1 A nd these the nations which Jehovah left, to try Israel by them, all who have not known all the wars of Canaan;

Éstos son los pueblos que el Señor dejó para poner a prueba a todos los israelitas que no habían sabido nada de las guerras de Canaán.

2 ( only for the sake of the generations of the sons of Israel's knowing, to teach them war, only those who formerly have not known them) --

El Señor los dejó sólo para que los descendientes de los israelitas aprendieran a pelear y enseñaran a quienes no habían combatido.

3 f ive princes of the Philistines, and all the Canaanite, and the Zidonian, and the Hivite inhabiting mount Lebanon, from mount Baal-Hermon unto the entering in of Hamath;

Eran cinco los jefes de los filisteos, cananeos, sidonios y jivitas que vivían en el monte Líbano, desde el monte de Baal Hermón hasta Jamat.

4 a nd they are to prove Israel by them, to know whether they obey the commands of Jehovah that He commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

El Señor los usó para poner a prueba a Israel y ver si obedecerían los mandamientos que había entregado a sus antepasados, por medio de Moisés.

5 A nd the sons of Israel have dwelt in the midst of the Canaanite, the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite,

Y los israelitas vivieron entre los cananeos, hititas, amorreos, ferezeos, jivitas y jebuseos,

6 a nd take their daughters to them for wives, and their daughters have given to their sons, and they serve their gods;

y se casaron con sus mujeres, y dejaron que sus hijas se casaran con hombres de esos pueblos, y rindieron culto a sus dioses. Otoniel libera a Israel de Cusán Risatayin

7 a nd the sons of Israel do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and forget Jehovah their God, and serve the Baalim and the shrines.

Pero los israelitas hicieron lo malo a los ojos del Señor, y se olvidaron de él por adorar a las imágenes de Baal y de Asera.

8 A nd the anger of Jehovah burneth against Israel, and He selleth them into the hand of Chushan-Rishathaim king of Aram-Naharaim, and the sons of Israel serve Chushan-Rishathaim eight years;

Eso provocó que la ira del Señor se encendiera contra Israel, y los dejó caer en manos de Cusán Risatayin, rey de Mesopotamia, a quien sirvieron durante ocho años.

9 a nd the sons of Israel cry unto Jehovah, and Jehovah raiseth a saviour to the sons of Israel, and he saveth them -- Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother;

Entonces los israelitas clamaron al Señor, y él los oyó y levantó como su libertador a Otoniel hijo de Cenaz, hermano menor de Caleb.

10 a nd the Spirit of Jehovah is upon him, and he judgeth Israel, and goeth out to battle, and Jehovah giveth unto his hand Chushan-Rishathaim king of Aram, and strong is his hand against Chushan-Rishathaim;

El espíritu del Señor estuvo con él cuando fue caudillo de Israel, y salió a pelear contra Cusán Risatayin, rey de Siria, y el Señor le dio la victoria y lo hizo vencer a Cusán Risatayin.

11 a nd the land resteth forty years. And Othniel son of Kenaz dieth,

Después de esto, hubo paz en la tierra durante cuarenta años, y murió Otoniel hijo de Cenaz. Aod libera a Israel de Moab

12 a nd the sons of Israel add to do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah; and Jehovah strengtheneth Eglon king of Moab against Israel, because that they have done the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah;

Los israelitas volvieron a hacer lo malo a los ojos del Señor, y por eso el Señor dejó que Eglón, rey de Moab, los venciera.

13 a nd he gathereth unto him the Bene-Ammon and Amalek, and goeth and smiteth Israel, and they possess the city of palms;

Fue así como Eglón, rey de Moab, reunió a los amonitas y amalecitas, y luchó contra Israel y lo hirió de muerte, y tomó la ciudad de las palmeras.

14 a nd the sons of Israel serve Eglon king of Moab eighteen years.

Durante dieciocho años los israelitas sirvieron a Eglón, rey de los moabitas.

15 A nd the sons of Israel cry unto Jehovah, and Jehovah raiseth to them a saviour, Ehud son of Gera, a Benjamite (a man -- shut of his right hand), and the sons of Israel send by his hand a present to Eglon king of Moab;

Pero los israelitas volvieron a pedir ayuda al Señor, y él volvió a levantar a otro libertador. Eligió a un benjaminita zurdo llamado Aod hijo de Gera. Un día, los israelitas enviaron un regalo a Eglón, rey de Moab, por medio de Aod.

16 a nd Ehud maketh for himself a sword, and it hath two mouths (a cubit its length), and he girdeth it under his long robe on his right thigh;

Éste se había hecho un puñal de doble filo, que medía como cincuenta centímetros de largo, y se lo ajustó del lado derecho, debajo de su ropa.

