1 ¶ Take heed not to do your alms before men, to be seen of them; otherwise, ye have no reward of your Father who is in the heavens.

»Cuidado con hacer sus obras de justicia sólo para que la gente los vea. Si lo hacen así, su Padre que está en los cielos no les dará ninguna recompensa.

2 T herefore, when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They already have their reward.

Cuando tú des limosna, no toques trompeta delante de ti, como hacen los hipócritas en las sinagogas y en las calles, para que la gente los alabe. De cierto les digo que con eso ya se han ganado su recompensa.

3 B ut when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth

Pero cuando tú des limosna, asegúrate de que tu mano izquierda no sepa lo que hace la derecha;

4 t hat thine alms may be in secret; and thy Father who sees in secret, he shall reward thee openly.

así tu limosna será en secreto, y tu Padre que ve en lo secreto te recompensará en público. Jesús y la oración

5 ¶ And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They already have their reward.

»Cuando ores, no seas como los hipócritas, porque a ellos les encanta orar en pie en las sinagogas y en las esquinas de las calles, para que la gente los vea; de cierto les digo que con eso ya se han ganado su recompensa.

6 B ut thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy chamber, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret; and thy Father who sees in secret shall reward thee openly.

Pero tú, cuando ores, entra en tu aposento, y con la puerta cerrada ora a tu Padre que está en secreto, y tu Padre que ve en lo secreto te recompensará en público.

7 B ut when ye pray, use not vain repetitions as the worldly do, for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

»Cuando ustedes oren, no sean repetitivos, como los paganos, que piensan que por hablar mucho serán escuchados.

8 B e not ye therefore like unto them, for your Father knows what things ye have need of before ye ask him.

No sean como ellos, porque su Padre ya sabe de lo que ustedes tienen necesidad, antes de que ustedes le pidan.

9 ¶ Ye, therefore, are to pray like this: Our Father who art in the heavens, Hallowed be thy name.

Por eso, ustedes deben orar así: “Padre nuestro, que estás en los cielos, santificado sea tu nombre.

10 T hy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Venga tu reino. Hágase tu voluntad, en la tierra como en el cielo.

11 G ive us this day our daily bread.

El pan nuestro de cada día, dánoslo hoy.

12 A nd set us free from our debts, as we set free our debtors.

Perdónanos nuestras deudas, como también nosotros perdonamos a nuestros deudores.

13 A nd lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

No nos metas en tentación, sino líbranos del mal.”

14 F or if ye set men free from their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also set you free;

Si ustedes perdonan a los otros sus ofensas, también su Padre celestial los perdonará a ustedes.

15 b ut if ye do not set men free from their trespasses, neither will your Father set you free from your trespasses.

Pero si ustedes no perdonan a los otros sus ofensas, tampoco el Padre de ustedes les perdonará sus ofensas. Jesús y el ayuno

16 ¶ Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance, for they disfigure their faces that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They already have their reward.

»Cuando ustedes ayunen, no se muestren afligidos, como los hipócritas, porque ellos demudan su rostro para mostrar a la gente que están ayunando; de cierto les digo que ya se han ganado su recompensa.

17 B ut thou, when thou dost fast, anoint thine head, and wash thy face

Pero tú, cuando ayunes, perfúmate la cabeza y lávate la cara,

18 t hat thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father who is in secret; and thy Father, who sees in secret, shall reward thee openly.

para no mostrar a los demás que estás ayunando, sino a tu Padre que está en secreto, y tu Padre que ve en lo secreto te recompensará en público. Tesoros en el cielo

19 ¶ Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal;

»No acumulen ustedes tesoros en la tierra, donde la polilla y el óxido corroen, y donde los ladrones minan y hurtan.

20 b ut lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust corrupt and where thieves do not break through nor steal;

Por el contrario, acumulen tesoros en el cielo, donde ni la polilla ni el óxido corroen, y donde los ladrones no minan ni hurtan.

21 f or where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Pues donde esté tu tesoro, allí estará también tu corazón. La lámpara del cuerpo

22 T he lamp of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye is sincere, thy whole body shall be full of light.

»La lámpara del cuerpo es el ojo; así que, si tu ojo es bueno, todo tu cuerpo estará lleno de luz;

23 B ut if thine eye is evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If, therefore, the light that is in thee is darkness, how great is that darkness!

pero si tu ojo es malo, todo tu cuerpo estará a oscuras. Y si la luz que hay en ti es oscuridad, ¡cuán oscura no será la misma oscuridad! Dios y las riquezas

24 N o one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and riches.

»Nadie puede servir a dos amos, pues odiará a uno y amará al otro, o estimará a uno y menospreciará al otro. Ustedes no pueden servir a Dios y a las riquezas. El afán y la ansiedad

25 ¶ Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink, nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than food, and the body than raiment?

»Por lo tanto les digo: No se preocupen por su vida, ni por qué comerán o qué beberán; ni con qué cubrirán su cuerpo. ¿Acaso no vale más la vida que el alimento, y el cuerpo más que el vestido?

26 B ehold the fowls of the air, for they sow not, neither do they reap nor gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are ye not much better than they?

Miren las aves del cielo, que no siembran, ni cosechan, ni recogen en graneros, y el Padre celestial las alimenta. ¿Acaso no valen ustedes mucho más que ellas?

27 W hich of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

¿Y quién de ustedes, por mucho que lo intente, puede añadir medio metro a su estatura?

28 A nd why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they toil not, neither do they spin;

¿Y por qué se preocupan por el vestido? Observen cómo crecen los lirios del campo: no trabajan ni hilan,

29 a nd yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

y aun así ni el mismo Salomón, con toda su gloria, se vistió como uno de ellos.

30 T herefore, if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

Pues si Dios viste así a la hierba, que hoy está en el campo y mañana se echa en el horno, ¿no hará mucho más por ustedes, hombres de poca fe?

31 T herefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, With what shall we be clothed?

Por lo tanto, no se preocupen ni se pregunten “¿Qué comeremos, o qué beberemos, o qué vestiremos?”

32 F or the Gentiles seek after all these things.) For your heavenly Father knows that ye have need of all these things.

Porque la gente anda tras todo esto, pero su Padre celestial sabe que ustedes tienen necesidad de todas estas cosas.

33 B ut seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.

Por lo tanto, busquen primeramente el reino de Dios y su justicia, y todas estas cosas les serán añadidas.

34 T ake therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the affliction thereof.

»Así que, no se preocupen por el día de mañana, porque el día de mañana traerá sus propias preocupaciones. ¡Ya bastante tiene cada día con su propio mal!
