1 A nd Jacob hath gone on his way, and messengers of God come upon him;

Тогава Яков отиде по пътя си и ангели Божии го срещнаха.

2 a nd Jacob saith, when he hath seen them, `This the camp of God;' and he calleth the name of that place `Two Camps.'

А като ги видя, Яков каза: Това е Божие войнство; и нарече мястото Маханаим.

3 A nd Jacob sendeth messengers before him unto Esau his brother, towards the land of Seir, the field of Edom,

И Яков изпрати пред себе си вестители до брат си Исав в Сирийската земя, на страната Едом;

4 a nd commandeth them, saying, `Thus do ye say to my lord, to Esau: Thus said thy servant Jacob, With Laban I have sojourned, and I tarry until now;

и им заръча: Така да кажете на господаря ми Исав: Слугата ти Яков говори така: Бях като пришълец при Лаван и се бавих досега;

5 a nd I have ox, and ass, flock, and man-servant, and maid-servant, and I send to declare to my lord, to find grace in his eyes.'

придобих говеда, осли и овце, слуги и слугини; и изпратих да известят на господаря ми, за да придобия благоволението ти.

6 A nd the messengers turn back unto Jacob, saying, `We came in unto thy brother, unto Esau, and he also is coming to meet thee, and four hundred men with him;'

А вестителите се върнаха при Яков и казаха: Ходихме при брат ти Исав; а и той идва да те посрещне, и четиристотин мъже с него.

7 a nd Jacob feareth exceedingly, and is distressed, and he divideth the people who with him, and the flock, and the herd, and the camels, into two camps,

А Яков, като се уплаши много и се смути, раздели хората, които бяха с него, и стадата, говедата и камилите на две дружини, като каза:

8 a nd saith, `If Esau come in unto the one camp, and have smitten it -- then the camp which is left hath been for an escape.'

Ако Исав налети на едната дружина и я удари, останалата дружина ще се избави.

9 A nd Jacob saith, `God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, Jehovah who saith unto me, Turn back to thy land, and to thy kindred, and I do good with thee:

Тогава Яков каза: Боже на баща ми Авраам и Боже на баща ми Исаак, Господи, Който си ми казал: Върни се в отечеството си и при рода си и Аз ще ти сторя добро,

10 I have been unworthy of all the kind acts, and of all the truth which Thou hast done with thy servant -- for, with my staff I passed over this Jordan, and now I have become two camps.

не съм достоен за най-малката от всички милости и от голямата вярност, които си показал на слугата Си, защото едвам с тоягата си преминах този Йордан, а сега с мене са две дружини.

11 ` Deliver me, I pray Thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I am fearing him, less he come and have smitten me -- mother beside sons;

Избави ме, моля Ти се, от ръката на брат ми, от ръката на Исав; защото се боя от него да не би, като дойде, да порази и мен, и майка с деца.

12 a nd Thou -- Thou hast said, I certainly do good with thee, and have set thy seed as the sand of the sea, which is not numbered because of the multitude.'

А Ти си казал: Наистина ще ти сторя добро и ще умножа потомството ти като морския пясък, който поради множеството си не може да се изброи.

13 A nd he lodgeth there during that night, and taketh from that which is coming into his hand, a present for Esau his brother:

Като пренощува там онази нощ, Яков взе от онова, което му дойде под ръка, за подарък на брат си Исав:

14 s he-goats two hundred, and he-goats twenty, ewes two hundred, and rams twenty,

двеста кози и двадесет козли, двеста овце и двадесет овни,

15 s uckling camels and their young ones thirty, cows forty, and bullocks ten, she-asses twenty, and foals ten;

тридесет дойни камили с малките им, четиридесет крави и десет телета, двадесет ослици и десет жребеца,

16 a nd he giveth into the hand of his servants, every drove by itself, and saith unto his servants, `Pass over before me, and a space ye do put between drove and drove.'

и предаде всяко стадо отделно в ръцете на слугите си. И каза на слугите си: Минете пред мен и оставете разстояние между едно стадо и друго.

