1 ¶ And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river.

Dos años después, sucedió que el faraón tuvo un sueño, en el que se veía de pie, junto al río.

2 A nd, behold, there came up out of the river seven beautiful cows and very fat, and they fed in a meadow.

Del río salían siete vacas, muy hermosas y gordas, que se alimentaban de los pastos.

3 A nd, behold, seven other cows came up after them out of the river, ugly and lean-fleshed, and stood by the other cows upon the brink of the river.

Tras ellas salían del río otras siete vacas, muy flacas y feas, que se pararon a la orilla del río, cerca de las vacas hermosas,

4 A nd the ugly and lean-fleshed cows ate up the seven beautiful and fat cows. So Pharaoh awoke.

¡y las vacas flacas y feas se comían a las siete vacas hermosas y gordas! Y el faraón se despertó.

5 A nd he slept and dreamed the second time; and, behold, seven heads of wheat came up upon one stalk, full and beautiful.

Pero volvió a dormirse, y la segunda vez soñó que de una sola caña crecían siete espigas, muy hermosas y llenas de trigo,

6 A nd, behold, seven thin heads, blasted with the east wind sprung up after them.

y que tras ellas salían otras siete espigas, delgadas y marchitadas por el viento solano;

7 A nd the seven thin heads devoured the seven full and beautiful heads. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.

¡y las siete espigas delgadas se comían a las siete espigas hermosas y llenas de trigo! Y el faraón se despertó, y vio que sólo era un sueño.

8 A nd it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled, and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt and all the wise men thereof; and Pharaoh told them his dreams, but there was no one that could interpret them unto Pharaoh.

Por la mañana el faraón estaba muy agitado, y mandó llamar a todos los magos de Egipto y a todos sus sabios; y el faraón les contó sus sueños, pero no había quien se los pudiera interpretar.

9 ¶ Then the chief butler spoke unto Pharaoh, saying, I remember my sins today;

Entonces el jefe de los coperos habló con el Faraón y le dijo: «Ahora me acuerdo de que he fallado.

10 P haraoh was angry with his slaves and put me in the prison of the captain of the guard’s house, both me and the prince of the bakers.

Cuando Su Majestad se enojó contra el jefe de los panaderos y contra mí, sus siervos, nos mandó a la prisión en la casa del capitán de la guardia.

11 A nd we both dreamed a dream in one night; we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.

Y en una misma noche él y yo tuvimos un sueño, y cada sueño tenía su propio significado.

12 A nd there was there with us a young man, a Hebrew, slave to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted our dreams to us; he interpreted to each man according to his dream.

Allí, con nosotros, estaba un joven hebreo, siervo del capitán de la guardia; y cuando le contamos nuestros sueños, él nos interpretó lo que cada uno había soñado.

13 A nd it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was; me he restored unto my office, and him he hanged.

Y resultó que todo sucedió tal y como él nos los interpretó: yo fui restituido a mi puesto, y el otro fue enviado a la horca.»

14 T hen Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon; and they cut his hair and changed his clothes, and he came in unto Pharaoh.

El faraón mandó entonces llamar a José. Con mucha prisa lo sacaron de la cárcel, y él se afeitó y se cambió de ropa, y se presentó ante el faraón.

15 A nd Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is no one that can interpret it; but I have heard say of thee that thou canst hear dreams to interpret them.

El faraón le dijo: «He tenido un sueño, y no hay quien lo interprete. Pero he oído decir que tú oyes un sueño y lo puedes interpretar.»

16 A nd Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me; God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.

José le respondió al faraón: «No depende de mí. Pero Dios dará al faraón una respuesta propicia.»

17 ¶ And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood upon the bank of the river;

Entonces el faraón le dijo: «En mi sueño, yo me veía de pie, a la orilla del río.

18 a nd, behold, there came up out of the river seven cows, fat-fleshed and beautiful in appearance; and they fed in a meadow.

Del río salieron siete vacas muy gordas y hermosas, que se alimentaban de los pastos.

19 A nd, behold, seven other cows came up after them, lean and very ugly in appearance, and thin, such as I have never seen in all the land of Egypt for ugliness.

