1 A nd the Philistines gather their camps to battle, and are gathered to Shochoh, which to Judah, and encamp between Shochoh and Azekah, in Ephes-Dammim;

2 a nd Saul and the men of Israel have been gathered, and encamp by the valley of Elah, and set the battle in array to meet the Philistines.

А Саул и Израелевите мъже се събраха и разположиха стан в долината Ила, и се приготвиха за бой против филистимците.

3 A nd the Philistines are standing on the mountain on this side, and the Israelites are standing on the mountain on that side, and the valley between them.

Филистимците стояха на хълма от едната страна, а Израел стоеше на хълма от другата страна и долината беше между тях.

4 A nd there goeth out a man of the duellists from the camps of the Philistines, Goliath his name, from Gath; his height six cubits and a span,

И от филистимския стан излезе юнак на име Голиат, от Гет, шест лакътя и една педя висок.

5 a nd a helmet of brass on his head, and a scaled coat of mail he clothed, and the weight of the coat of mail five thousand shekels of brass,

Той имаше меден шлем на главата си и беше облечен с люспеста броня. Тежестта на бронята беше пет хиляди сикъла мед.

6 a nd a frontlet of brass on his feet, and a javelin of brass between his shoulders,

Имаше медни наколенки на пищялите си и медно щитче на раменете си.

7 a nd the wood of his spear like a beam of weavers', and the flame of his spear six hundred shekels of iron, and the bearer of the buckler is going before him.

Дръжката на копието му беше като кросно на тъкач; и острието на копието му тежеше шестстотин сикъла желязо. Щитоносецът му вървеше пред него.

8 A nd he standeth and calleth unto the ranks of Israel, and saith to them, `Why are ye come out to set in array the battle? not I the Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose for you a man, and let him come down unto me;

И той застана и извика към Израелевите редици: Защо излязохте да се биете? Не съм ли аз филистимец и вие Саулови слуги? Изберете си един мъж и нека слезе при мен.

9 i f he be able to fight with me, and have smitten me, then we have been to you for servants; and if I am able for him, and have smitten him, then ye have been to us for servants, and have served us.'

Ако може да се бие с мен и да ме убие, тогава ние ще ви бъдем слуги. Но ако аз го надвия и го убия, тогава вие ще ни бъдете слуги и ще ни се подчинявате.

10 A nd the Philistine saith, `I have reproached the ranks of Israel this day; give to me a man, and we fight together.'

Филистимецът каза още: Аз хвърлям презрение днес върху Израелевите редици. Дайте ми мъж да се бием двамата.

11 A nd Saul heareth -- and all Israel -- these words of the Philistine, and they are broken down and greatly afraid.

А Саул и целият Израел, когато чуха думите на филистимеца, се смаяха и се уплашиха много.

12 A nd David son of this Ephrathite of Beth-Lehem-Judah, whose name Jesse, and he hath eight sons, and the man in the days of Saul hath become aged among men;

А Давид беше син на онзи ефратец от Витлеем Юдейски, чието име беше Есей и който имаше осем сина. В Сауловите дни този човек имаше старейшински чин между хората.

13 a nd the three eldest sons of Jesse go, they have gone after Saul to battle; and the name of his three sons who have gone into battle Eliab the first-born, and his second Abinadab, and the third Shammah.

Тримата по-големи сина на Есей бяха последвали Саул във войната; имената на тримата му сина, които отидоха на война, бяха: на първородния - Елиав, на втория след него - Авинадав, и на третия - Сама.

14 A nd David is the youngest, and the three eldest have gone after Saul,

Давид беше най-младият; а тримата по-големи следваха Саул.

15 a nd David is going and returning from Saul, to feed the flock of his father at Beth-Lehem.

А Давид оставяше Саул, за да пасе овцете на баща си във Витлеем, и после пак се връщаше.

16 A nd the Philistine draweth nigh, morning and evening, and stationeth himself forty days.

И филистимецът се приближаваше сутрин и вечер и се представяше четиридесет дни.