17 a nd he bringeth near the present to Eglon king of Moab, and Eglon a very fat man.

Cuando Aod llegó ante el rey, que era un hombre robusto, le entregó el regalo,

18 A nd it cometh to pass, when he hath finished to bring near the present, that he sendeth away the people bearing the present,

después de lo cual Aod y sus acompañantes se despidieron.

19 a nd he himself hath turned back from the graven images which at Gilgal, and saith, `A secret word I have unto thee, O king;' and he saith, `Hush!' and go out from him do all those standing by him.

Pero al llegar adonde estaban los ídolos de Gilgal, Aod regresó y le dijo: «Su Majestad, tengo algo que decirle en secreto.» El rey le pidió que esperara, y a todos los que estaban con él les ordenó salir.

20 A nd Ehud hath come unto him, and he is sitting in the upper chamber of the wall which he hath for himself, and Ehud saith, `A word of God I have unto thee;' and he riseth from off the throne;

Como el rey estaba sentado solo en su sala de verano, Aod se acercó y le dijo: «Tengo para ti un mensaje de parte de Dios.» Cuando el rey se levantó de su trono,

21 a nd Ehud putteth forth his left hand, and taketh the sword from off his right thigh, and striketh it into his belly;

con su mano izquierda Aod sacó el puñal que llevaba en su lado derecho, y se lo hundió en el vientre.

22 a nd the haft also goeth in after the blade, and the fat shutteth on the blade, that he hath not drawn the sword out of his belly, and it goeth out at the fundament.

Con tal fuerza se lo clavó, que la empuñadura entró junto con la hoja, y su gordura la cubrió, y Aod no pudo retirar el puñal porque al rey se le derramó el excremento.

23 A nd Ehud goeth out at the porch, and shutteth the doors of the upper chamber upon him, and hath bolted;

Entonces Aod salió al corredor, cerró las puertas de la sala tras de sí, y las aseguró con el cerrojo.

24 a nd he hath gone out, and his servants have come in, and look, and lo, the doors of the upper chamber are bolted, and they say, `He is only covering his feet in the inner chamber of the wall.'

Al salir Aod, los siervos del rey fueron a ver al rey, pero al ver que las puertas de la sala estaba cerradas, dijeron: «Seguramente el rey se está cubriendo los pies en la sala de verano.»

25 A nd they stay till confounded, and lo, he is not opening the doors of the upper chamber, and they take the key, and open, and lo, their lord is fallen to the earth -- dead.

Pero como pasaba el tiempo y el rey no abría, no sabían qué hacer; finalmente, tomaron la llave y abrieron, y se encontraron con que su amo estaba tirado en el suelo, ya muerto.

26 A nd Ehud escaped during their tarrying, and hath passed by the images, and is escaped to Seirath.

Como ellos se entretuvieron tanto tiempo, Aod logró escapar y, luego de pasar más allá de los ídolos, se puso a salvo en Seirat.

27 A nd it cometh to pass, in his coming in, that he bloweth with a trumpet in the hill-country of Ephraim, and go down with him do the sons of Israel from the hill-country, and he before them;

Al llegar allá, hizo sonar el cuerno en el monte de Efraín, y los israelitas descendieron con él del monte. Aod iba al frente de ellos,

28 a nd he saith unto them, `Pursue after me, for Jehovah hath given your enemies, the Moabites, into your hand;' and they go down after him, and capture the passages of the Jordan towards Moab, and have not permitted a man to pass over.

y les dijo: «Síganme, porque el Señor ha entregado a los moabitas en nuestras manos.» Y los israelitas bajaron tras él, tomaron los vados del Jordán, y no permitieron que nadie más lo cruzara.

29 A nd they smite Moab at that time, about ten thousand men, all robust, and every one a man of valour, and not a man hath escaped,

Ese día mataron como a diez mil moabitas, y aunque todos eran valientes hombres de guerra, ninguno de ellos escapó con vida.

30 a nd Moab is humbled in that day under the hand of Israel; and the land resteth eighty years.

Así fue subyugado Moab bajo el mando de Israel, y la tierra estuvo en paz durante ochenta años. Samgar libera a Israel de los filisteos

31 A nd after him hath been Shamgar son of Anath, and he smiteth the Philistines -- six hundred men -- with an ox-goad, and he saveth -- he also -- Israel.

Después de Aod, surgió Samgar hijo de Anat, quien mató a seiscientos filisteos con una aguijada de bueyes, y así salvó a Israel.
