1 ¶ Then came the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh, the son of Joseph; and these are the names of his daughters; Mahlah, Noah and Hoglah and Milcah and Tirzah.

Selofejad hijo de Jéfer, hijo de Galaad, hijo de Maquir, hijo de Manasés, de las familias de Manasés hijo de José, tenía cinco hijas llamadas Malá, Nogá, Joglá, Milca y Tirsa. Éstas fueron

2 A nd they stood before Moses and before Eleazar, the priest, and before the princes and all the congregation, by the door of the tabernacle of the testimony, saying,

a la puerta del tabernáculo de reunión y se presentaron ante Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar, y ante los príncipes y toda la congregación, para decirles:

3 O ur father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the company of those that gathered themselves together against the LORD in the company of Korah, but died in his own sin, and had no sons.

«Nuestro padre murió en el desierto, pero no por haber estado en el grupo de Coré, entre los que se juntaron contra el Señor, sino que murió por su propio pecado y sin haber tenido hijos varones.

4 W hy should the name of our father be done away from among his family because he has no son? Give unto us therefore a possession among the brethren of our father.

¿Acaso por no haber tenido hijos nuestro padre se quitará su nombre de entre su familia? ¡Danos una propiedad familiar entre sus hermanos!»

5 A nd Moses brought their cause before the LORD.

Moisés le presentó el caso al Señor,

6 A nd the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,

y el Señor le respondió:

7 T he daughters of Zelophehad speak right; thou shalt surely give them a possession of an inheritance among their father’s brethren, and thou shalt cause the inheritance of their father to pass unto them.

«Las hijas de Selofejad tienen razón. Dales posesión de una propiedad familiar entre los hermanos de su padre. Traspasa a ellas los derechos de propiedad de su padre.

8 A nd thou shalt speak unto the sons of Israel, saying, If a man dies and has no son, then ye shall cause his inheritance to pass unto his daughter.

Además, diles a los hijos de Israel que, cuando alguno de ellos muera sin tener hijos, sus derechos de propiedad se traspasarán a su hija.

9 A nd if he has no daughter, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his brethren.

Si tampoco tuvo hija, sus derechos de propiedad pasarán a sus hermanos.

10 A nd if he has no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his father’s brethren.

Si tampoco tuvo hermanos, sus derechos de propiedad pasarán a los hermanos de su padre.

11 A nd if his father has no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his kinsman that is next to him of his lineage, and he shall inherit it; and it shall be unto the sons of Israel a law of rights, as the LORD commanded Moses.

Y si su padre tampoco tuvo hermanos, sus derechos pasarán a su pariente tribal más cercano, y éste será el dueño. Esto será un estatuto legal para los hijos de Israel, tal y como yo, el Señor, te lo he ordenado.» Josué, sucesor de Moisés

12 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses, Climb up this Mount Abarim, and thou shalt see the land which I have given unto the sons of Israel.

El Señor le dijo a Moisés: «Sube a este monte Abarín. Desde allí verás la tierra que voy a darles a los hijos de Israel.

13 A nd after thou hast seen it, thou also shalt be gathered unto thy peoples, as Aaron thy brother was gathered.

Después de que la hayas visto, también tú irás a reunirte con tu pueblo, como tu hermano Aarón,

14 F or ye were rebels to my word in the desert of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me in the waters before their eyes. These are the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.

porque allá en Meriba, en el desierto de Zin, cuando la congregación me hizo reclamos, ustedes se rebelaron contra mi mandato y delante de ellos no me santificaron.» Estas aguas de Meriba están en Cades, en el desierto de Zin.

15 ¶ Then Moses spoke unto the LORD, saying,

Moisés le respondió al Señor:

16 L et the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation,

«Señor y Dios del espíritu que habita en todo ser, pon a cargo de la congregación alguien

17 w ho may go out before them, and who may go in before them, and who may lead them out and who may bring them in that the congregation of the LORD not be as sheep without a shepherd.

que salga al frente de ellos y que los haga volver. Que no sea tu congregación, Señor, como un rebaño de ovejas sin pastor.»

18 A nd the LORD said unto Moses, Take Joshua, the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay thine hand upon him

Y el Señor le dijo: «Pues toma a Josué hijo de Nun, que es un hombre con espíritu. Pon tu mano sobre él,

19 a nd set him before Eleazar, the priest, and before all the congregation and give him a charge in their presence.

y llévalo ante el sacerdote Eleazar y ante toda la congregación, y en presencia de ellos entrégale el mando.

20 A nd thou shalt put some of thy splendour upon him that all the congregation of the sons of Israel may hear him.

Pon sobre él tus propias atribuciones, para que toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel le obedezca.

21 A nd he shall stand before Eleazar, the priest, whom he shall consult in the judgment of the Urim before the LORD; at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the sons of Israel with him, even all the congregation.

Él se presentará ante el sacerdote Eleazar para consultarme por medio del Urim. Cuando Josué lo ordene, todos los hijos de Israel saldrán, y cuando él lo ordene, todos los hijos de Israel volverán.»

22 A nd Moses did as the LORD commanded him, and he took Joshua and set him before Eleazar, the priest, and before all the congregation,

Moisés hizo lo que el Señor le ordenó, y tomó a Josué y lo llevó ante el sacerdote Eleazar y ante toda la congregación,

23 a nd he laid his hands upon him and gave him a charge, as the LORD had commanded by the hand of Moses.

y poniendo sobre él las manos le entregó el mando, tal y como el Señor lo había ordenado por medio de Moisés.
