1 ¶ Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father, and the younger men as brethren,

No reprendas al anciano, sino exhórtalo como a un padre; a los más jóvenes, como a hermanos;

2 t he elder women as mothers, the younger as sisters, with all purity.

a las ancianas, como a madres; a las jovencitas, con toda pureza, como a hermanas.

3 ¶ Honour widows that are widows indeed.

Honra a las viudas que en verdad son viudas.

4 B ut if any widow has children or grandchildren, let those learn first to govern their house in piety and to recompense their parents, for this is honest and pleasing before God.

Pero si alguna viuda tiene hijos, o nietos, éstos deben aprender primero a ser piadosos para con su propia familia, y a recompensar a sus padres; porque ante Dios esto es bueno y agradable.

5 N ow she that is a widow indeed and desolate, trusts in God, and is diligent in supplications and prayers night and day,

La viuda que en verdad es viuda, y que se ha quedado sola, espera en Dios y noche y día persevera en súplicas y oraciones;

6 b ut she that lives in pleasure is dead while she lives.

pero la que se entrega a los placeres, está muerta en vida.

7 T herefore command these things, that they may be blameless.

Manda también estas cosas, para que sean irreprensibles;

8 B ut if any provide not for his own and specially for those of his own house, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

porque si alguno no provee para los suyos, y especialmente para los de su casa, niega la fe y es peor que un incrédulo.

9 L et a widow be placed on the list being not less than sixty years old, having been the wife of one man,

En la lista deben figurar sólo las viudas mayores de sesenta años, y que hayan tenido un solo marido;

10 h aving a good testimony of good works, if she has brought up well her children, if she has exercised hospitality, if she has washed the feet of the saints, if she has relieved the afflicted, if she has diligently followed every good work.

que cuente con un testimonio de buenas obras, como haber criado hijos, practicado la hospitalidad, lavado los pies de los santos, socorrido a los afligidos, y practicado toda buena obra.

11 B ut the younger widows refuse, for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they desire to marry,

Pero no admitas viudas más jóvenes, porque luego se rebelan contra Cristo y, llevadas por sus deseos, quieren casarse,

12 h aving condemnation, because they have cast off their first faith.

con lo que incurren en condenación por quebrantar su primera fe.

13 A nd reject also the idle, who have learned to wander about from house to house, and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.

Además, aprenden a ser ociosas y a andar de casa en casa; y no solamente se vuelven ociosas sino también chismosas y entrometidas, y hablan de lo que no deben.

14 I desire therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, govern the house, giving no occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

Por eso quiero que las viudas jóvenes se casen y críen hijos; que gobiernen su casa y no den al adversario ninguna ocasión de maledicencia.

15 F or some are already turned back after Satan.

Porque ya algunas se han apartado por seguir a Satanás.

16 I f any faithful man or woman has widows, let them maintain them and let not the congregation be charged, that it may relieve those that are widows indeed.

Si algún creyente o alguna creyente tiene viudas, que las mantenga, para no gravar a la iglesia; así habrá lo suficiente para las viudas que en verdad lo son.

17 ¶ Let the elders that govern well be counted worthy of double honour, especially those who labour in the word and doctrine.

Los ancianos que gobiernan bien deben considerarse dignos de doble honor, mayormente los que se dedican a predicar y enseñar.

18 F or the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treads out the grain. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.

Pues la Escritura dice: «No pondrás bozal al buey que trilla», y: «Digno es el obrero de su salario.»

19 A gainst an elder do not receive an accusation, unless there are two or three witnesses.

No admitas ninguna acusación contra un anciano, a menos que haya dos o tres testigos.

20 T hose that persist in sin rebuke before all, that the others may also fear.

A los que persisten en pecar, repréndelos delante de todos, para que los demás también teman.

21 I charge thee before God and the Lord Jesus Christ and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

Te encarezco delante de Dios y del Señor Jesucristo, y de sus ángeles escogidos, que guardes estas cosas sin prejuicios y sin actuar con parcialidad.

22 L ay hands suddenly on no one, neither be partaker of the sins of others; keep thyself pure.

No impongas a nadie las manos con ligereza, ni participes en pecados ajenos. Consérvate puro.

23 D rink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.

Por causa de tu estómago y de tus frecuentes enfermedades ya no bebas agua, sino toma un poco de vino.

24 S ome men’s sins are manifest beforehand, before they come unto judgment, but to others they follow after.

Los pecados de algunos hombres se hacen evidentes antes de que ellos sean llevados a juicio, aunque a otros se les descubren después.

25 L ikewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand, and those that are otherwise cannot be hid.

De igual manera, las buenas obras se hacen evidentes; y aun las que son diferentes, tampoco pueden permanecer ocultas.
