1 A nd Naomi hath an acquaintance of her husband's, a man mighty in wealth, of the family of Elimelech, and his name Boaz.

Noemí tenía, por parte de su marido, un pariente que se llamaba Booz. Era un hombre muy rico, de la familia de Elimelec.

2 A nd Ruth the Moabitess saith unto Naomi, `Let me go, I pray thee, into the field, and I gather among the ears of corn after him in whose eyes I find grace;' and she saith to her, `Go, my daughter.'

Un día, Rut le dijo a Noemí: «Por favor, déjame ir al campo, a recoger espigas. Iré detrás de quien bondadosamente me deje recogerlas.» Y Noemí le respondió: «Ve, hija mía.»

3 A nd she goeth and cometh and gathereth in a field after the reapers, and her chance happeneth -- the portion of the field is Boaz's who of the family of Elimelech.

Rut fue al campo y recogió espigas siguiendo a los segadores. Y resultó que aquella parte del campo era de Booz, el familiar de Elimelec.

4 A nd lo, Boaz hath come from Beth-Lehem, and saith to the reapers, `Jehovah with you;' and they say to him, `Jehovah doth bless thee.'

De pronto, Booz llegó de Belén y saludó a los segadores. Les dijo: «Que el Señor esté con ustedes.» Y ellos le respondieron: «Que el Señor te bendiga.»

5 A nd Boaz saith to his young man who is set over the reapers, `Whose this young person?'

Luego, Booz le preguntó al mayordomo de sus segadores: «¿De quién es esa joven?»

6 A nd the young man who is set over the reapers answereth and saith, `A young woman -- Moabitess -- she, who came back with Naomi from the fields of Moab,

Y el mayordomo le respondió: «Es la moabita que volvió con Noemí de los campos de Moab.

7 a nd she saith, Let me glean, I pray thee -- and I have gathered among the sheaves after the reapers; and she cometh and remaineth since the morning and till now; she sat in the house a little.

Nos pidió que la dejáramos ir tras los segadores y recoger lo que se va dejando entre las gavillas. Y desde esta mañana que entró en el campo, no ha descansado ni siquiera un momento.»

8 A nd Boaz saith unto Ruth, `Hast thou not heard, my daughter? go not to glean in another field, and also, pass not over from this, and thus thou dost cleave to my young women:

Entonces Booz le dijo a Rut: «Escucha, hija mía; no te vayas de aquí, ni vayas a espigar a otro campo. Quédate aquí, con mis criadas.

9 t hine eyes on the field which they reap, and thou hast gone after them; have not I charged the young men not to touch thee? when thou art athirst then thou hast gone unto the vessels, and hast drunk from that which the young men draw.'

Fíjate en qué campo van a segar, y síguelas. Ya he dado órdenes a mis criados de que no te molesten. Cuando tengas sed, ve adonde están las vasijas, y bebe del agua que saquen los criados.»

10 A nd she falleth on her face, and boweth herself to the earth, and saith unto him, `Wherefore have I found grace in thine eyes, to discern me, and I a stranger?'

Rut se inclinó hasta el suelo en señal de respeto, y le preguntó: «¿Cómo es qué me tratas con tanta bondad e interés, si yo soy una extranjera?»

11 A nd Boaz answereth and saith to her, `It hath thoroughly been declared to me all that thou hast done with thy mother-in-law, after the death of thy husband, and thou dost leave thy father, and thy mother, and the land of thy birth, and dost come in unto a people which thou hast not known heretofore.

Y Booz le respondió: «Ya sé todo lo que has hecho en favor de tu suegra, después de que murió tu marido. Sé también que dejaste a tu padre y a tu madre, y la tierra donde naciste, para venir a un pueblo para ti desconocido.

12 J ehovah doth recompense thy work, and thy reward is complete from Jehovah, God of Israel, under whose wings thou hast come to take refuge.'

¡Que el Señor te recompense por lo que has hecho! ¡Que el Señor, bajo cuyas alas has buscado refugio, te premie por esta acción tuya!»

