1 A nd Ben-Hadad king of Aram hath gathered all his force, and thirty and two kings with him, and horse and chariot, and he goeth up and layeth siege against Samaria, and fighteth with it,

Тогава сирийският цар Венадад събра цялата си войска (а с него имаше тридесет и двама царе и коне, и колесници). Той настъпи, обсади Самария и воюваше против нея.

2 a nd sendeth messengers unto Ahab king of Israel, to the city,

И прати хора до Израелевия цар Ахаав в града, за да му кажат: Така казва Венадад:

3 a nd saith to him, `Thus said Ben-Hadad, `Thy silver and thy gold are mine, and thy wives and thy sons -- the best -- are mine.'

Среброто и златото ти е мое. Също и жените ти и най-добрите от децата ти са мои.

4 A nd the king of Israel answereth and saith, `According to thy word, my lord, O king: I thine, and all that I have.'

А Израелевият цар отговори: Както казваш, господарю мой, царю, твой съм аз и всичко, което имам.

5 A nd the messengers turn back and say, `Thus spake Ben-Hadad, saying, Surely I sent unto thee, saying, Thy silver, and thy gold, and thy wives, and thy sons, to me thou dost give;

А пратениците пак дойдоха и казаха: Така казва Венадад: Наистина пратих до тебе да кажат: Ще дадеш на мене среброто си, златото си, жените си и децата си.

6 f or if, at this time to-morrow, I send my servants unto thee then they have searched thy house, and the houses of thy servants, and it hath been, every desirable thing of thine eyes they place in their hand, and have taken away.'

Обаче утре по това време ще пратя слугите си при тебе, за да претърсят къщата ти и къщите на слугите ти. И всичко, което им се вижда желано, ще сложат ръка на него и ще го отнемат.

7 A nd the king of Israel calleth to all the elders of the land, and saith, `Know, I pray you, and see that evil this is seeking, for he sent unto me for my wives, and for my sons, and for my silver, and for my gold, and I withheld not from him.'

Тогава Израелевият цар повика всички старейшини в страната и каза: Забележете, моля, и вижте, че този човек търси повод за зло; защото прати до мене пратеници за жените, децата, среброто и златото ми и не му казах нищо.

8 A nd all the elders and all the people say unto him, `Do not hearken, nor consent.'

А всички старейшини и целият народ му казаха: Не го слушай! Нито се съгласявай.

9 A nd he saith to the messengers of Ben-Hadad, `Say to my lord the king, All that thou didst send for unto thy servant at the first I do, and this thing I am not able to do;' and the messengers go and take him back word.

Затова Ахаав отговори на Венададовите пратеници: Кажете на господаря ми, царя: Всичко, каквото ти заръча на слугата си първия път, ще го направя, но това не мога да направя. И така, пратениците си отидоха и занесоха отговор.

10 A nd Ben-Hadad sendeth unto him, and saith, `Thus do the gods to me, and thus do they add, if the dust of Samaria suffice for handfuls for all the people who at my feet.'

Тогава Венадад прати отново до него да кажат: Така да ми направят боговете - да! - и повече да прибавят, ако пръстта на Самария бъде достатъчна за по една шепа на целия народ, който ме следва.

11 A nd the king of Israel answereth and saith, `Speak ye: let not him who is girding on boast himself as him who is loosing.'

Но Израелевият цар отговори: Кажете му: Онзи, който опасва оръжия, нека не се хвали, както онзи, който ги разпасва.

12 A nd it cometh to pass at the hearing of this word -- and he is drinking, he and the kings, in the booths -- that he saith unto his servants, `Set yourselves;' and they set themselves against the city.

А когато Венадад чу тези думи - той и царете, които бяха с него и пиеха в шатрите, каза на слугите си: Нападнете. И те се опълчиха против града.

13 A nd lo, a certain prophet hath come nigh unto Ahab king of Israel, and saith, `Thus said Jehovah, `Hast thou seen all this great multitude? lo, I am giving it into thy hand to-day, and thou hast known that I Jehovah.'

Тогава един пророк дойде при Израелевия цар Ахаав и му каза: Така казва Господ: Виждаш ли цялото това голямо множество? Аз днес го предавам в ръцете ти. Ти ще познаеш, че Аз съм Господ.

14 A nd Ahab saith, `By whom?' and he saith, `Thus said Jehovah, By the young men of the heads of the provinces;' and he saith, `Who doth direct the battle?' and he saith, `Thou.'

А Ахаав попита: Чрез кого? А той отвърна: Така казва Господ: Чрез слугите на областните управители. Тогава царят каза: Кой ще започне сражението? А пророкът отговори: Ти.

