и моравите дрехи, които бяха върху мадиамските царе, и освен златните вериги, които бяха на вратовете на камилите им.

27 a nd Gideon maketh it into an ephod, and setteth it up in his city, in Ophrah, and all Israel go a-whoring after it there, and it is to Gideon and to his house for a snare.

От тях Гедеон направи ефод, който постави в града си, в Офра. Там целият Израел блудстваше след ефода; и той стана примка на Гедеон и дома му.

28 A nd Midian is humbled before the sons of Israel, and have not added to lift up their head; and the land resteth forty years in the days of Gideon.

Така Мадиам беше покорен пред израелтяните и не повдигна повече глава. И земята беше спокойна четиридесет години в дните на Гедеон.

29 A nd Jerubbaal son of Joash goeth and dwelleth in his own house,

Тогава Йероваал, Йоасовият син, отиде и заживя в дома си.

30 a nd to Gideon there have been seventy sons, coming out of his loin, for he had many wives;

Гедеон имаше седемдесет сина, родени на самия него, защото имаше много жени.

31 a nd his concubine, who in Shechem, hath born to him -- even she -- a son, and he appointeth his name Abimelech.

Също и наложницата му, която беше в Сихем, му роди син, когото той нарече Авимелех.

32 A nd Gideon son of Joash dieth, in a good old age, and is buried in the burying-place of Joash his father, in Ophrah of the Abi-Ezrite.

И Гедеон, Йоасовият син, умря в дълбока старост и беше погребан в гроба на баща си Йоас, в Офра Авиезерова.

33 A nd it cometh to pass, when Gideon dead, that the sons of Israel turn back and go a-whoring after the Baalim, and set over them Baal-Berith for a god;

А когато Гедеон умря, израелтяните пак се обърнаха и блудстваха след ваалимите, поставиха си Ваалверит за бог.

34 a nd the sons of Israel have not remembered Jehovah their God, who is delivering them out of the hand of all their enemies round about,

И израелтяните не си спомниха за Господа, своя Бог, Който ги беше избавил от всичките им околни неприятели.

35 n either have they done kindness with the house of Jerubbaal -- Gideon -- according to all the good which he did with Israel.

Нито пък показаха благост към дома на Йероваал (Гедеон) в съответствие с всички добрини, които той беше сторил на Израел.
