1 A nd the men of Ephraim say unto him, `What this thing thou hast done to us -- not to call for us when thou didst go to fight with Midian?' and they strive with him severely;

Pero los hombres de Efraín le dijeron: ¿Qué es esto que has hecho con nosotros, no llamándonos cuando ibas a la guerra contra Madián? Y le reconvinieron fuertemente.

2 a nd he saith unto them, `What have I done now like you? are not the gleanings of Ephraim better than the harvest of Abi-Ezer?

A los cuales él respondió: ¿Qué he hecho yo ahora comparado con vosotros? ¿No es el rebusco de Efraín mejor que la vendimia de Abiezer?

3 I nto your hand hath God given the heads of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb; and what have I been able to do like you?' Then their temper desisted from off him in his speaking this thing.

Dios ha entregado en vuestras manos a Oreb y a Zeeb, príncipes de Madián; ¿y qué he podido yo hacer comparado con vosotros? Entonces el enojo de ellos contra él se aplacó, luego que él habló esta palabra.

4 A nd Gideon cometh in unto the Jordan, passing over, he and the three hundred men who with him -- wearied, and pursuing,

Y vino Gedeón al Jordán, y pasó él y los trescientos hombres que traía consigo, cansados, mas todavía persiguiendo.

5 a nd he saith to the men of Succoth, `Give, I pray you, cakes of bread to the people who at my feet, for they wearied, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna kings of Midian.'

Y dijo a los de Sucot: Yo os ruego que deis a la gente que me sigue algunos bocados de pan; porque están cansados, y yo persigo a Zeba y Zalmuna, reyes de Madián.

6 A nd the heads of Succoth say, `Is the hand of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thy hand, that we give to thy host bread?'

Y los principales de Sucot respondieron: ¿Están ya Zeba y Zalmuna en tu mano, para que demos pan a tu ejército?

7 A nd Gideon saith, `Therefore -- in Jehovah's giving Zebah and Zalmunna into my hand -- I have threshed your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness, and with the threshing instruments.'

Y Gedeón dijo: Cuando Jehová haya entregado en mi mano a Zeba y a Zalmuna, yo trillaré vuestra carne con espinos y abrojos del desierto.

8 A nd he goeth up thence Penuel, and speaketh unto them thus; and the men of Penuel answer him as the men of Succoth answered.

De allí subió a Peniel, y les dijo las mismas palabras. Y los de Peniel le respondieron como habían respondido los de Sucot.

9 A nd he speaketh also to the men of Penuel, saying, `In my turning back in peace, I break down this tower.'

Y él habló también a los de Peniel, diciendo: Cuando yo vuelva en paz, derribaré esta torre.

10 A nd Zebah and Zalmunna in Karkor, and their camps with them, about fifteen thousand, all who are left of all the camp of the sons of the east; and those falling a hundred and twenty thousand men, drawing sword.

Y Zeba y Zalmuna estaban en Carcor, y con ellos su ejército como de quince mil hombres, todos los que habían quedado de todo el ejército de los hijos del oriente; pues habían caído ciento veinte mil hombres que sacaban espada.

11 A nd Gideon goeth up the way of those who tabernacle in tents, on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and smiteth the camp, and the camp was confident;

Subiendo, pues, Gedeón por el camino de los que habitaban en tiendas al oriente de Noba y de Jogbeha, atacó el campamento, porque el ejército no estaba en guardia.

12 a nd Zebab and Zalmunna flee, and he pursueth after them, and captureth the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and all the camp he hath caused to tremble.

Y huyendo Zeba y Zalmuna, él los siguió; y prendió a los dos reyes de Madián, Zeba y Zalmuna, y llenó de espanto a todo el ejército.

13 A nd Gideon son of Joash turneth back from the battle, at the going up of the sun,

Entonces Gedeón hijo de Joás volvió de la batalla antes que el sol subiese,

14 a nd captureth a young man of the men of Succoth, and asketh him, and he describeth unto him the heads of Succoth, and its elders -- seventy and seven men.

y tomó a un joven de los hombres de Sucot, y le preguntó; y él le dio por escrito los nombres de los principales y de los ancianos de Sucot, setenta y siete varones.

15 A nd he cometh in unto the men of Succoth, and saith, `Lo Zebah and Zalmunna, with whom ye reproached me, saying, Is the hand of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thy hand that we give to thy men who wearied bread?'

Y entrando a los hombres de Sucot, dijo: He aquí a Zeba y a Zalmuna, acerca de los cuales me zaheristeis, diciendo: ¿Están ya en tu mano Zeba y Zalmuna, para que demos nosotros pan a tus hombres cansados?

16 A nd he taketh the elders of the city, and the thorns of the wilderness, and the threshing instruments, and teacheth by them the men of Succoth,

Y tomó a los ancianos de la ciudad, y espinos y abrojos del desierto, y castigó con ellos a los de Sucot.

17 a nd the tower of Penuel he hath broken down, and slayeth the men of the city.

Asimismo derribó la torre de Peniel, y mató a los de la ciudad.

18 A nd he saith unto Zebah and unto Zalmunna, `How -- the men whom ye slew in Tabor?' and they say, `As thou -- so they, one -- as the form of the king's sons.'