15 A nd he inspecteth the young men of the heads of the provinces, and they are two hundred, two and thirty, and after them he hath inspecteth the whole of the people, all the sons of Israel, seven thousand,

Тогава Ахаав събра слугите на областните управители, които бяха двеста тридесет и двама души, и след тях събра целия народ, всички израелтяни, които бяха седем хиляди души.

16 a nd they go out at noon, and Ben-Hadad is drinking -- drunk in the booths, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings, helping him.

И те излязоха около пладне. А Венадад пиеше и се опиваше в шатрите, заедно с царете - тридесет и двамата съюзени с него царе.

17 A nd the young men of the heads of the provinces go out at the first, and Ben-Hadad sendeth, and they declare to him, saying, `Men have come out of Samaria.'

Първи излязоха слугите на областните управители. И когато Венадад прати слуги, за да узнае как върви обсадата, му известиха: Мъже излязоха от Самария.

18 A nd he saith, `If for peace they have come out -- catch them alive; and if for battle they have come out -- alive catch them.'

А той каза: Ако са излезли с мир, хванете ги живи, или ако са излезли за бой, пак живи ги заловете.

19 A nd these have gone out of the city -- the young men of the heads of the provinces -- and the force that after them,

И така, слугите на областните управители и войската, която ги следваше, излязоха от града.

20 a nd smite each his man, and Aram fleeth, and Israel pursueth them, and Ben-Hadad king of Aram escapeth on a horse, and the horsemen;

И всеки уби човека насреща му. И сирийците побегнаха, а Израел ги последва. А сирийският цар Венадад се отърва на кон с конниците.

21 a nd the king of Israel goeth out, and smiteth the horses, and the charioteers, and hath smitten among the Aramaeans a great smiting.

Тогава Израелевият цар излезе и порази бягащите с коне и с колесниците, и нанесе на сирийците голямо поражение.

22 A nd the prophet cometh nigh unto the king of Israel, and saith to him, `Go, strengthen thyself, and know and see that which thou dost, for at the turn of the year the king of Aram is coming up against thee.'

След това пророкът дойде при Израелевия цар и му каза: Иди, укрепи се; размисли и внимавай какво да направиш, защото, след като измине една година, сирийският цар отново ще дойде против теб.

23 A nd the servants of the king of Aram said unto him, `Gods of hills their gods, therefore they were stronger than we; and yet, we fight with them in the plain -- are we not stronger than they?

А слугите на сирийския цар му казаха: Техният Бог е планински бог, затова израелтяните надделяха над нас; но ако се бием с тях на полето, непременно ние ще надделеем над тях.

24 ` And this thing do thou: turn aside the kings each out of his place, and set captains in their stead;

Затова ето какво да направим: Отстрани всеки от царете от мястото му и вместо тях постави военачалници.

25 a nd thou, number to thee a force as the force that is fallen from thee, and horse for horse, and chariot for chariot, and we fight with them in the plain; are we not stronger than they?' and he hearkeneth to their voice, and doth so.

После ти събери войска, колкото войската, която изгуби - кон за кон, колесница за колесница; и нека се бием с тях на полето и непременно ще надделеем над тях. И той послуша съвета им и направи така.

26 A nd it cometh to pass at the turn of the year, that Ben-Hadad inspecteth the Aramaeans, and goeth up to Aphek, to battle with Israel,

Тогава, след като измина една година, Венадад събра сирийците и излезе в Афек, за да се бие с Израел.

27 a nd the sons of Israel have been inspected, and supported, and go to meet them, and the sons of Israel encamp before them, like two flocks of goats, and the Aramaeans have filled the land.

А израелтяните, като бяха събрани и запасени с храна, отидоха насреща им. Израелтяните разположиха стана си срещу тях като две малки кози стада, а сирийците изпълниха страната.

28 A nd there cometh nigh a man of God, and speaketh unto the king of Israel, and saith, `Thus said Jehovah, Because that the Aramaeans have said, God of hills Jehovah, and He not God of valleys -- I have given the whole of this great multitude into thy hand, and ye have known that I Jehovah.'

Тогава Божият човек дойде и каза на Израелевия цар: Така говори Господ: Понеже сирийците казаха: Йехова е Бог на планините, а не Бог на долините, затова ще предам в ръката ти цялото това голямо множество; и ще познаете, че Аз съм Йехова.

29 A nd they encamp one over-against another seven days, and it cometh to pass on the seventh day, that the battle draweth near, and the sons of Israel smite Aram -- a hundred thousand footmen in one day.

Войските стояха разположени на стан една срещу друга седем дни, а на седмия ден влязоха в бой. И израелтяните избиха от сирийците сто хиляди пехотинци за един ден.

30 A nd those left flee to Aphek, unto the city, and the wall falleth on twenty and seven chief men who are left, and Ben-Hadad hath fled, and cometh in unto the city, into the innermost part.

