1 ¶ Behold, the LORD makes the earth empty and makes it naked and turns it upside down and scatters abroad its inhabitants.

¡Miren, el Señor deja la tierra desnuda y vacía! ¡Trastorna su faz y esparce a sus habitantes!

2 A nd it shall be, as with the people so with the priest; as with the slave so with his master; as with the maid so with her mistress; as with the buyer so with the seller; as with the lender so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury so with the giver of usury to him.

Lo mismo sucede entre pueblo y sacerdote, entre criado y amo, entre criada y ama, entre comprador y vendedor, entre acreedor y deudor, entre el que presta y el que pide prestado.

3 T he land shall be utterly emptied and utterly spoiled: for the LORD has spoken this word.

La tierra ha quedado totalmente vacía y saqueada, porque el Señor ha emitido esta sentencia.

4 T he earth has destroyed itself and fallen; the world has become sick and fallen; the haughty peoples of the earth are become sick.

La tierra ha quedado destruida. Cayó enferma, y con ella también el mundo. ¡El cielo y la tierra se enfermaron!

5 T he earth is also become bankrupt under its inhabitants because they have transgressed the laws, falsified the order, broken the everlasting covenant.

La tierra quedó contaminada por causa de sus habitantes, pues transgredieron las leyes, falsearon el derecho, y quebrantaron el pacto eterno.

6 T herefore the curse has consumed the earth, and those that dwell therein are found guilty; therefore, the inhabitants of the earth are consumed, and few men left.

Por eso la maldición consume la tierra, y sus habitantes son asolados; por eso han sido consumidos los habitantes de la tierra y son muy pocos los que aún quedan.

7 T he new wine is lost; the vine is sick; all those who were merryhearted sigh.

El vino se ha perdido, pues la vid se marchita; ¡gimen todos los de alegre corazón!

8 T he mirth of tambourines ceases; the noise of those that rejoice ends; the joy of the harp ceases.

Ha cesado la alegría de los panderos y del arpa; se ha acabado el alboroto de los que se divierten.

9 T hey shall not drink wine with a song; the drink shall be bitter to them that would drink it.

Ya no mezclan el vino con los cantos; la sidra les sabe amarga a quienes la toman.

10 T he city of confusion is broken down: every house is shut up that no man may come in.

Desolada y vacía está la ciudad; todas las casas se han cerrado, y no entra nadie.

11 T here is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened; the mirth of the land is gone.

Hay clamor en las calles porque falta el vino; se apagó el gozo, desapareció del país la alegría.

12 I n the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction.

La ciudad ha quedado en ruinas; la puerta fue derribada.

13 ¶ For thus it shall be in the midst of the land among the peoples as the shaking of an olive tree, as the gleanings when the vintage is done.

En medio de la tierra y de los pueblos sucederá lo que sucede con los olivos sacudidos y con lo que queda después de la vendimia.

14 T hese shall lift up their voice; they shall sing joyfully in the majesty of the LORD; they shall lift up their voice from the sea.

Pero habrá quienes alcen la voz y canten con gozo por la grandeza del Señor. Desde el mar darán voces:

15 T herefore glorify ye the LORD in the valleys; let the LORD God of Israel be called upon by name in the isles of the sea.

«¡Glorifiquen en los valles y en las costas del mar el nombre del Señor, Dios de Israel!»

16 ¶ From the uttermost part of the earth we have heard psalms, Glory to the righteous one. But I said, My leanness, my leanness, woe unto me! The treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously.

Desde lo último de la tierra oímos que se canta: «¡Gloria al Justo!» Y yo digo: «¡Ay de mí! ¡Qué desdicha, qué desdicha! ¡Los traidores traicionan! ¡Y sólo saben traicionar!»

17 F ear and the pit and the snare are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.

Contra ti, habitante del país, hay terror, foso y trampa.

18 A nd it shall come to pass that he who shall flee from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that shall come up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: because from on high, windows have been opened, and the foundations of the earth shall shake.

Cuando quieras huir de la voz del terror, caerás en el foso; y cuando quieras salir del foso, caerás en la trampa. Porque se abrirán las ventanas de los cielos, y temblarán los fundamentos de la tierra.

19 T he earth shall be utterly broken down; the earth is clean dissolved; the earth is moved exceedingly.

Sí, la tierra será totalmente destruida, del todo desmenuzada, en gran manera sacudida.

20 T he earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard and shall be removed like a cottage; and its transgression shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall and never rise again.

Se tambaleará como un ebrio, será removida como una choza; bajo el peso de su pecado caerá, y nunca más volverá a levantarse.

21 A nd it shall come to pass in that day that the LORD shall visit punishment upon the host of the high ones that are on high and upon the kings of the earth on the earth.

Cuando llegue ese día, el Señor castigará en lo alto al ejército de los cielos, y en este mundo a los reyes de la tierra.

22 A nd they shall be gathered together as prisoners are gathered in the pit and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days they shall be visited.

Y serán amontonados en una mazmorra, como se amontona a los encarcelados. En esa prisión quedarán encerrados, y después de un largo tiempo serán llamados a cuentas.

23 T hen the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of the hosts shall reign in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and in the presence of his ancients he shall be glorious.

Cuando el Señor de los ejércitos reine en el monte Sión y en Jerusalén, y muestre su gloria ante sus ancianos, la blanca luna se pondrá roja de vergüenza, y el ardiente sol palidecerá.