17 A nd Jesse saith to David his son, `Take, I pray thee, to thy brethren, an ephah of this roasted, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to thy brethren;

В това време Есей каза на сина си Давид: Вземи сега за братята си една ефа пържено жито и тези десет хляба и им ги занеси бързо в стана.

18 a nd these ten cuttings of the cheese thou dost take in to the head of the thousand, and thy brethren thou dost inspect for welfare, and their pledge dost receive.'

А тези десет пити сирене занеси на хилядника им. Виж здрави ли са братята ти и ми донеси вест от тях.

19 A nd Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.

Саул и братята ти, и всички Израелеви мъже са в долината Ила, където се бият с филистимците.

20 A nd David riseth early in the morning, and leaveth the flock to a keeper, and lifteth up, and goeth, as Jesse commanded him, and he cometh in to the path, and to the force which is going out unto the rank, and they have shouted for battle;

И така, на сутринта Давид стана рано, остави овцете на пазач, взе нещата и отиде, както Есей му беше заповядал. Той отиде при оградата от коли, когато войската бе подредена за битката и с викове се готвеше за бой.

21 a nd Israel and the Philistines set in array rank to meet rank.

И Израел и филистимците се опълчиха войска срещу войска.

22 A nd David letteth down the goods from off him on the hand of a keeper of the goods, and runneth into the rank, and cometh and asketh of his brethren of welfare.

А Давид остави товара си при пазача на колите и като се завтече към войската, дойде и попита братята си за здравето им.

23 A nd he is speaking with them, and lo, a man of the duellists is coming up, Goliath the Philistine his name, of Gath, out of the ranks of the Philistines, and he speaketh according to those words, and David heareth;

Докато разговаряше с тях, ето, юнакът, филистимецът от Гет на име Голиат, излезе от филистимските редици и повтори същите думи; и Давид го чу.

24 a nd all the men of Israel when they see the man flee from his presence, and are greatly afraid.

А всички Израелеви мъже, като видяха този мъж, побегнаха от него и много се уплашиха.

25 A nd the men of Israel say, `Have ye seen this man who is coming up? for, to reproach Israel he is coming up, and it hath been -- the man who smiteth him, the king doth enrich him with great riches, and his daughter he doth give to him, and his father's house doth make free in Israel.'

Израелевите мъже казваха: Видяхте ли този мъж, който излиза? Настина той излезе да хвърли презрение върху Израел; който обаче го убие, него царят ще надари с голямо богатство и ще му даде дъщеря си, и ще направи бащиния му дом свободен в Израел.

26 A nd David speaketh unto the men who are standing by him, saying, `What is done to the man who smiteth this Philistine, and hath turned aside reproach from Israel? for who this uncircumcised Philistine that he hath reproached the ranks of the living God?'

И Давид проговори на стоящите при него мъже: Какво ще стане с онзи, който порази този филистимец и премахне укора от Израел? Защото кой е този необрязан филистимец, за да хвърли презрение върху войските на живия Бог?

27 A nd the people speak to him according to this word, saying, `Thus it is done to the man who smiteth him.'

И народът му отговори според казаните думи: Това ще бъде дадено на мъжа, който би го поразил.

28 A nd Eliab, his eldest brother, heareth when he speaketh unto the men, and the anger of Eliab burneth against David, and he saith, `Why this -- thou hast come down! and to whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I have known thy pride, and the evil of thy heart -- for, to see the battle thou hast come down.'

А като чу Елиав, най-големият му брат, как Давид говореше на мъжете, Елиав се разгневи на Давид и каза: Защо си слязъл тук? И на кого си оставил малкото овце в пустинята? Аз зная гордостта ти и лукавството на сърцето ти. Ти си дошъл, за да видиш битката.

29 A nd David saith, `What have I done now? is it not a word?'

Давид отговори: Какво съм сторил сега? Няма ли причина?

30 A nd he turneth round from him unto another, and saith according to this word, and the people return him word as the first word.

И се обърна към друг и говори по същия начин; и народът пак му отговори, както преди това.

31 A nd the words which David hath spoken are heard, and they declare before Saul, and he receiveth him;

А когато се разчуха думите, които Давид казваше, ги известиха на Саул; и той го повика при себе си.