А останалите, като побегнаха в Афек, в града, стената падна върху двадесет и седем хиляди от останалите мъже. Побегна и Венадад и влезе в града, където се криеше от стая в стая.

31 A nd his servants say unto him, `Lo, we pray thee, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel -- that they are kind kings; let us put, we pray thee, sackcloth on our loins, and ropes on our heads, and we go out unto the king of Israel; it may be he doth keep thee alive.'

Тогава слугите му му казаха: Чули сме, че царете от Израелевия дом били милостиви. Нека сложим вретища на кръстовете си и въжета на главите си и нека излезем при Израелевия цар, дано да ти пощади живота.

32 A nd they gird sackcloth on their loins, and ropes on their heads, and they come in unto the king of Israel, and say, `Thy servant Ben-Hadad hath said, Let me live, I pray thee;' and he saith, `Is he yet alive? he my brother.'

И така, като се препасаха с вретища около кръстовете си и сложиха въжета на главите си, дойдоха при Израелевия цар и му казаха: Слугата ти Венадад казва: Моля ти се, остави ме да живея. А Ахаав запита: Жив ли е още? Той е мой брат.

33 A nd the men observe diligently, and hasten, and catch it from him, and say, `Thy brother Ben-Hadad;' and he saith, `Go ye in, bring him;' and Ben-Hadad cometh out unto him, and he causeth him to come up on the chariot.

А мъжете приеха това като добър знак и побързаха да се хванат за думите му, и казаха: Венадад ти е брат. Ахаав нареди: Идете, доведете го. И когато Венадад дойде при него, той го качи на колесницата си.

34 A nd he saith unto him, `The cities that my father took from thy father, I give back, and streets thou dost make for thee in Damascus, as my father did in Samaria;' -- `and I, with a covenant, send thee away;' and he maketh with him a covenant, and sendeth him away.

Тогава Венадад му каза: Градовете, които баща ми превзе от твоя баща, ще ти ги върна. Ти си направѝ улици в Дамаск, както си направи баща ми в Самария. А Ахаав отговори: И аз ще те пусна с този договор. Така сключи договор с него и го освободи.

35 A nd a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his neighbour by the word of Jehovah, `Smite me, I pray thee;' and the man refuseth to smite him,

Тогава един човек от пророческите ученици каза на другаря си чрез Господнето слово: Ударѝ ме, моля те! Но човекът отказа да го удари.

36 a nd he saith to him, `Because that thou hast not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah, lo, thou art going from me, and the lion hath smitten thee;' and he goeth from him, and the lion findeth him, and smiteth him.

Затова той му каза: Понеже ти не послуша Господния глас, щом си тръгнеш от мене, лъв ще те убие. И щом онзи си тръгна, лъв го нападна и го уби.

37 A nd he findeth another man, and saith, `Smite me, I pray thee;' and the man smiteth him, smiting and wounding,

После той намери друг човек и му каза: Ударѝ ме, моля те! И човекът го удари и с удара го нарани.

38 a nd the prophet goeth and standeth for the king on the way, and disguiseth himself with ashes on his eyes.

Тогава пророкът си отиде и чакаше по пътя за царя, като се беше преоблякъл с покривало на очите си.

39 A nd it cometh to pass -- the king is passing by -- that he hath cried unto the king, and saith, `Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle, and lo, a man hath turned aside and bringeth in unto me a man, and saith, Keep this man; if he be at all missing, then hath thy life been for his life, or a talent of silver thou dost weigh out;

И когато царят минаваше, той извика на царя: Слугата ти отиде сред сражението; и един човек, като се отдели настрана, доведе друг човек при мен и ми каза: Пази този човек. Ако побегне, тогава твоят живот ще бъде вместо неговия живот или ще платиш един талант сребро.

40 a nd it cometh to pass, thy servant is working hither and thither, and he is not!' and the king of Israel saith unto him, Right thy judgment; thou hast determined.'

Докато слугата ти се занимаваше тук-там, човекът избяга. А Израелевият цар му каза: Ето присъдата ти; ти сам си я изрекъл.

41 A nd he hasteth and turneth aside the ashes from off his eyes, and the king of Israel discerneth him, that he of the prophets,

Тогава той побърза да вдигне покривалото от очите си. И Израелевият цар го позна, че беше един от пророците.

42 a nd he saith unto him, `Thus said Jehovah, Because thou hast sent away the man I devoted, out of hand, even thy life hath been for his life, and thy people for his people;'

А той му каза: Така казва Господ: Понеже ти пусна от ръката си човека, когото Аз бях обрекъл на погубване, затова твоят живот ще бъде вместо неговия живот и твоят народ - вместо неговия народ.

43 a nd the king of Israel goeth unto his house, sulky and wroth, and cometh in to Samaria.

И Израелевият цар пристигна в Самария и отиде у дома си тъжен и огорчен.
