1 A nd Jehovah saith unto Joshua, `Fear not, nor be affrighted, take with thee all the people of war, and rise, go up to Ai; see, I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land,

След това Господ каза на Исус: Не бой се, нито се ужасявай! Вземи със себе си всичките военни мъже, стани и се изкачи в Гай. Аз предадох в ръката ти гайския цар, народа му, града му и земята му;

2 a nd thou hast done to Ai and to her king as thou hast done to Jericho and to her king; only, its spoil and its cattle ye spoil for yourselves; set for thee an ambush for the city at its rear.'

и да сториш на Гай и царя му, както стори на Йерихон и царя му; само че ще вземете за себе си плячката и добитъка. Постави против града засада от задната му страна.

3 A nd Joshua riseth, and all the people of war, to go up to Ai, and Joshua chooseth thirty thousand men, mighty ones of valour, and sendeth them away by night,

Тогава Исус тръгна с всичките военни мъже, за да отиде в Гай. Той избра тридесет хиляди мъже, силни и храбри, изпрати ги през нощта

4 a nd commandeth them, saying, `See, ye are liers in wait against the city, at the rear of the city, ye go not very far off from the city, and all of you have been prepared,

и им заповяда: Внимавайте, поставете засада против града от задната му страна. Не се отдалечавайте много от града и бъдете готови,

5 a nd I and all the people who with me draw near unto the city, and it hath come to pass when they come out to meet us as at the first, and we have fled before them,

а аз и всички хора, които с мене, ще се приближим до града. И когато гайците излязат против нас, както преди, тогава ние ще побегнем от тях.

6 a nd they have come out after us till we have drawn them out of the city, for they say, They are fleeing before us as at the first, and we have fled before them,

Те ще тръгнат след нас, докато ги отдалечим от града; защото ще си кажат: Те бягат от нас, както преди; и ние ще побегнем от тях.

7 a nd ye rise from the ambush, and have occupied the city, and Jehovah your God hath given it into your hand;

Тогава вие ще вдигнете засадата и ще превземете града; защото Господ, вашият Бог, ще го предаде в ръката ви.

8 a nd it hath been, when ye capture the city, ye burn the city with fire, according to the word of Jehovah ye do, see, I have commanded you.'

След като превземете града, запалете го, направете, както Господ ви заповяда; ето, заповядах ви.

9 A nd Joshua sendeth them away, and they go unto the ambush, and abide between Bethel and Ai, on the west of Ai; and Joshua lodgeth on that night in the midst of the people.

И така, Исус ги изпрати; и те се скриха в засада. Установиха се между Ветил и Гай на запад от Гай; а Исус остана през онази нощ с народа.

10 A nd Joshua riseth early in the morning, and inspecteth the people, and goeth up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai;

Исус, като стана рано на сутринта и прегледа народа, застана с Израелевите старейшини отпред и тръгнаха към Гай.

11 a nd all the people of war who with him have gone up, and draw nigh and come in over-against the city, and encamp on the north of Ai; and the valley between him and Ai.

И всичките военни мъже, които бяха с него, се приближиха до града и разположиха стан на север от Гай. Между тях и Гай имаше долина.

12 A nd he taketh about five thousand men, and setteth them an ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west of the city;

Исус взе около пет хиляди мъже и постави засада между Ветил и Гай на запад от града.

13 a nd they set the people, all the camp which on the north of the city, and its rear on the west of the city, and Joshua goeth on that night into the midst of the valley.

След като строиха народа - цялото войнство, което беше на север от града, както и засадата на запад от града, - Исус отиде през онази нощ в долината.

14 A nd it cometh to pass, when the king of Ai seeth, that hasten, and rise early, and go out do the men of the city to meet Israel for battle, he and all his people, at the appointed season, at the front of the plain, and he hath not known that an ambush against him, on the rear of the city.

А гайският цар, като видя това, побърза, той и неговите хора, мъжете на града, и станаха рано, и в определен час излязоха на полето на бой против Израел. Царят обаче не знаеше, че има засада против него зад града.

15 A nd Joshua and all Israel stricken before them, and flee the way of the wilderness,

А Исус и целият Израел се престориха на разбити пред тях и побегнаха по пътя за пустинята.

16 a nd all the people who in the city are called to pursue after them, and they pursue after Joshua, and are drawn away out of the city,

И всичките гайци бяха свикани, за да ги гонят. Като гонеха Исус, гайците се отдалечиха от града.

17 a nd there hath not been left a man in Ai and Bethel who hath not gone out after Israel, and they leave the city open, and pursue after Israel.

Така в Гай и Ветил не остана никой. Всички излязоха след Израел; те оставиха града отворен и преследваха Израел.

18 A nd Jehovah saith unto Joshua, `Stretch out with the javelin which in thy hand towards Ai, for into thy hand I give it;' and Joshua stretcheth out with the javelin which in his hand toward the city,

Тогава Господ каза на Исус: Простри към Гай копието, което държиш, защото ще предам града в ръката ти. И така, Исус простря към града копието, което държеше в ръката си.

19 a nd the ambush hath risen haste, out of its place, and they run at the stretching out of his hand, and go into the city, and capture it, and hasten, and burn the city with fire.

