1 A nd the men of Ephraim say unto him, `What this thing thou hast done to us -- not to call for us when thou didst go to fight with Midian?' and they strive with him severely;

И сказали ему Ефремляне: зачем ты это сделал, что не позвал нас, когда шел воевать с Мадианитянами? И сильно ссорились с ним.

2 a nd he saith unto them, `What have I done now like you? are not the gleanings of Ephraim better than the harvest of Abi-Ezer?

отвечал им: сделал ли я что такое, как вы ныне? Не счастливее ли Ефрем добирал виноград, нежели Авиезер обирал?

3 I nto your hand hath God given the heads of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb; and what have I been able to do like you?' Then their temper desisted from off him in his speaking this thing.

В ваши руки предал Бог князей Мадиамских Орива и Зива, и что мог сделать я такое, как вы? Тогда успокоился дух их против него, когда сказал он им такие слова.

4 A nd Gideon cometh in unto the Jordan, passing over, he and the three hundred men who with him -- wearied, and pursuing,

И пришел Гедеон к Иордану, и перешел сам и триста человек, бывшие с ним. Они были утомлены, преследуя.

5 a nd he saith to the men of Succoth, `Give, I pray you, cakes of bread to the people who at my feet, for they wearied, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna kings of Midian.'

И сказал он жителям Сокхофа: дайте хлеба народу, который идет за мною; они утомились, а я преследую Зевея и Салмана, царей Мадиамских.

6 A nd the heads of Succoth say, `Is the hand of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thy hand, that we give to thy host bread?'

Князья Сокхофа сказали: разве рука Зевея и Салмана уже в твоей руке, чтобы нам войску твоему давать хлеб?

7 A nd Gideon saith, `Therefore -- in Jehovah's giving Zebah and Zalmunna into my hand -- I have threshed your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness, and with the threshing instruments.'

И сказал Гедеон: за это, когда предаст Господь Зевея и Салмана в руки мои, я растерзаю тело ваше терновником пустынным и молотильными зубчатыми досками.

8 A nd he goeth up thence Penuel, and speaketh unto them thus; and the men of Penuel answer him as the men of Succoth answered.

Оттуда пошел он в Пенуэл и то же сказал жителям его, и жители Пенуэла отвечали ему то же, что отвечали жители Сокхофа.

9 A nd he speaketh also to the men of Penuel, saying, `In my turning back in peace, I break down this tower.'

Он сказал и жителям Пенуэла: когда я возвращусь в мире, разрушу башню сию.

10 A nd Zebah and Zalmunna in Karkor, and their camps with them, about fifteen thousand, all who are left of all the camp of the sons of the east; and those falling a hundred and twenty thousand men, drawing sword.

Зевей же и Салман были в Каркоре и с ними их ополчение до пятнадцати тысяч, все, что осталось из всего ополчения жителей востока; пало же сто двадцать тысяч человек, обнажающих меч.

11 A nd Gideon goeth up the way of those who tabernacle in tents, on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and smiteth the camp, and the camp was confident;

Гедеон пошел к живущим в шатрах на восток от Новы и Иогбеги и поразил стан, когда стан стоял беспечно.

12 a nd Zebab and Zalmunna flee, and he pursueth after them, and captureth the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and all the camp he hath caused to tremble.

Зевей и Салман побежали; он погнался за ними и схватил обоих царей Мадиамских, Зевея и Салмана, и весь стан привел в замешательство.

13 A nd Gideon son of Joash turneth back from the battle, at the going up of the sun,

И возвратился Гедеон, сын Иоаса, с войны от возвышенности Хереса.

14 a nd captureth a young man of the men of Succoth, and asketh him, and he describeth unto him the heads of Succoth, and its elders -- seventy and seven men.

И захватил юношу из жителей Сокхофа и выспросил у него; и он написал ему князей и старейшин Сокхофских семьдесят семь человек.

15 A nd he cometh in unto the men of Succoth, and saith, `Lo Zebah and Zalmunna, with whom ye reproached me, saying, Is the hand of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thy hand that we give to thy men who wearied bread?'

И пришел он к жителям Сокхофским, и сказал: вот Зевей и Салман, за которых вы посмеялись надо мною, говоря: разве рука Зевея и Салмана уже в твоей руке, чтобы нам давать хлеб утомившимся людям твоим?

16 A nd he taketh the elders of the city, and the thorns of the wilderness, and the threshing instruments, and teacheth by them the men of Succoth,

И взял старейшин города и терновник пустынный и зубчатые молотильные доски и наказал ими жителей Сокхофа;

17 a nd the tower of Penuel he hath broken down, and slayeth the men of the city.

и башню Пенуэльскую разрушил, и перебил жителей города.

18 A nd he saith unto Zebah and unto Zalmunna, `How -- the men whom ye slew in Tabor?' and they say, `As thou -- so they, one -- as the form of the king's sons.'