Luego dijo a Zeba y a Zalmuna: ¿Qué aspecto tenían aquellos hombres que matasteis en Tabor? Y ellos respondieron: Como tú, así eran ellos; cada uno parecía hijo de rey.

19 A nd he saith, `My brethren -- sons of my mother -- they; Jehovah liveth, if ye had kept them alive -- I had not slain you.'

Y él dijo: Mis hermanos eran, hijos de mi madre.!! Vive Jehová, que si les hubierais conservado la vida, yo no os mataría!

20 A nd he saith to Jether his first-born, `Rise, slay them;' and the young man hath not drawn his sword, for he hath been afraid, for he yet a youth.

Y dijo a Jeter su primogénito: Levántate, y mátalos. Pero el joven no desenvainó su espada, porque tenía temor, pues era aún muchacho.

21 A nd Zebah saith -- also Zalmunna -- `Rise thou, and fall upon us; for as the man -- his might;' and Gideon riseth, and slayeth Zebah and Zalmunna, and taketh their round ornaments which on the necks of their camels.

Entonces dijeron Zeba y Zalmuna: Levántate tú, y mátanos; porque como es el varón, tal es su valentía. Y Gedeón se levantó, y mató a Zeba y a Zalmuna; y tomó los adornos de lunetas que sus camellos traían al cuello.

22 A nd the men of Israel say unto Gideon, `Rule over us, both thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, for thou hast saved us from the hand of Midian.'

Y los israelitas dijeron a Gedeón: Sé nuestro señor, tú, y tu hijo, y tu nieto; pues que nos has librado de mano de Madián.

23 A nd Gideon saith unto them, `I do not rule over you, nor doth my son rule over you; Jehovah doth rule over you.'

Mas Gedeón respondió: No seré señor sobre vosotros, ni mi hijo os señoreará: Jehová señoreará sobre vosotros.

24 A nd Gideon saith unto them, `Let me ask of you a petition, and give ye to me each the ring of his prey, for they have rings of gold, for they Ishmaelites.'

Y les dijo Gedeón: Quiero haceros una petición; que cada uno me dé los zarcillos de su botín (pues traían zarcillos de oro, porque eran ismaelitas).

25 A nd they say, `We certainly give;' and they spread out the garment, and cast thither each the ring of his prey;

Ellos respondieron: De buena gana te los daremos. Y tendiendo un manto, echó allí cada uno los zarcillos de su botín.

26 a nd the weight of the rings of gold which he asked is a thousand and seven hundred of gold, apart from the round ornaments, and the drops, and the purple garments, which on the kings of Midian, and apart from the chains which on the necks of their camels,

Y fue el peso de los zarcillos de oro que él pidió, mil setecientos siclos de oro, sin las planchas y joyeles y vestidos de púrpura que traían los reyes de Madián, y sin los collares que traían sus camellos al cuello.

27 a nd Gideon maketh it into an ephod, and setteth it up in his city, in Ophrah, and all Israel go a-whoring after it there, and it is to Gideon and to his house for a snare.

Y Gedeón hizo de ellos un efod, el cual hizo guardar en su ciudad de Ofra; y todo Israel se prostituyó tras de ese efod en aquel lugar; y fue tropezadero a Gedeón y a su casa.

28 A nd Midian is humbled before the sons of Israel, and have not added to lift up their head; and the land resteth forty years in the days of Gideon.

Así fue subyugado Madián delante de los hijos de Israel, y nunca más volvió a levantar cabeza. Y reposó la tierra cuarenta años en los días de Gedeón.

29 A nd Jerubbaal son of Joash goeth and dwelleth in his own house,

Luego Jerobaal hijo de Joás fue y habitó en su casa.

30 a nd to Gideon there have been seventy sons, coming out of his loin, for he had many wives;

Y tuvo Gedeón setenta hijos que constituyeron su descendencia, porque tuvo muchas mujeres.

31 a nd his concubine, who in Shechem, hath born to him -- even she -- a son, and he appointeth his name Abimelech.

También su concubina que estaba en Siquem le dio un hijo, y le puso por nombre Abimelec.

32 A nd Gideon son of Joash dieth, in a good old age, and is buried in the burying-place of Joash his father, in Ophrah of the Abi-Ezrite.

Y murió Gedeón hijo de Joás en buena vejez, y fue sepultado en el sepulcro de su padre Joás, en Ofra de los abiezeritas.

33 A nd it cometh to pass, when Gideon dead, that the sons of Israel turn back and go a-whoring after the Baalim, and set over them Baal-Berith for a god;

Pero aconteció que cuando murió Gedeón, los hijos de Israel volvieron a prostituirse yendo tras los baales, y escogieron por dios a Baal-berit.

34 a nd the sons of Israel have not remembered Jehovah their God, who is delivering them out of the hand of all their enemies round about,

Y no se acordaron los hijos de Israel de Jehová su Dios, que los había librado de todos sus enemigos en derredor;

35 n either have they done kindness with the house of Jerubbaal -- Gideon -- according to all the good which he did with Israel.

ni se mostraron agradecidos con la casa de Jerobaal, el cual es Gedeón, conforme a todo el bien que él había hecho a Israel.