13 A nd she saith, `Let me find grace in thine eyes, my lord, because thou hast comforted me, and because thou hast spoken unto the heart of thy maid-servant, and I -- I am not as one of thy maid-servants.'

Rut le dijo: «Señor mío, espero ser digna de tu bondad. Tus palabras me infunden consuelo, pues me hablas con el corazón, aun cuando no puedo compararme a una sola de tus criadas.»

14 A nd Boaz saith to her, `At meal-time come nigh hither, and thou hast eaten of the bread, and dipped thy morsel in the vinegar.' And she sitteth at the side of the reapers, and he reacheth to her roasted corn, and she eateth, and is satisfied, and leaveth.

A la hora de comer, Booz le dijo: «Acércate. Toma un poco de pan, y mójalo en la salsa de vinagre, y come.» Rut se sentó junto a los segadores, y Booz compartió con ella lo que estaba comiendo, y ella comió hasta saciarse, y aun le sobró.

15 A nd she riseth to glean, and Boaz chargeth his young men, saying, `Even between the sheaves she doth glean, and ye do not cause her to blush;

Luego se levantó para seguir espigando. Mientras tanto, Booz les dijo a sus criados: «Déjenla recoger espigas también de entre las gavillas, y no la incomoden.

16 a nd also ye do surely cast to her of the handfuls -- and have left, and she hath gleaned, and ye do not push against her.'

Y dejen caer algo de los manojos, para que ella lo recoja, y no le digan nada en contra.»

17 A nd she gleaneth in the field till the evening, and beateth out that which she hath gleaned, and it is about an ephah of barley;

Y así, Rut recogió espigas en el campo hasta el anochecer, y de todo lo que había recogido desgranó como veinte litros de cebada,

18 a nd she taketh up, and goeth into the city, and her mother-in-law seeth that which she hath gleaned, and she bringeth out and giveth to her that which she left from her satiety.

y lo guardó y regresó a la ciudad. Al llegar, sacó también lo que le había sobrado después de comer, y se lo dio a su suegra. Y al ver Noemí todo lo que había recogido.

19 A nd her mother-in-law saith to her, `Where hast thou gleaned to-day? and where hast thou wrought? may he who is discerning thee be blessed.' And she declareth to her mother-in-law with whom she hath wrought, and saith, `The name of the man with whom I have wrought to-day Boaz.'

Le preguntó: «¿Dónde recogiste espigas hoy? ¿Dónde estuviste trabajando? ¡Bendito sea el que te ha tratado con tanta bondad!» Rut le contó a su suegra que había estado trabajando en el campo de un hombre llamado Booz.

20 A nd Naomi saith to her daughter-in-law, `Blessed he of Jehovah who hath not forsaken His kindness with the living and with the dead;' and Naomi saith to her, `The man is a relation of ours; he of our redeemers.'

Entonces Noemí le dijo: «¡Que el Señor lo bendiga! El Señor no nos ha retirado la bondad que mostró hacia nuestros muertos.» Luego añadió: «Ese hombre es pariente nuestro. Es uno de los que pueden rescatarnos.»

21 A nd Ruth the Moabitess saith, `Also he surely said unto me, Near the young people whom I have thou dost cleave till they have completed the whole of the harvest which I have.'

Y la moabita Rut contestó: «Ese hombre también me dijo: “Júntate con mis criadas, hasta que se acabe la cosecha.”»

22 A nd Naomi saith unto Ruth her daughter-in-law, `Good, my daughter, that thou goest out with his young women, and they come not against thee in another field.'

Noemí le dijo a Rut, su nuera: «Es mejor, hija mía, que espigues con sus criadas, y no que te molesten en otro campo.»

23 A nd she cleaveth to the young women of Boaz to glean, till the completion of the barley-harvest, and of the wheat-harvest, and she dwelleth with her mother-in-law.

Y Rut se quedó espigando con las criadas de Booz, hasta que terminaron de segar el trigo y la cebada. Mientras tanto, siguió viviendo con su suegra.