Detrás de ellas salieron otras siete vacas, muy flacas y feas. ¡Estaban tan flacas, que no he visto otras tan feas en toda la tierra de Egipto!

20 A nd the lean and ugly cows ate up the first seven fat cows;

Y las vacas flacas y feas se comían a las primeras siete vacas gordas,

21 a nd when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; but they were still ugly, as at the beginning. So I awoke.

y éstas entraban en su panza, y nadie podía saber que las tuvieran adentro, porque se veían igual de flacas, como al principio. Entonces desperté.

22 A nd I also saw in my dream, and, behold, seven heads came up in one stalk, full and beautiful;

En mis sueños también vi que siete espigas, llenas de trigo y hermosas, crecían de un mismo tallo.

23 a nd, behold, seven heads, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them.

Tras ellas crecían otras siete espigas, delgadas y marchitadas por el viento solano,

24 A nd the thin heads devoured the seven good heads; and I told this unto the magicians, but there was no one that could declare it to me.

¡y las espigas delgadas se comían a las siete espigas hermosas! Les he dicho esto a los magos, pero no hay quien me lo interprete.»

25 T hen Joseph said unto Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one: God has showed Pharaoh what he is about to do.

José le respondió al faraón: «El sueño de mi señor el faraón es uno solo. Dios le ha hecho saber lo que él está por hacer.

26 T he seven beautiful cows are seven years; and the seven good heads are seven years; the dream is one and the same.

Las siete vacas hermosas son siete años, y las espigas hermosas también son siete años. El sueño es uno solo.

27 A lso the seven thin and ugly cows that came up after them are seven years; and the seven empty heads blasted with the east wind shall be seven years of famine.

También las siete vacas flacas y feas que subían tras ellas son siete años, y las siete espigas delgadas y marchitadas por el viento solano serán siete años de hambre.

28 T his is the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh. What God is about to do he has shown unto Pharaoh.

Ésta es mi respuesta a Su Majestad: Dios ha mostrado a Su Majestad lo que él está por hacer.

29 B ehold, seven years of great plenty are coming throughout all the land of Egypt.

Vienen ya siete años de gran abundancia en toda la tierra de Egipto.

30 A nd there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land;

Pero a estos les seguirán siete años de hambre. Toda la abundancia será olvidada en la tierra de Egipto, porque el hambre acabará con la tierra.

31 a nd the plenty shall not be known in the land by reason of that famine following; for it shall be very grievous.

Por causa del hambre que vendrá, y que será gravísima, esa abundancia quedará ignorada.

32 A nd that the dream came unto Pharaoh twice, it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.

El hecho de que Su Majestad haya tenido el mismo sueño dos veces, significa que Dios ha decidido hacer esto, y que muy pronto lo hará.

33 ¶ Now therefore let Pharaoh find a discreet and wise man and set him over the land of Egypt.

Su Majestad debe buscarse ya un hombre inteligente y sabio, y ponerlo al frente de la tierra de Egipto.

34 L et Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years.

Debe también poner gobernadores al frente del país, y tomar la quinta parte de lo que produzca la tierra de Egipto durante los siete años de abundancia.

35 A nd let them gather all the food of those good years that come and lay up wheat under the hand of Pharaoh to feed the cities, and let them store it up.

Se deben almacenar todos los alimentos de estos buenos años que vienen, y bajo el control de Su Majestad recogerse y guardarse el trigo, para el sustento de las ciudades.

36 A nd let that food be stored for the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; and the land shall not perish through the famine.

Estas provisiones deben quedar almacenadas para el país, para los siete años de hambre que habrá en la tierra de Egipto. Así el país no perecerá de hambre.» José, gobernador de Egipto

37 A nd the word was good in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of all his slaves.

Esto le pareció bien al faraón y a sus siervos,

38 A nd Pharaoh said unto his slaves, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?

y el faraón les dijo a sus siervos: «¿Podremos encontrar a otro hombre como éste, en quien esté el espíritu de Dios?»

39 A nd Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God has showed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art.

A José le dijo: «Puesto que Dios te ha hecho saber todo esto, no hay nadie tan inteligente y sabio como tú.

