1 A nd Eliphaz the Temanite answereth and saith: --

2 T o God is a man profitable, Because a wise man to himself is profitable?

Може ли човек да бъде полезен на Бога? Ако разумен може да бъде полезен на себе си.

3 I s it a delight to the Mighty One That thou art righteous? is it gain, That thou makest perfect thy ways?

Ако ти си праведен, Всемогъщият има ли за какво да се радва? Или ползва ли се Той, ако правиш пътищата си непорочни?

4 B ecause of thy reverence Doth He reason thee? He entereth with thee into judgment:

Поради твоя страх от Него ли Той те изобличава и влиза в съд с тебе?

5 I s not thy wickedness abundant? And there is no end to thine iniquities.

Нечестието ти не е ли голямо? И беззаконията ти не са ли безкрайни?

6 F or thou takest a pledge of thy brother for nought, And the garments of the naked Thou dost strip off.

Защото без причина си взел залог от брат си и си лишил голите от дрехите им.

7 T hou causest not the weary to drink water, And from the hungry thou withholdest bread.

Не си напоил с вода уморения и си задържал хляб от гладния.

8 A s to the man of arm -- he hath the earth, And the accepted of face -- he dwelleth in it.

А който беше як, той придобиваше земята; и който беше почитан, той се заселваше в нея.

9 W idows thou hast sent away empty, And the arms of the fatherless are bruised.

Вдовици си отпратил празни и мишците на сирачетата си строшил.

10 T herefore round about thee snares, And trouble thee doth fear suddenly.

Затова примки те обикалят и внезапен страх те ужасява

11 O r darkness -- thou dost not see, And abundance of waters doth cover thee.

или тъмнина и не виждаш, и множество води те покриват.

12 I s not God high heaven? And see the summit of the stars, That they are high.

Бог не е ли на небесните висоти? Сега гледай височината на звездите, колко са нависоко!

13 A nd thou hast said, `What -- hath God known? Through thickness doth He judge?

А ти казваш: Къде ще знае Бог? През мрака ли може да съди?

14 T hick clouds a secret place to Him, And He doth not see;' And the circle of the heavens He walketh habitually,

Облаци Го покриват и не вижда; и ходи по свода небесен.

15 T he path of the age dost thou observe, That men of iniquity have trodden?

Забелязал ли си ти стария път, по който са ходили беззаконниците? -

16 W ho have been cut down unexpectedly, A flood is poured out on their foundation.

Тези, които преждевременно бяха грабнати и чиято основа порой завлече,

17 T hose saying to God, `Turn aside from us,' And what doth the Mighty One to them?

които казаха на Бога: Отдалечи се от нас, и: Какво може Всемогъщият да стори за нас? -

18 A nd he hath filled their houses good: (And the counsel of the wicked Hath been far from me.)

При все че Той напълни с блага домовете им. Но далеч да бъде от мене мъдруването на нечестивите!

19 S ee do the righteous and they rejoice, And the innocent mocketh at them,

Праведните гледат и се радват; и невинните им се присмиват, като казват:

20 ` Surely our substance hath not been cut off, And their excellency hath fire consumed.'

Не бяха ли погубени въстаналите против нас и огън не погълна ли останалите от тях? Бъди в мир с Бога!

21 A cquaint thyself, I pray thee, with Him, And be at peace, Thereby thine increase good.

Сприятели се сега с Него и бъди в мир; от това ще дойде добро за теб.

22 R eceive, I pray thee, from His mouth a law, And set His sayings in thy heart.

И така, приеми закона от устата Му и съхрани думите Му в сърцето си.

23 I f thou dost return unto the Mighty Thou art built up, Thou puttest iniquity far from thy tents.

Ако се върнеш към Всемогъщия, пак ще бъдеш утвърден; и така, отдалечи беззаконието от шатрите си,

24 S o as to set on the dust a defence, And on a rock of the valleys a covering.

хвърли злото си в пръстта и офирското злато - между камъните на потоците;

25 A nd the Mighty hath been thy defence, And silver strength to thee.

и Всемогъщият ще ти бъде злато и изобилие от сребро за тебе.

26 F or then on the Mighty thou delightest thyself, And dost lift up unto God thy face,

Защото тогава ще се веселиш във Всемогъщия и ще въздигаш лицето си към Бога.

27 T hou dost make supplication unto Him, And He doth hear thee, And thy vows thou completest.

Ще Му се помолиш и Той ще те послуша; и ще изпълни оброците Си.

28 A nd thou decreest a saying, And it is established to thee, And on thy ways hath light shone.

И каквото решение вземеш, ще ти бъде потвърдено; и светлина ще сияе по пътищата ти.

29 F or they have made low, And thou sayest, `Lift up.' And the bowed down of eyes he saveth.

Когато те унижат, тогава ще кажеш: Има въздигане! И Той ще спаси онзи, който има смирен поглед.

30 H e delivereth the not innocent, Yea, he hath been delivered By the cleanness of thy hands.

Даже онзи, който не е невинен, ще избави. Да! С чистотата на твоите ръце ще бъде избавен.
