1 ¶ My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.

Hijo mío, obedece mis palabras, y guarda como un tesoro mis mandamientos.

2 K eep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.

Obedece mis mandamientos y enseñanzas; cuídalos como las niñas de tus ojos, y vivirás.

3 B ind them upon thy fingers; write them upon the tablet of thine heart.

Átalos alrededor de tus dedos; anótalos en la pizarra de tu corazón.

4 S ay unto wisdom, Thou art my sister, and call understanding thy kinswoman:

Dile a la sabiduría: «¡Hermana mía!» Declárate pariente de la inteligencia.

5 T hat they may keep thee from the woman belonging to someone else, from the stranger who flatters with her words.

Ellas te protegerán de la mujer ajena, de esa extraña de melosas palabras.

6 ¶ For at the window of my house I looked through my casement

Un día estaba yo en la ventana de mi casa, y miraba a través de la celosía.

7 a nd beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,

Observaba yo a los jóvenes incautos, y me llamó la atención uno de ellos, claramente falto de entendimiento,

8 p assing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,

que cruzó la calle, dobló la esquina, y se dirigió a la casa de esa mujer.

9 i n the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night;

Era tarde, y comenzaba a oscurecer; las sombras de la noche comenzaban a caer.

10 a nd, behold, a woman met him with the attire of a harlot, and subtil of heart.

De pronto, esa mujer salió a su encuentro, vestida como ramera y con claras intenciones:

11 ( She is loud and stubborn; her feet do not abide in her house:

Era provocativa y desafiante, de esas que no pueden poner un pie en su casa.

12 N ow without, now in the streets, she lies in wait at every corner.)

Unas veces en la calle, otras veces en las plazas, y en constante acecho en las esquinas.

13 S o she caught him and kissed him and with an impudent face said unto him,

Se prendió de él, le dio un beso, y descaradamente le propuso:

14 I had promised sacrifices of peace; today I have payed my vows.

«Yo había prometido sacrificios de paz, y hoy he cumplido con mis votos.

15 T herefore I came forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.

¡Por eso he salido a tu encuentro! ¡Ansiaba verte, y he dado contigo!

16 I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.

Mi lecho lo he cubierto con finas colchas, colchas recamadas con hilo egipcio.

17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

Mi alcoba la he perfumado Con mirra, áloes y canela.

18 C ome, let us take our fill of love until the morning; let us solace ourselves with loves.

¡Ven, embriaguémonos de amores! ¡Gocemos del amor hasta el amanecer!

19 F or the husband is not at home; he is gone a long journey:

Mi marido no está en casa, pues salió para hacer un largo viaje.

20 H e has taken a bag of money with him and will come home at the appointed feast day.

Se llevó la bolsa de dinero, y no volverá hasta el día señalado.»

21 W ith her much fair speech she caused him to yield; with the flattering of her lips she persuaded him.

La mujer lo venció con sus muchas lisonjas; lo persuadió con sus labios zalameros,

22 H e went after her straightway, as an ox goes to the slaughter or as a fool to the correction of the stocks,

y el joven se fue enseguida tras ella, como el buey que va al degolladero; como el necio que preso avanza al castigo,

23 u ntil the arrow pierces through his liver. He is as a bird struggling in the snare and not knowing that it is against his own life.

hasta que una flecha le parte el corazón; como el ave que vuela presurosa hacia la red, sin saber que eso le costará la vida.

24 ¶ Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye sons, and attend to the words of my mouth.

Hijos, por favor, ¡escúchenme! ¡Presten atención a mis declaraciones!

25 L et not thine heart decline to her ways; do not go astray in her paths.

No inclines tu corazón hacia sus caminos; no pierdas el rumbo por sus atajos.

26 F or she has caused many to fall down dead; yea, all the strong men have been slain by her.

Por su culpa, muchos han caído heridos; aun los más fuertes han muerto por causa de ella.

27 H er house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death.

Su casa va camino al sepulcro, y desciende a las mansiones de la muerte.
