1 A nd Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

El Señor habló con Moisés, y le dijo:

2 ` Execute the vengeance of the sons of Israel against the Midianites -- afterwards thou art gathered unto thy people.'

«Toma venganza por los hijos de Israel en contra de los madianitas. Después de eso, irás a reunirte con tus antepasados.»

3 A nd Moses speaketh unto the people, saying, `Be ye armed some of you for the host, and they are against Midian, to put the vengeance of Jehovah on Midian;

Moisés fue entonces a hablar con el pueblo, y les dijo: «Tomen sus armas algunos de ustedes, y vayan a pelear contra Madián. Vamos a tomar venganza de ellos en nombre del Señor.

4 a thousand for a tribe -- a thousand for a tribe, to all the tribes of Israel -- ye do send to the host.'

Cada una de las doce tribus de Israel debe enviar a la guerra mil soldados.»

5 A nd there are given out of the thousands of Israel a thousand for a tribe, twelve thousand armed ones of the host;

Fue así como de las legiones de Israel se formó un ejército de doce mil soldados en pie de guerra, a razón de mil por cada tribu.

6 a nd Moses sendeth them, a thousand for a tribe, to the host, them and Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest, to the host; and the holy vessels, and the trumpets of the shouting, in his hand.

A esos mil de cada tribu los envió Moisés a la guerra. Finés, el hijo del sacerdote Eleazar, fue a la guerra con ellos, llevando en sus manos los vasos del santuario y las trompetas para tocarlas.

7 A nd they war against Midian, as Jehovah hath commanded Moses, and slay every male;

Y los israelitas pelearon contra Madián, tal y como el Señor se lo ordenó a Moisés, y mataron a todos sus hombres.

8 a nd the kings of Midian they have slain, besides their pierced ones, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian; and Balaam son of Beor, they have slain with the sword.

Entre ellos mataron también a los cinco reyes de Madián, es decir, a Evi, Requén, Sur, Jur y Reba, y mataron también a filo de espada a Balaam hijo de Beor.

9 A nd the sons of Israel take captive the women of Midian, and their infants; and all their cattle, and all their substance, and all their wealth they have plundered;

Los israelitas se llevaron cautivas a las mujeres de los madianitas, y a sus niños, y les arrebataron todos sus bienes, lo mismo que todas sus bestias y todos sus ganados,

10 a nd all their cities, with their habitations, and all their towers, they have burnt with fire.

e incendiaron todas las ciudades y aldeas donde habitaban.

11 A nd they take all the spoil, and all the prey, among man and among beast;

Recogieron todos los despojos, y todo el botín de guerra, tanto de hombres como de animales,

12 a nd they bring in, unto Moses, and unto Eleazar the priest, and unto the company of the sons of Israel, the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto the camp, unto the plains of Moab, which by Jordan, Jericho.

y todo se lo llevaron a Moisés y al sacerdote Eleazar, y a la congregación de los hijos de Israel. Los cautivos, el botín y los despojos los llevaron al campamento, el cual estaba en los llanos de Moab, junto al Jordán y frente a Jericó.

13 A nd Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the company, go out to meet them, unto the outside of the camp,

Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar, y todos los príncipes de la congregación, salieron a recibirlos fuera del campamento.

14 a nd Moses is wroth against the inspectors of the force, chiefs of the thousands, and chiefs of the hundreds, who are coming in from the host of the battle.

Pero Moisés se enojó contra los capitanes del ejército y contra los jefes de miles y centenas que volvían de la guerra.

15 A nd Moses saith unto them, `Have ye kept alive every female?

Les reclamó: «¿Por qué dejaron con vida a todas las mujeres?

16 l o, they -- they have been to the sons of Israel, through the word of Balaam, to cause a trespass against Jehovah in the matter of Peor, and the plague is in the company of Jehovah.

Por culpa de Balaam y de sus consejos ellas fueron la causa de que los hijos de Israel pecaran contra el Señor en relación con Baal Pegor. ¡Por eso hubo tan gran mortandad en la congregación del Señor!

17 ` And now, slay ye every male among the infants, yea, every woman known of man by the lying of a male ye have slain;

Así que, ahora, maten a todos los niños varones, y maten también a toda mujer que haya tenido relaciones carnales con algún hombre.

