1 ¶ And it came to pass that as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray as John also taught his disciples.

En cierta ocasión, Jesús estaba orando en un lugar y, cuando terminó, uno de sus discípulos le dijo: «Señor, enséñanos a orar, así como Juan enseñó a sus discípulos.»

2 A nd he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father who art in the heavens, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so also in the earth.

Jesús les dijo: «Cuando ustedes oren, digan: “Padre, santificado sea tu nombre. Venga tu reino.

3 G ive us day by day our daily bread.

El pan nuestro de cada día, dánoslo hoy.

4 A nd forgive us our sins, for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Perdónanos nuestros pecados, porque también nosotros perdonamos a todos los que nos deben. Y no nos metas en tentación.”»

5 A nd he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend and shall go unto him at midnight and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;

También les dijo: «¿Quién de ustedes, que tenga un amigo, va a verlo a medianoche y le dice: “Amigo, préstame tres panes,

6 f or a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?

porque un amigo mío ha venido a visitarme, y no tengo nada que ofrecerle”?

7 A nd he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.

Aquél responderá desde adentro y le dirá: “No me molestes. La puerta ya está cerrada, y mis niños están en la cama conmigo. No puedo levantarme para dártelos”

8 I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity, he will rise and give him as many as he needs.

Yo les digo que, aunque no se levante a dárselos por ser su amigo, sí se levantará por su insistencia, y le dará todo lo que necesite.

9 A nd I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

Así que pidan, y se les dará. Busquen, y encontrarán. Llamen, y se les abrirá.

10 F or every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened.

Porque todo aquel que pide, recibe; y el que busca, encuentra; y al que llama, se le abre.

11 I f a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?

¿Quién de ustedes, si su hijo le pide pan, le da una piedra? ¿O si le pide un pescado, en lugar del pescado le da una serpiente?

12 O r if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?

¿O si le pide un huevo, le da un escorpión?

13 I f ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those that ask him?

Pues si ustedes, que son malos, saben dar cosas buenas a sus hijos, ¡cuánto más el Padre celestial dará el Espíritu Santo a quienes se lo pidan!» Una casa dividida contra sí misma

14 ¶ And he was casting out a demon, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the demon was gone out, the one who had been dumb spoke; and the people marvelled.

Jesús estaba expulsando un demonio que había dejado mudo a un hombre, y cuando el demonio salió, el mudo comenzó a hablar y la gente quedó asombrada.

15 B ut some of them said, He casts out devils through Beelzebub the prince of the demons.

Pero algunos dijeron: «Éste expulsa a los demonios por el poder de Beelzebú, príncipe de los demonios.»

16 A nd others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven.

Otros, para ponerlo a prueba, le pedían alguna señal del cielo.

17 B ut he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every house or city divided against itself will not remain.

Pero él, que sabía lo que ellos pensaban, les dijo: «Todo reino dividido contra sí mismo queda devastado. No hay casa que permanezca, si internamente está dividida.

18 I f Satan also is divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out demons through Beelzebub.

Ya que ustedes dicen que yo expulso a los demonios por el poder de Beelzebú, ¿cómo podrá permanecer el reino de Satanás, si él está dividido contra sí mismo?

19 A nd if I by Beelzebub cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges.

Porque, si yo expulso a los demonios por el poder de Beelzebú, ¿por el poder de quién los expulsan los hijos de ustedes? Por tanto, ellos mismos serán los jueces de ustedes.

20 B ut if I with the finger of God cast out the demons, certainly the kingdom of God is come upon you.

Pero si yo expulso a los demonios por el poder de Dios, ciertamente el reino de Dios ha llegado a ustedes.

21 W hen an armed strong man keeps his palace, his goods are in peace;

Cuando un hombre fuerte está bien armado y protege su palacio, lo que posee no corre peligro.

22 b ut when another stronger than he shall come upon him and overcome him, he takes from him all his arms in which he trusted and divides his spoils.

Pero cuando otro más fuerte que él viene y lo derrota, le quita todas las armas en las que confiaba, y reparte el botín.

23 H e that is not with me is against me, and he that does not gather with me scatters.

El que no está conmigo, está contra mí; y el que conmigo no recoge, desparrama. El espíritu impuro que vuelve

24 W hen the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walks through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, I will return unto my house from which I came out.

»Cuando el espíritu impuro sale del hombre, anda por lugares áridos en busca de reposo, pero al no encontrarlo dice: “Volveré a mi casa, de donde salí.”

25 A nd when he comes, he finds it swept and garnished.

Y cuando llega y la encuentra barrida y adornada,

26 T hen he goes, and takes unto him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in and dwell there, and the last state of that man is worse than the first.

va y trae otros siete espíritus peores que él, y todos entran y allí se quedan a vivir. ¡Y el estado final de aquel hombre resulta peor que el primero!» Los que en verdad son dichosos

27 ¶ And it came to pass as he spoke these things, a certain woman of the crowd lifted up her voice and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee and the breasts which thou hast sucked.

Mientras Jesús decía esto, una mujer de entre la multitud levantó la voz y le dijo: «¡Dichoso el vientre que te dio a luz, y los senos que te amamantaron!»

28 B ut he said, Rather, blessed are those that hear the word of God and keep it.

Jesús respondió: «Más bien, dichosos los que escuchan la palabra de Dios, y la obedecen.» La gente perversa demanda señal

29 ¶ And gathering the people unto him, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign, and no sign shall be given it but the sign of Jonah the prophet.