И щом протегна ръката си, засадата се вдигна бързо от мястото си, нахлуха внезапно в града, превзеха го и побързаха да го запалят.

20 A nd the men of Ai look behind them, and see, and lo, the smoke of the city hath gone up unto the heavens, and there hath not been in them power to flee hither and thither -- and the people who are fleeing to the wilderness have turned against the pursuer, --

А когато гайските мъже погледнаха назад, видяха, че от града се издига дим към небето; и нямаха къде да бягат - нито напред, нито назад, понеже народът, който бягаше към пустинята, се обърна назад против преследвачите си.

21 a nd Joshua and all Israel have seen that the ambush hath captured the city, and that the smoke of the city hath gone up, and they turn back and smite the men of Ai;

А Исус и целият Израел, като видяха, че хората от засадата бяха превзели града и че оттам се издига дим, се обърнаха назад и поразиха гайските мъже.

22 a nd these have come out from the city to meet them, and they are in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that, and they smite them till he hath not left to them a remnant and escaped one;

Другите също излязоха от града против гайците; и така, те се намериха между израелтяните, които бяха от двете им страни; и израелтяните поразиха гайците така, че не оставиха никого жив или да избяга.

23 a nd the king of Ai they caught alive, and bring him near unto Joshua.

А царя на Гай хванаха жив и го доведоха при Исус.

24 A nd it cometh to pass, at Israel's finishing to slay all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness in which they pursued them (and they fall all of them by the mouth of the sword till their consumption), that all Israel turn back to Ai, and smite it by the mouth of the sword;

Израел изби всичките жители на Гай в полето и пустинята, докъдето ги гонеха, и те всички паднаха от меча, докато бяха унищожени. Тогава целият Израел се върна в Гай и поразиха града с острието на меча.

25 a nd all who fall during the day, of men and of women, are twelve thousand -- all men of Ai.

И всичките загинали в онзи ден, мъже и жени, бяха дванадесет хиляди души, всичките гайци.

26 A nd Joshua hath not brought back his hand which he stretched out with the javelin till that he hath devoted all the inhabitants of Ai;

Защото Исус не прибра ръката си, с която беше прострял копието, докато не унищожи като обречени всичките жители на Гай.

27 o nly, the cattle and the spoil of that city have Israel spoiled for themselves, according to the word of Jehovah which He commanded Joshua.

Израел остави за себе си добитъка и плячката на Гай, както Господ заповяда на Исус.

28 A nd Joshua burneth Ai, and maketh it a heap age-during -- a desolation unto this day;

И така, Исус изгори Гай и го направи завинаги куп развалини, както е до днес.

29 a nd the king of Ai he hath hanged on the tree till even-time, and at the going in of the sun hath Joshua commanded, and they take down his carcase from the tree, and cast it unto the opening of the gate of the city, and raise over it a great heap of stones till this day.

А царя на Гай обеси на дърво и го остави да виси до вечерта. След като слънцето залезе, Исус заповяда да снемат трупа му от дървото и да го хвърлят във входа на градската порта, и натрупаха върху него голяма грамада камъни, която е там и до днес.

30 T hen doth Joshua build an altar to Jehovah, God of Israel, in mount Ebal,

Тогава Исус издигна жертвеник на Господа, Израелевия Бог, на хълма Гевал,

31 a s Moses, servant of Jehovah, commanded the sons of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses -- an altar of whole stones, over which he hath not waved iron -- and they cause to go up upon it burnt-offerings to Jehovah, and sacrifice peace-offerings;

както Господният слуга Моисей беше заповядал на израелтяните според написаното в книгата на Моисеевия закон - жертвеник от цели камъни, по които желязно сечиво не се беше допирало; и принесоха на него всеизгаряния на Господа и пожертваха мирни приноси.

32 a nd he writeth there on the stones the copy of the law of Moses, which he hath written in the presence of the sons of Israel.

Там, на камъните, пред израелтяните, Исус написа един препис на Моисеевия закон.

33 A nd all Israel, and its elders, and authorities, and its judges, are standing on this side and on that of the ark, over-against the priests, the Levites, bearing the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, as well the sojourner as the native, half of them over-against mount Gerizim, and the half of them over-against mount Ebal, as Moses servant of Jehovah commanded to bless the people of Israel at the first.

И целият Израел със старейшините им, първенците и съдиите им, чужденци и местни застанаха от двете страни на ковчега срещу левитските свещеници, които държаха ковчега на Господния завет, половината от страната на хълма Гаризин и половината от страната на хълма Гевал, както Господният слуга Моисей беше заповядал най-напред, за да благословят Израелевия народ.

34 A nd afterwards he hath proclaimed all the words of the law, the blessing and the reviling, according to all that is written in the book of the law;

След това Исус прочете всичките думи на закона, благословенията и проклятията според това, което беше написано в Книгата на закона.

35 t here hath not been a thing of all that Moses commanded which Joshua hath not proclaimed before all the assembly of Israel, and the women, and the infants, and the sojourner who is going in their midst.

От всичко, което заповяда Моисей, нямаше дума, която Исус да не прочете пред всичките събрани израелтяни с жените, децата и чужденците, които се намираха между тях.
