1 ¶ The burden which Habakkuk the prophet saw.

Profecía y visión del profeta Habacuc.

2 O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear; and raise my voice unto thee because of the violence, and thou wilt not save?

¿Hasta cuándo, Señor, te llamaré y no me harás caso? ¿Hasta cuándo clamaré a ti por causa de la violencia, y no vendrás a salvarnos?

3 W hy dost thou cause me to see iniquity and cause me to behold grievance and destruction and violence before me, in addition to those that raise up strife and contention?

¿Por qué permites que vea yo iniquidad? ¿Por qué me haces espectador del mal? ¡Sólo veo destrucción y violencia! ¡Ante mis ojos surgen pleitos y contiendas!

4 T herefore the law is weakened, and the judgment does not go forth true: for the wicked compasses about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceeds.

Por eso tu ley carece de fuerza, y la justicia no se aplica con verdad. Por eso los impíos asedian a los justos, y se tuerce la justicia. Los caldeos, azote de Judá

5 ¶ Behold among the Gentiles and regard and wonder marvelously, for a work shall be done in your days which ye will not believe, though it be told you.

«Miren entre las naciones, y vean, y asómbrense. Yo voy a hacer en sus días algo, a lo que ustedes no darán crédito, aunque se les cuente.

6 F or, behold, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which march through the breadth of the earth to possess the dwellingplaces that are not theirs.

Estoy por hacer que vengan los caldeos, un pueblo cruel y tenaz que recorre toda la tierra para adueñarse de los territorios de otros pueblos.

7 S he is terrible and dreadful: from her herself shall go forth their rights and their grandeur.

Es un pueblo formidable y terrible, que por sí mismo decide lo que es justo y digno.

8 T heir horses shall be swifter than tigers and are sharper than the evening wolves, and their horsemen shall multiply themselves, and their horsemen shall come from far; they shall fly as eagles that hasten to eat.

Sus caballos son más ligeros que los leopardos y más feroces que los lobos nocturnos. Sus jinetes vienen de lejos, a galope tendido; vienen raudos como águilas, dispuestos a devorar,

9 A ll of her shall come for the prey, before their faces an east wind, and they shall gather the captives as the sand.

¡y todos ellos caen sobre su presa! El terror los precede, y recogen cautivos como quien recoge arena.

10 A nd he shall scoff at the kings, and the princes shall be a scorn unto him, he shall deride every fortress and shall heap dust and take it.

Se ríen de los reyes, se burlan de los príncipes; hacen mofa de toda fortaleza: construyen terraplenes y conquistan ciudades.

11 T hen he shall become arrogant against God, and he shall pass ahead and shall be found guilty, imputing this his power unto his god.

Pasan con la fuerza de una tormenta, y esa fuerza la atribuyen a su dios.» Protesta de Habacuc

12 ¶ Art thou not from the beginning, O LORD my God, my Holy One? we shall not die, O LORD, thou hast ordained him for judgment, and thou hast established him strong for chastisement.

Tú, Señor, eres un Dios santo. Tú existes desde el principio; ¡no nos dejes morir! Tú, Señor, eres nuestra Roca; ¡no hagas que este pueblo nos juzgue y nos castigue!

13 T hou art of purer eyes than to behold evil and canst not look on iniquity: why dost thou look upon those that deal treacherously and hold thy tongue when the wicked devour the man that is more righteous than he?

Si por la pureza de tus ojos no soportas ver el mal ni los agravios, ¿por qué soportas ver a quienes nos desprecian? ¿Por qué callas cuando los impíos destruyen a quienes son más justos que ellos?

14 A nd dost make men as the fishes of the sea, as reptiles that have no lord?

¡Tratas a la gente como a los peces del mar, como a los insectos, que no tienen quien los gobierne!

15 H e shall take up all of them with his hook; he shall catch them in his net and gather them in his drag: therefore, he shall rejoice and be glad.

Los caldeos nos pescan a todos con anzuelos y nos recogen con sus redes. ¡Con gran alegría y regocijo nos amontonan en sus mallas!

16 T herefore, he shall sacrifice unto his net and burn incense unto his drag because by them his portion is fat, and his food plenteous.

Luego ofrecen sacrificios a sus redes, y queman incienso a sus mallas, pues gracias a ellas aumentan sus riquezas y su fuente de alimentos.

17 S hall he therefore empty his net, or have pity to stop slaying Gentiles continually?

¡Pero ni así dejan de lanzar sus redes, ni se apiadan de las naciones, a las que siguen destruyendo sin cesar!