32 a nd David saith unto Saul, `Let no man's heart fall because of him, thy servant doth go, and hath fought with this Philistine.'

Давид каза на Саул: Да не отпада сърцето на никого заради този филистимец. Слугата ти ще иде и ще се бие с него.

33 A nd Saul saith unto David, `Thou art not able to go unto this Philistine, to fight with him, for a youth thou, and he a man of war from his youth.'

Но Саул отвърна на Давид: Ти не можеш да идеш против този филистимец и да се биеш с него. Ти си дете, а той е войнствен мъж още от младостта си.

34 A nd David saith unto Saul, `A shepherd hath thy servant been to his father among the sheep, and the lion hath come -- and the bear -- and hath taken away a sheep out of the drove,

А Давид каза на Саул: Слугата ти пасеше овцете на баща си; и когато връхлетеше лъв или мечка и грабнеше агне от стадото,

35 a nd I have gone out after him, and smitten him, and delivered out of his mouth, and he riseth against me, and I have taken hold on his beard, and smitten him, and put him to death.

аз го подгонвах и го нападах, и отървавах грабнатото от устата му. А когато се нахвърляше върху мене, хващах го за брадата, поразявах го и го убивах.

36 B oth the lion and the bear hath thy servant smitten, and this uncircumcised Philistine hath been as one of them, for he hath reproached the ranks of the living God.'

Слугата ти е убивал и лъв, и мечка. Този необрязан филистимец ще бъде като едно от тях, понеже хвърли презрение върху войските на живия Бог.

37 A nd David saith, `Jehovah, who delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, He doth deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.' And Saul saith unto David, `Go, and Jehovah is with thee.'

Давид каза още: Господ, Който ме отърва от лапата на лъв и от лапата на мечка, ще ме отърве и от ръката на този филистимец. И Саул каза на Давид: Върви; и Господ да бъде с тебе.

38 A nd Saul clotheth David with his long robe, and hath put a helmet of brass on his head, and doth clothe him with a coat of mail.

Тогава Саул облече Давид с облеклото си и сложи меден шлем на главата му, и го облече с броня.

39 A nd David girded his sword above his long robe, and beginneth to go, for he hath not tried; and David saith unto Saul, `I am not able to go with these, for I had not tried;' and David turneth them aside from off him.

Давид препаса неговия меч над облеклото му и се опита да походи, защото не беше свикнал с тях. И Давид каза на Саул: Не мога да ходя с тези оръжия, защото не съм свикнал. И Давид ги съблече.

40 A nd he taketh his staff in his hand, and chooseth for him five smooth stones from the brook, and putteth them in the shepherds' habiliments that he hath, even in the scrip, and his sling in his hand, and he draweth nigh unto the Philistine.

Той взе тоягата си в ръка и като избра пет гладки камъка от потока, ги сложи в овчарската си торба. Тогава Давид започна да се приближава към филистимеца с прашката си в ръка.

41 A nd the Philistine goeth on, going and drawing near unto David, and the man bearing the buckler before him,

И филистимецът идваше и се приближаваше към Давид; а щитоносецът му вървеше пред него.

42 a nd the Philistine looketh attentively, and seeth David, and despiseth him, for he was a youth, and ruddy, with a fair appearance.

И когато филистимецът се огледа и видя Давид, изгледа го с презрение, защото беше дете, беше рус и красив.

43 A nd the Philistine saith unto David, `Am I a dog that thou art coming unto me with staves?' and the Philistine revileth David by his gods,

Филистимецът каза на Давид: Куче ли съм аз, че идваш против мене с тояга? И филистимецът прокле Давид с боговете си.

44 a nd the Philistine saith unto David, `Come unto me, and I give thy flesh to the fowl of the heavens, and to the beast of the field.'

Филистимецът каза също на Давид: Ела при мен и ще дам месата ти на летящите птици и на земните зверове.

45 A nd David saith unto the Philistine, `Thou art coming unto me with sword, and with spear, and with buckler, and I am coming unto thee in the name of Jehovah of Hosts, God of the ranks of Israel, which thou hast reproached.

