1 O n that night hath the sleep of the king fled away, and he saith to bring in the book of memorials of the Chronicles, and they are read before the king,

Aquella misma noche se le fue el sueño al rey, y pidió que le llevaran el libro de las memorias y crónicas, y que se las leyeran.

2 a nd it is found written that Mordecai had declared concerning Bigthana and Teresh, two of the eunuchs of the king, of the keepers of the threshold, who sought to put forth a hand on king Ahasuerus.

Se encontró entonces escrito que Mardoqueo había denunciado el complot de Bigtán y de Teres, dos de los eunucos del rey y guardianes de la puerta, que habían hecho planes contra el rey Asuero.

3 A nd the king saith, `What honour and greatness hath been done to Mordecai for this?' And the servants of the king, his ministers, say, `Nothing hath been done with him.'

Y preguntó el rey: «¿Qué honra o qué distinción se le hizo a Mardoqueo por este servicio?» Y los servidores del rey, sus oficiales, respondieron: «No se le ha hecho ninguna distinción.»

4 A nd the king saith, `Who in the court?' -- and Haman hath come in to the outer court of the house of the king, to say to the king to hang Mordecai on the tree that he had prepared for him --

En eso dijo el rey: «¿Quién anda en el patio?» Amán había venido al patio exterior de la casa real, pues quería hablar con el rey para pedirle que mandara colgar a Mardoqueo en la horca que ya le tenía preparada.

5 a nd the servants of the king say unto him, `Lo, Haman is standing in the court;' and the king saith, `Let him come in.'

Los servidores del rey le respondieron: «Es Amán, que está en el patio.» Y el rey ordenó: «Háganlo pasar.»

6 A nd Haman cometh in, and the king saith to him, `What -- to do with the man in whose honour the king hath delighted?' And Haman saith in his heart, `To whom doth the king delight to do honour more than myself?'

Amán entró, y el rey le dijo: «¿Qué debe hacerse con el hombre a quien el rey desea honrar?» Y Amán pensó: «¿A quién más puede el rey querer honrar, sino a mí?»

7 A nd Haman saith unto the king, `The man in whose honour the king hath delighted,

Así que le respondió: «Para el varón al quien el rey desea honrar,

8 l et them bring in royal clothing that the king hath put on himself, and a horse on which the king hath ridden, and that the royal crown be put on his head,

debe traerse el vestido real que el rey porta, el caballo que el rey cabalga, y la corona real que el rey lleva en su cabeza.

9 a nd to give the clothing and the horse into the hand of a man of the heads of the king, the chiefs, and they have clothed the man in whose honour the king hath delighted, and caused him to ride on the horse in a broad place of the city, and called before him: Thus it is done to the man in whose honour the king hath delighted.'

El vestido real y el caballo debe ponerse en las manos de alguno de los principales nobles de la corona, para que éste vista al varón a quien el rey desea honrar, y lo pasee en el caballo por la plaza de la ciudad, y pregone delante de él: “Así se hace con el varón a quien el rey desea honrar.”»

10 A nd the king saith to Haman, `Haste, take the clothing and the horse, as thou hast spoken, and do so to Mordecai the Jew, who is sitting in the gate of the king; there doth not fall a thing of all that thou hast spoken.'

Entonces el rey le dijo a Amán: «¡Date prisa! Toma el vestido y el caballo, y lo que has dicho, hazlo con el judío Mardoqueo, que se sienta a la puerta real. No dejes de hacer nada de todo lo que has dicho.»

11 A nd Haman taketh the clothing, and the horse, and clothed Mordecai, and causeth him to ride in a broad place of the city, and calleth before him, `Thus it is done to the man in whose honour the king hath delighted.'

Amán tomó el vestido y el caballo, y vistió a Mardoqueo, y lo paseó a caballo por la plaza de la ciudad, y delante de él pregonaba: «Así se hace con el varón a quien el rey desea honrar.»

12 A nd Mordecai turneth back unto the gate of the king, and Haman hath been hastened unto his house mourning, and with covered head,

Después de esto, Mardoqueo volvió a sentarse a la puerta real, mientras que Amán regresó rápidamente a su casa, muy triste y cubriéndose la cara.

13 a nd Haman recounteth to Zeresh his wife, and to all his friends, all that hath met him, and his wise men say to him, and Zeresh his wife, `If Mordecai of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou art not able for him, but dost certainly fall before him.'

Al llegar, Amán les contó a Zeres, su mujer, y a todos sus amigos, todo lo que le había acontecido. Entonces sus sabios y su mujer le dijeron: «Si ese Mardoqueo es descendiente de los judíos, y has comenzado a caer, no lo podrás vencer, sino que caerás derrotado ante él.»

14 T hey are yet speaking with him, and eunuchs of the king have come, and haste to bring in Haman unto the banquet that Esther hath made.

Todavía estaban ellos hablando con Amán cuando los eunucos del rey llegaron de prisa para llevarlo al banquete que Ester había preparado.
