1 A nd the men of Israel have sworn in Mizpeh, saying, `None of us doth give his daughter to Benjamin for a wife.'

А Израелевите мъже се бяха заклели в Масфа с думите: Нито един от нас да не даде дъщеря си на вениаминец за жена.

2 A nd the people come in to Beth-El, and sit there till the evening before God, and lift up their voice, and weep -- a great weeping,

Народът дойде във Ветил и остана там до вечерта пред Бога, и те плакаха горко със силен глас.

3 a nd say, `Why, O Jehovah, God of Israel, hath this been in Israel -- to be lacking to-day, from Israel, one tribe?'

И казаха: Защо Господи, Боже на Израел, стана това в Израел и днес едно племе липсва от Израел?

4 A nd it cometh to pass on the morrow, that the people rise early, and build there an altar, and cause to ascend burnt-offerings and peace-offerings.

А на следващия ден народът стана рано и издигна жертвеник на онова място, и принесе всеизгаряния и мирни жертви.

5 A nd the sons of Israel say, `Who he that hath not come up in the assembly out of all the tribes of Israel unto Jehovah?' for the great oath hath been concerning him who hath not come up unto Jehovah to Mizpeh, saying, `He is surely put to death.'

Тогава израелтяните казаха: Кой измежду всичките Израелеви племена не се присъедини към събранието при Господа? Защото се бяха заклели твърдо относно онзи, който не би дошъл при Господа в Масфа, като бяха казали: Непременно да бъде умъртвен.

6 A nd the sons of Israel repent concerning Benjamin their brother, and say, `There hath been to-day cut off one tribe from Israel,

И израелтяните се разкаяха за брат си Вениамин, като казваха: Днес бе отсечено едно племе от Израел.

7 w hat do we do for them -- for those who are left -- for wives, and we -- we have sworn by Jehovah not to give to them of our daughters for wives?'

Какво можем да направим за оцелелите от тях, за да имат жени, тъй като се заклехме в Господа да не им дадем жени от дъщерите си?

8 A nd they say, `Who is one out of the tribes of Israel who hath not come up unto Jehovah to Mizpeh?' and lo, none hath come in unto the camp from Jabesh-Gilead -- unto the assembly.

Затова си казаха: Кой измежду Израелевите племена не възлезе в Масфа при Господа? И, ето, от Явис Галаадски никой не беше дошъл на събранието в стана.

9 A nd the people numbered themselves, and lo, there is not there a man of the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead.

Защото, като преброиха народа, там нямаше нито един от жителите на Явис Галаадски.

10 A nd the company send there twelve thousand men of the sons of valour, and command them, saying, `Go -- and ye have smitten the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead by the mouth of the sword, even the women and the infants.

Затова обществото прати там дванадесет хиляди от най-храбрите мъже със заповед: Идете и поразете жителите на Явис Галаадски с острието на меча заедно с жените и децата.

11 A nd this the thing which ye do; every male, and every woman knowing the lying of a male, ye devote.'

И ето какво ще направите: Избийте всеки мъж и всяка жена, която е лежала с мъж.

12 A nd they find out of the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead four hundred young women, virgins, who have not known man by the lying of a male, and they bring them in unto the camp at Shiloh, which in the land of Canaan.

А когато те изпълняваха заповедта, между жителите на Явис Галаадски намериха четиристотин млади девици, които не бяха познали мъж и не бяха лежали с мъж. И ги доведоха в стана в Сило, в Ханаанската земя.

13 A nd all the company send, and speak, unto the sons of Benjamin who in the rock Rimmon, and proclaim to them peace;

Тогава цялото общество прати вестоносци до Вениаминовите синове, които бяха в канарата Римон, за да им прогласят мир.

14 a nd Benjamin turneth back at that time, and they give to them the women whom they have kept alive of the women of Jabesh-Gilead, and they have not found for them so.

И така, Вениаминовите синове незабавно се върнаха. И те им дадоха за жени девиците, които бяха оставили живи от Явис Галаадските жени; но те не бяха достатъчно.

15 A nd the people repented concerning Benjamin, for Jehovah had made a breach among the tribes of Israel.

И народът се смили над Вениамин, защото Господ беше направил пролом между Израелевите племена.

16 A nd the elders of the company say, `What do we do to the remnant for wives -- for the women have been destroyed out of Benjamin?'

Тогава старейшините на обществото казаха: Какво да направим за оцелелите, за да имат жени, тъй като Вениаминовите жени са изтребени?

17 A nd they say, `A possession of an escaped party to Benjamin, and a tribe is not blotted out from Israel;

И решиха: Наследство е потребно за оцелелите от Вениамин, за да не изчезне това племе от Израел.

18 a nd we -- we are not able to give to them wives out of our daughters, for the sons of Israel have sworn, saying, Cursed he who is giving a wife to Benjamin.'

Ние пък не можем да им дадем жени от дъщерите си, защото израелтяните се заклеха: Проклет, който даде жена на Вениамин.

19 A nd they say, `Lo, a festival of Jehovah in Shiloh, from time to time, which on the north of Beth-El, at the rising of the sun, by the highway which is going up from Beth-El to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah.'

Затова, тъй като всяка година става празник на Господа в Сило, който се намира на север от Ветил, на изток от пътя, който отива от Ветил в Сихем, и на юг от Левона,

20 A nd they command the sons of Benjamin, saying, `Go -- and ye have laid wait in the vineyards,

заповядаха на Вениаминовите синове следното: Идете, скрийте се в лозята

21 a nd have seen, and lo, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in dances -- then ye have gone out from the vineyards, and caught for you each his wife out of the daughters of Shiloh, and gone to the land of Benjamin;

и гледайте внимателно. Ако силоенските дъщери излязат да играят хоро, тогава изскочете от лозята и си грабнете всеки за себе си жена от силоенските дъщери, и се приберете във Вениаминовата земя.

22 a nd it hath been, when their fathers or their brethren come in to plead unto us, that we have said unto them, Favour us them, for we have not taken each his wife in battle, for ye -- ye have not given to them at this time ye are guilty.'

А когато бащите им или братята им дойдат при нас, за да се оплачат, ние ще им кажем: Бъдете благосклонни към тях заради нас, понеже в битката ние не запазихме жена за всеки. А сега не вие сте им ги дали, за да се смятате за виновни.

23 A nd the sons of Benjamin do so, and take women according to their number, out of the dancers whom they have taken violently away; and they go, and turn back unto their inheritance, and build the cities, and dwell in them.

И Вениаминовите синове направиха така и според броя си взеха жени от играещите хоро. После си тръгнаха и се върнаха в пределите си, и съградиха отново градовете си, и живееха в тях.

24 A nd the sons of Israel go up and down thence at that time, each to his tribe, and to his family; and they go out thence each to his inheritance.

Тогава израелтяните си тръгнаха оттам, всеки в племето си и в рода си, и излязоха оттам, и всеки се прибра в пределите си.

25 I n those days there is no king in Israel; each doth that which is right in his own eyes.

В онези дни в Израел нямаше цар. Всеки правеше каквото му се виждаше за добре.