А Давид отвърна на филистимеца: Ти идваш против мене с меч, копие и сулица; а аз идвам против тебе в името на Господа на Силите, Бога на Израелевите войски, върху които ти хвърли презрение.

46 T his day doth Jehovah shut thee up into my hand -- and I have smitten thee, and turned aside thy head from off thee, and given the carcase of the camp of the Philistines this day to the fowl of the heavens, and to the beast of the earth, and all the earth do know that God is for Israel.

Днес Господ ще те предаде в ръката ми. Като те убия, ще ти отнема главата и днес ще предам труповете на филистимското множество на летящите птици и на земните зверове; за да познае целият свят, че има Бог в Израел.

47 a nd all this assembly do know that not by sword and by spear doth Jehovah save, that the battle Jehovah's, and He hath given you into our hand.'

Да познаят всички хора, събрани тук, че Господ не избавя с меч и копие; защото боят е на Господа и Той ще ви предаде в нашите ръце.

48 A nd it hath come to pass, that the Philistine hath risen, and goeth, and draweth near to meet David, and David hasteth and runneth to the rank to meet the Philistine,

И когато филистимецът се изправи, идваше и се приближаваше срещу Давид, Давид побърза и се затича към редиците да посрещне филистимеца.

49 a nd David putteth forth his hand unto the vessel, and taketh thence a stone, and slingeth, and smiteth the Philistine on his forehead, and the stone sinketh into his forehead, and he falleth on his face to the earth.

Давид бръкна в торбата си, взе оттам един камък и като го хвърли с прашката си, удари филистимеца в челото му, така че камъкът се заби в главата му. И филистимецът падна по лице на земята.

50 A nd David is stronger than the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smiteth the Philistine, and putteth him to death, and there is no sword in the hand of David,

Така Давид победи филистимеца с прашка и камък, удари го и го уби. Но в ръката на Давид нямаше меч;

51 a nd David runneth and standeth over the Philistine, and taketh his sword, and draweth it out of its sheath, and putteth him to death, and cutteth off with it his head; and the Philistines see that their hero dead, and flee.

затова той се затича и застана над филистимеца, хвана меча му, изтръгна го от ножницата му и като го уби, отсече главата му с меча. А филистимците, като видяха, че юнакът им умря, побегнаха.

52 A nd the men of Israel rise -- also Judah -- and shout, and pursue the Philistines till thou enter the valley, and unto the gates of Ekron, and the wounded of the Philistines fall in the way of Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron,

Тогава Израелевите и Юдовите мъже скочиха, нададоха вик и подгониха филистимците до прохода на Гая и до портите на Акарон. И ранените филистимци падаха по пътя за Саараим до Гет и до Акарон.

53 a nd the sons of Israel turn back from burning after the Philistines, and spoil their camps.

А израелтяните, като се върнаха от преследването на филистимците, разграбиха стана им.

54 A nd David taketh the head of the Philistine, and bringeth it in to Jerusalem, and his weapons he hath put in his own tent.

И Давид взе главата на филистимеца и я занесе в Йерусалим, а оръжията му сложи в шатъра си.

55 A nd when Saul seeth David going out to meet the Philistine, he hath said unto Abner, head of the host, `Whose son this -- the youth, Abner?' and Abner saith, `Thy soul liveth, O king, I have not known.'

А Саул, когато видя, че Давид излизаше против филистимеца, каза на военачалника си Авенир: Авенире, чий син е този момък? А Авенир отвърна: Заклевам се в живота на душата ти, царю, не зная.

56 A nd the king saith, `Ask thou whose son this -- the young man.'

Царят каза: Попитай чий син е този момък.

57 A nd when David turneth back from smiting the Philistine, then Abner taketh him and bringeth him in before Saul, and the head of the Philistine in his hand;

И когато Давид се връщаше от поражението на филистимеца, Авенир го извика и го доведе пред Саул. А главата на филистимеца беше в ръката му.

58 a nd Saul saith unto him, `Whose son thou, O youth?' and David saith, `Son of thy servant Jesse, the Beth-Lehemite.'

Саул го попита: Чий син си, младежо? А Давид отговори: Аз съм син на слугата ти, витлеемеца Есей.