17 A nd he commandeth the first, saying, `When Esau my brother meeteth thee, and hath asked thee, saying, Whose thou? and whither goest thou? and whose these before thee?

На първия заръча и му каза: Когато те срещне брат ми Исав и те попита: Чий си? Къде отиваш? Чии са тези пред тебе?

18 t hen thou hast said, Thy servant Jacob's: it a present sent to my lord, to Esau; and lo, he also behind us.'

Тогава ще кажеш: Те са на слугата ти Яков; подарък е, който изпраща на господаря си Исав; и той идва след нас.

19 A nd he commandeth also the second, also the third, also all who are going after the droves, saying, `According to this manner do ye speak unto Esau in your finding him,

Така заръча и на втория, на третия и на всички, които вървяха след стадата, като казваше: По този начин ще говорите на Исав, когато го срещнете;

20 a nd ye have said also, Lo, thy servant Jacob behind us;' for he said, `I pacify his face with the present which is going before me, and afterwards I see his face; it may be he lifteth up my face;'

и ще кажете: Ето, слугата ти Яков идва след нас. Защото си мислеше: Ще го умилостивя с подаръка, който върви пред мен, и после ще видя лицето му; може би ще ме приеме благосклонно.

21 a nd the present passeth over before his face, and he hath lodged during that night in the camp.

И така, подаръкът мина пред него, но сам той остана през онази нощ в стана. Борбата на Яков с Бога

22 A nd he riseth in that night, and taketh his two wives, and his two maid-servants, and his eleven children, and passeth over the passage of Jabbok;

А като стана през нощта, взе двете си жени, двете си слугини и единадесетте си деца и премина брода на Явок.

23 a nd he taketh them, and causeth them to pass over the brook, and he causeth that which he hath to pass over.

Взе ги и ги прекара през потока, прекара и всичко, което имаше.

24 A nd Jacob is left alone, and one wrestleth with him till the ascending of the dawn;

А Яков остана сам. И един човек се бореше с него до зазоряване,

25 a nd he seeth that he is not able for him, and he cometh against the hollow of his thigh, and the hollow of Jacob's thigh is disjointed in his wrestling with him;

който, като видя, че не му надви, допря се до ставата на бедрото му; и ставата на Якововото бедро се измести, докато се бореше с него.

26 a nd he saith, `Send me away, for the dawn hath ascended:' and he saith, `I send thee not away, except thou hast blessed me.'

Тогава човекът каза: Пусни ме да си отида, защото се зазори. А Яков каза: Няма да те пусна да си отидеш, докато не ме благословиш.

27 A nd he saith unto him, `What thy name?' and he saith, `Jacob.'

А той му каза: Как ти е името? Отговори: Яков.

28 A nd he saith, `Thy name is no more called Jacob, but Israel; for thou hast been a prince with God and with men, and dost prevail.'

А той каза: Няма да се наричаш вече Яков, а Израел, защото си бил в борба с Бога и с хора и си надвил.

29 A nd Jacob asketh, and saith, `Declare, I pray thee, thy name;' and he saith, `Why this, thou askest for My name?' and He blesseth him there.

А Яков го попита: Кажи ми, моля, твоето име? А той отвърна: Защо питаш за моето име? И го благослови там.

30 A nd Jacob calleth the name of the place Peniel: for `I have seen God face unto face, and my life is delivered;'

И Яков нарече мястото Фануил, защото си казваше: Видях Бога лице с лице и животът ми беше опазен.

31 a nd the sun riseth on him when he hath passed over Penuel, and he is halting on his thigh;

Слънцето го огря, като отминаваше Фануил; и куцаше с бедрото си.

32 t herefore the sons of Israel do not eat the sinew which shrank, which on the hollow of the thigh, unto this day, because He came against the hollow of Jacob's thigh, against the sinew which shrank.

Затова и до днес израелтяните не ядат сухата жила, която е върху ставата на бедрото; защото човекът се допря до ставата на Якововото бедро при сухата жила.