Como la multitud que lo rodeaba iba en aumento, Jesús comenzó a decir: «¡Qué malvada es esta generación! Demanda una señal, pero no tendrán más señal que la del profeta Jonás.

30 F or as Jonah was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.

Porque así como Jonás fue una señal para los ninivitas, también el Hijo del Hombre será una señal para esta generación.

31 T he queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment against the men of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

En el día del juicio, la reina del Sur se levantará con la gente de esta generación, y la condenará; porque ella vino desde los confines de la tierra para escuchar la sabiduría de Salomón, y aquí hay alguien que es más grande que Salomón.

32 T he men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and, behold, a greater than Jonah is here.

En el día del juicio, los habitantes de Nínive se levantarán con esta generación, y la condenarán; porque al oír la predicación de Jonás se arrepintieron, y aquí hay alguien que es más grande que Jonás. La lámpara del cuerpo

33 N o one, when he has lighted a lamp, puts it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a lampstand that those who come in may see the light.

»Nadie esconde la luz que se enciende, ni la pone debajo de un cajón, sino en el candelero, para que los que entran vean la luz.

34 T he lamp of the body is the eye; therefore when thine eye is sincere, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.

La lámpara del cuerpo es el ojo. Cuando tu ojo es bueno, también todo tu cuerpo esta lleno de luz; pero cuando tu ojo es malo, también tu cuerpo estará a oscuras.

35 T ake heed therefore if the light which is in thee is darkness.

Ten cuidado, no sea que la luz que hay en ti resulte ser oscuridad.

36 I f thy whole body therefore is full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light as when the bright shining of a lamp doth give thee light.

Así que, si todo tu cuerpo está lleno de luz, y no participa de la oscuridad, será todo luminoso, como cuando una lámpara te alumbra con su resplandor.» Jesús acusa a fariseos y a intérpretes de la ley

37 ¶ And as he spoke, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him, and he went in and sat down to food.

Después de que Jesús terminó de hablar, un fariseo lo invitó a que comiera con él. Jesús entró en la casa y se sentó a la mesa.

38 A nd when the Pharisee saw it, he marvelled that he had not first washed before dinner.

Al fariseo le extrañó ver que Jesús no se hubiera lavado antes de comer,

39 A nd the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.

pero el Señor le dijo: «Ustedes los fariseos limpian por fuera el vaso y el plato, pero por dentro están llenos de robo y de maldad.

40 Y e fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also?

¡Necios! ¿Acaso el que hizo lo de afuera, no hizo también lo de adentro?

41 B ut rather give alms of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you.

Den limosna de lo que está adentro, y así todo quedará limpio para ustedes.

42 B ut woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs and pass over the judgment and the charity of God; these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

»¡Ay de ustedes, fariseos!, que dan el diezmo de la menta y de la ruda, y de toda clase de hortalizas, pero pasan por alto la justicia y el amor de Dios. Esto es necesario que lo hagan, sin dejar de hacer aquello.

43 W oe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the first seats in the synagogues and greetings in the markets.

¡Ay de ustedes, fariseos!, que aman los primeros lugares en las sinagogas, y los saludos en las plazas.

44 W oe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which are not seen, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them.

¡Ay de ustedes, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Son ustedes como sepulcros que no se ven, y los que pasan por encima no lo saben.»

45 T hen one of the lawyers answered and said unto him, Master, saying these things, thou dost reproach us also.

Uno de los intérpretes de la ley, le dijo: «Maestro, cuando dices esto, nos insultas también a nosotros.»

46 A nd he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye burden men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.

Y Jesús dijo: «¡Ay de ustedes también, intérpretes de la ley! Porque imponen a los otros cargas muy difíciles de llevar, pero ustedes ni siquiera con un dedo las tocan.

47 W oe unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.

¡Ay de ustedes, los que erigen los sepulcros de los profetas que mataron los antepasados de ustedes!

48 T ruly ye bear witness that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchres.

Con ello, no sólo son ustedes testigos sino cómplices de lo que hicieron sus antepasados, pues ellos los mataron y ustedes les erigen sus sepulcros.

49 T herefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and others they shall persecute:

Por eso, Dios en su sabiduría dijo: “Les enviaré profetas y apóstoles. De ellos, a unos matarán y a otros perseguirán.”

50 t hat the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation,

Por lo tanto, a la gente de esta generación se le demandará la sangre de todos los profetas, que desde la fundación del mundo ha sido derramada,

51 f rom the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, who perished between the altar and the temple; verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.

desde la sangre de Abel hasta la sangre de Zacarías, que murió entre el altar y el templo. Sí, les aseguro que será demandada de esta generación.

52 W oe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and those that were entering in, ye hindered.

¡Ay de ustedes, intérpretes de la ley! Porque se han apoderado de la llave del conocimiento, ¡y ni ustedes entraron, y a los que sí querían entrar se lo impidieron!»

53 A nd as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently and to provoke him to speak of many things,

Como Jesús les decía todo esto, los escribas y los fariseos comenzaron a hostigarlo en gran manera, y a provocarlo para que hablara de muchas cosas,

54 l aying wait for him and seeking to catch something out of his mouth that they might accuse him.

y le tendían trampas para atraparlo en sus propias palabras.