40 T hou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled; only in the throne will I be greater than thou.

Así que tú estarás al frente de mi casa, y todo mi pueblo se someterá a lo que digas; solamente en el trono seré mayor que tú.»

41 A nd Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.

También le dijo el faraón a José: «Como ves, yo te he puesto al frente de toda la tierra de Egipto.»

42 T hen Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand and put it upon Joseph’s hand and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen and put a gold chain about his neck;

Y el faraón se quitó su anillo de la mano, y lo puso en la mano de José; también hizo que lo vistieran con ropas de lino muy fino, y en el cuello le puso un collar de oro;

43 a nd he made him to ride in his second chariot; and they cried before him, Abrech Tender Father-honour this one as a precious father; and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.

después hizo que subiera en su segundo carro, y que delante de él se gritara: «¡De rodillas!»; y lo puso al frente de toda la tierra de Egipto.

44 A nd Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee no one shall lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.

Luego el faraón le dijo a José: «Yo soy el faraón. Pero sin ti nadie alzará la mano ni el pie en toda la tierra de Egipto.»

45 A nd Pharaoh called Joseph’s name Zaphnathpaaneah, and he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.

Y el faraón le dio a José el nombre de Safenat Paneaj, y le dio por mujer a Asenat, la hija de Potifera, el sacerdote de On. Entonces José salió para recorrer toda la tierra de Egipto.

46 ¶ And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh and went throughout all the land of Egypt.

José tenía treinta años de edad cuando fue presentado ante el faraón, rey de Egipto. Y salió José de la presencia del faraón, y recorrió toda la tierra de Egipto.

47 A nd in the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth by handfuls.

En aquellos siete años de abundancia la tierra produjo en grandes cantidades.

48 A nd he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt and laid up the food in the cities, placing in each city the food of the field, which was round about.

Y José recogió todo el alimento de los siete años de abundancia que hubo en la tierra de Egipto, y almacenó alimento en las ciudades, y entregó a cada ciudad el alimento del campo de sus alrededores.

49 A nd Joseph gathered wheat as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left off numbering; for it was without number.

José recogió trigo en grandes cantidades, como si fuera arena del mar, al grado de no poder contarlo, porque era incontable.

50 A nd unto Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, which Asenath, the daughter of Potipherah, prince of On, bore unto him.

Antes de que llegara el primer año de hambre, le nacieron a José dos hijos, los cuales le dio Asenat, la hija de Potifera, el sacerdote de On.

51 A nd Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh; For God, said he, has made me forget all my toil and all my father’s house.

Al primogénito le puso por nombre Manasés, porque dijo: «Dios me ha hecho olvidar todos mis sufrimientos, y toda la casa de mi padre.»

52 A nd the name of the second he called Ephraim, For God, said he, has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.

Al segundo le puso por nombre Efraín; porque dijo: «Dios me hizo fructificar en la tierra de mi aflicción.»

53 A nd the seven years of the abundance that was in the land of Egypt were ended.

Los siete años de abundancia que hubo en la tierra de Egipto llegaron a su fin,

54 A nd the seven years of famine began to come, according as Joseph had said; and the famine was in all lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.

y comenzaron a llegar los siete años de hambre, como José lo había dicho. Y hubo hambre en todos los países, pero en toda la tierra de Egipto había pan.

55 A nd when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread. And Pharaoh said unto all the Egyptians, Go unto Joseph; what he saith to you, do.

Cuando arreció el hambre en toda la tierra de Egipto, el pueblo pedía a gritos al faraón que le diera pan. Y el faraón les dijo a todos los egipcios: «Vayan a ver a José, y hagan lo que él les diga.»

56 A nd the famine was over all the face of the earth. Then Joseph opened all the storehouses and sold unto the Egyptians; for the famine waxed sore in the land of Egypt.

El hambre cundía por todo el país. Entonces José abrió todos los graneros donde había trigo, y se lo vendía a los egipcios, porque el hambre arreciaba en la tierra de Egipto.

57 A nd all the earth came into Egypt to buy from Joseph because the famine was so sore in all lands.

Y de todas partes venían a Egipto para comprar trigo de José, porque el hambre había arreciado por toda la tierra.