18 a nd all the infants among the women, who have not known the lying of a male, ye have kept alive for yourselves.

Sólo dejen con vida a todas las niñas que aún sean vírgenes.

19 ` And ye, encamp ye at the outside of the camp seven days -- any who hath slain a person, and any who hath come against a pierced one, ye cleanse yourselves on the third day, and on the seventh day -- ye and your captives;

En cuanto a ustedes, cualquiera que haya dado muerte a otro, y cualquiera que haya tocado algún cadáver, se quedará fuera del campamento siete días. Al tercer día, y al séptimo, tanto ustedes como sus cautivos deberán purificarse,

20 a nd every garment, and every skin vessel, and every work of goats', and every wooden vessel, ye yourselves cleanse.'

y también deberán purificar todo vestido, toda prenda de piel, todo tejido de pelo de cabra, y todo utensilio de madera.» Repartición del botín

21 A nd Eleazar the priest saith unto the men of the host who go in to battle, `This the statute of the law which Jehovah hath commanded Moses:

Por su parte, el sacerdote Eleazar les dijo a los soldados que volvían del combate: «Ésta es la ordenanza de la ley que el Señor le ha dado a Moisés:

22 o nly, the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead,

Todo el oro y la plata, y el bronce, el hierro, el estaño y el plomo,

23 e very thing which may go into fire, ye cause to pass over through fire, and it hath been clean; only, with the water of separation it is cleansed, and all that may not go into fire, ye cause to pass over through water;

y todo lo que resista el fuego, tendrán que pasarlo por el fuego para purificarlo, aunque también tendrá que purificarse en las aguas de purificación. Todo lo que no resista el fuego tendrán que pasarlo por el agua.

24 a nd ye have washed your garments on the seventh day, and have been clean, and afterwards ye come in unto the camp.'

Además, el séptimo día lavarán sus vestidos, y así serán purificados. Después de eso, podrán entrar en el campamento.»

25 A nd Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

El Señor habló con Moisés, y le dijo:

26 ` Take up the sum of the prey of the captives, among man and among beast, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the heads of the fathers of the company;

«Hagan tú y el sacerdote Eleazar, junto con los jefes de los padres de la congregación, una relación del botín que se ha capturado, tanto de la gente como de los animales,

27 a nd thou hast halved the prey between those handling the battle who go out to the host and all the company;

y repártelo entre los que salieron a la guerra y entre toda la congregación.

28 a nd thou hast raised a tribute to Jehovah from the men of war, who go out to the host, one body out of five hundred, of man, and of the herd, and of the asses, and of the flock;

Del tributo de los que salieron a la guerra, apartarás para mí uno de cada quinientos hombres y uno de cada quinientos bueyes, asnos y ovejas.

29 f rom their half ye do take, and thou hast given to Eleazar the priest -- the heave-offering of Jehovah.

Los tomarás de la parte que les toque, y se los darás al sacerdote Eleazar como la ofrenda que me corresponde.

30 ` And from the sons of Israel's half thou dost take one possession out of fifty, of man, of the herd, of the asses, and of the flock, of all the cattle, and thou hast given them to the Levites keeping the charge of the tabernacle of Jehovah.'

De la parte que les toque a los hijos de Israel tomarás una de cada cincuenta personas, y uno de cada cincuenta bueyes, asnos y ovejas, y de cualquier otro animal. Todo esto se lo darás a los levitas, que tienen a su cargo mi tabernáculo.»

31 A nd Moses doth -- Eleazar the priest also -- as Jehovah hath commanded Moses.

Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar hicieron tal y como el Señor se lo ordenó a Moisés.

32 A nd the prey, the residue of the spoil which the people of the host have spoiled, is of the flock six hundred thousand, and seventy thousand, and five thousand;

Y el resto del botín que tomaron los soldados fue de seiscientas setenta y cinco mil ovejas,

33 a nd of the herd two and seventy thousand;

setenta y dos mil bueyes,

34 a nd of asses one and sixty thousand;

y sesenta y un mil asnos.

35 a nd of human beings -- of the women who have not known the lying of a male -- all the persons two and thirty thousand.

En cuanto a las mujeres que todavía eran vírgenes, eran un total de treinta y dos mil.