И сказал Зевею и Салману: каковы были те, которых вы убили на Фаворе? Они сказали: они были такие, как ты, каждый имел вид сынов царских.

19 A nd he saith, `My brethren -- sons of my mother -- they; Jehovah liveth, if ye had kept them alive -- I had not slain you.'

сказал: это были братья мои, сыны матери моей. Жив Господь! если бы вы оставили их в живых, я не убил бы вас.

20 A nd he saith to Jether his first-born, `Rise, slay them;' and the young man hath not drawn his sword, for he hath been afraid, for he yet a youth.

И сказал Иеферу, первенцу своему: встань, убей их. Но юноша не извлек меча своего, потому что боялся, так как был еще молод.

21 A nd Zebah saith -- also Zalmunna -- `Rise thou, and fall upon us; for as the man -- his might;' and Gideon riseth, and slayeth Zebah and Zalmunna, and taketh their round ornaments which on the necks of their camels.

И сказали Зевей и Салман: встань сам и порази нас, потому что по человеку и сила его. И встал Гедеон, и убил Зевея и Салмана, и взял пряжки, бывшие на шеях верблюдов их.

22 A nd the men of Israel say unto Gideon, `Rule over us, both thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, for thou hast saved us from the hand of Midian.'

И сказали Израильтяне Гедеону: владей нами ты и сын твой и сын сына твоего, ибо ты спас нас из руки Мадианитян.

23 A nd Gideon saith unto them, `I do not rule over you, nor doth my son rule over you; Jehovah doth rule over you.'

Гедеон сказал им: ни я не буду владеть вами, ни мой сын не будет владеть вами; Господь да владеет вами.

24 A nd Gideon saith unto them, `Let me ask of you a petition, and give ye to me each the ring of his prey, for they have rings of gold, for they Ishmaelites.'

И сказал им Гедеон: прошу у вас одного, дайте мне каждый по серьге из добычи своей. (Ибо у много было золотых серег, потому что они были Измаильтяне.)

25 A nd they say, `We certainly give;' and they spread out the garment, and cast thither each the ring of his prey;

Они сказали: дадим. И разостлали одежду и бросали туда каждый по серьге из добычи своей.

26 a nd the weight of the rings of gold which he asked is a thousand and seven hundred of gold, apart from the round ornaments, and the drops, and the purple garments, which on the kings of Midian, and apart from the chains which on the necks of their camels,

Весу в золотых серьгах, которые он выпросил, было тысяча семьсот золотых, кроме пряжек, пуговиц и пурпуровых одежд, которые были на царях Мадиамских, и кроме цепочек, которые были на шее у верблюдов их.

27 a nd Gideon maketh it into an ephod, and setteth it up in his city, in Ophrah, and all Israel go a-whoring after it there, and it is to Gideon and to his house for a snare.

Из этого сделал Гедеон ефод и положил его в своем городе, в Офре, и стали все Израильтяне блудно ходить туда за ним, и был он сетью Гедеону и всему дому его.

28 A nd Midian is humbled before the sons of Israel, and have not added to lift up their head; and the land resteth forty years in the days of Gideon.

Так смирились Мадианитяне пред сынами Израиля и не стали уже поднимать головы своей, и покоилась земля сорок лет во дни Гедеона.

29 A nd Jerubbaal son of Joash goeth and dwelleth in his own house,

И пошел Иероваал, сын Иоасов, и жил в доме своем.

30 a nd to Gideon there have been seventy sons, coming out of his loin, for he had many wives;

У Гедеона было семьдесят сыновей, происшедших от чресл его, потому что у него много было жен.

31 a nd his concubine, who in Shechem, hath born to him -- even she -- a son, and he appointeth his name Abimelech.

Также и наложница, жившая в Сихеме, родила ему сына, и он дал ему имя Авимелех.

32 A nd Gideon son of Joash dieth, in a good old age, and is buried in the burying-place of Joash his father, in Ophrah of the Abi-Ezrite.

И умер Гедеон, сын Иоасов, в глубокой старости, и погребен во гробе отца своего Иоаса, в Офре Авиезеровой.

33 A nd it cometh to pass, when Gideon dead, that the sons of Israel turn back and go a-whoring after the Baalim, and set over them Baal-Berith for a god;

Когда умер Гедеон, сыны Израилевы опять стали блудно ходить вслед Ваалов и поставили себе богом Ваалверифа;

34 a nd the sons of Israel have not remembered Jehovah their God, who is delivering them out of the hand of all their enemies round about,

и не вспомнили сыны Израилевы Господа Бога своего, Который избавлял их из руки всех врагов, окружавших их;

35 n either have they done kindness with the house of Jerubbaal -- Gideon -- according to all the good which he did with Israel.

и дому Иероваалову, Гедеонову, не сделали милости за все благодеяния, какие он сделал Израилю.