36 A nd the half -- the portion of those who go out into the host -- the number of the flock is three hundred thousand, and thirty thousand, and seven thousand and five hundred.

La parte que correspondía a los que habían salido a la guerra fue de trescientas treinta y siete mil quinientas ovejas,

37 A nd the tribute to Jehovah of the sheep is six hundred five and seventy;

y el tributo de las ovejas para el Señor fue de seiscientas setenta y cinco.

38 a nd the herd six and thirty thousand, and their tribute to Jehovah two and seventy;

Los bueyes sumaron treinta y seis mil, de los cuales setenta y dos fueron el tributo para el Señor.

39 a nd the asses thirty thousand and five hundred, and their tribute to Jehovah one and sixty;

Los asnos eran treinta mil quinientos, de los cuales sesenta y uno fueron el tributo para el Señor.

40 a nd the human beings sixteen thousand, and their tribute to Jehovah two and thirty persons.

Las personas fueron dieciséis mil, de las cuales treinta y dos personas fueron el tributo para el Señor.

41 A nd Moses giveth the tribute -- Jehovah's heave-offering -- to Eleazar the priest, as Jehovah hath commanded Moses.

Moisés entregó el tributo al sacerdote Eleazar, como ofrenda elevada para el Señor, tal y como el Señor se lo ordenó a Moisés.

42 A nd of the sons of Israel's half, which Moses halved from the men who war --

Luego Moisés apartó, de los que habían ido a la guerra, la parte que les correspondía a los hijos de Israel.

43 a nd the company's half is, of the flock three hundred thousand, and thirty thousand, seven thousand and five hundred;

(La parte que le correspondió a la congregación fue de trescientas treinta y siete mil quinientas ovejas,

44 a nd of the herd six and thirty thousand;

treinta y seis mil bueyes,

45 a nd of asses thirty thousand and five hundred;

treinta mil quinientos asnos,

46 a nd of human beings sixteen thousand --

y dieciséis mil personas.)

47 M oses taketh from the sons of Israel's half the one possession from the fifty, of man and of beast, and giveth them to the Levites keeping the charge of the tabernacle of Jehovah, as Jehovah hath commanded Moses.

De la parte correspondiente a los hijos de Israel, Moisés tomó una de cada cincuenta personas y uno de cada cincuenta animales, y se los dio a los levitas, los cuales tenían a su cargo el tabernáculo del Señor, tal y como el Señor se lo había ordenado.

48 A nd the inspectors whom the thousands of the host hath, (heads of the thousands and heads of the hundreds), draw near unto Moses,

Después los jefes de aquel ejército, es decir, los jefes de millares y de centenas, fueron a ver a Moisés

49 a nd they say unto Moses, `Thy servants have taken up the sum of the men of war who with us, and not a man of us hath been missed;

y le dijeron: «Tus siervos han pasado revista de los soldados que están bajo nuestro mando, y ninguno de nosotros falta.

50 a nd we bring near Jehovah's offering, each that which he hath found, vessels of gold -- chain, and bracelet, seal-ring, -ring, and bead -- to make atonement for ourselves before Jehovah.'

Por eso hemos decidido presentar al Señor una ofrenda de las alhajas de oro, brazaletes, manillas, anillos, zarcillos y cadenas que cada uno de nosotros ha hallado, para hacer expiación por nosotros delante del Señor.»

51 A nd Moses receiveth -- Eleazar the priest also -- the gold from them, every made vessel,

Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar recibieron de manos de ellos el oro y las alhajas,

52 a nd all the gold of the heave-offering which they have lifted up to Jehovah is sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels, from heads of the thousands, and from heads of the hundreds;

y todo el oro que los jefes de millares y de centenas ofrendaron al Señor pesó más de ciento ochenta y cuatro kilos.

53 ( the men of the host have spoiled each for himself);

Cada soldado había tomado botín para sí mismo.

54 a nd Moses taketh -- Eleazar the priest also -- the gold from the heads of the thousands and of the hundreds, and they bring it in unto the tent of meeting -- a memorial for the sons of Israel before Jehovah.

Así que Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar recibieron el oro de los jefes de millares y de centenas, y lo llevaron al tabernáculo de reunión, como memorial de los hijos de Israel delante del Señor.
