1 ¶ Doth not wisdom cry, and give her voice to intelligence?

¿Acaso no está llamando la sabiduría? ¿Qué, no deja oír su voz la inteligencia?

2 S he stands in the top of high places, by the way at the crossroads of the paths.

Se para en las colinas, junto al camino; se queda esperando en las encrucijadas.

3 S he cries at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.

Deja oír su voz a un lado de las puertas; a la entrada misma de la ciudad exclama:

4 U nto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of men.

«A ustedes, los hombres, los llamo; a ustedes, los hombres, dirijo mi voz.

5 O ye simple, understand prudence; and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.

Muchachos ingenuos, ¡entiendan! Jóvenes necios, ¡recapaciten!

6 H ear, for I will speak of excellent things, and the opening of my lips shall be right things.

¡Óiganme, que lo que voy a decirles son cosas muy justas e importantes.

7 F or my mouth shall speak truth, and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

De mi boca sólo sale la verdad; mis labios aborrecen la mentira.

8 A ll the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing perverse or twisted in them.

Todas mis palabras son precisas; no hay en ellas dolo ni perversidad.

9 T hey are all plain to him that understands and right to those that have found wisdom.

Para los sabios y entendidos, todas ellas son contundentes y razonables.

10 R eceive my chastening and not silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold.

Den cabida a mis correcciones, no a la plata; acepten mis conocimientos, no el oro escogido.

11 F or wisdom is better than precious stones; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

Yo, la sabiduría, valgo más que las piedras preciosas! ¡Ni lo más deseable puede compararse conmigo!

12 ¶ I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and I invent the knowledge of giving counsel.

»Yo, la sabiduría, convivo con la cordura; en mí se hallan el conocimiento y el consejo.

13 T he fear of the LORD is to hate evil; pride, arrogancy, the evil way, and the perverse mouth, do I hate.

El temor del Señor es aborrecer el mal; yo aborrezco la soberbia y la arrogancia, el mal camino y la boca perversa.

14 W ith me is counsel, and existence; I am understanding; strength belongs to me.

En mí se hallan el consejo y el buen juicio; yo soy la inteligencia; mío es el poder.

15 B y me the kings reign, and the princes decree justice.

Por mí llegan los reyes al trono y los príncipes imparten justicia.

16 B y me the princes rule, and all of the governors judge the earth.

Por mí gobiernan los jefes y príncipes, y todos los que rigen con justicia.

17 I love those that love me, and those that seek me early shall find me.

Yo amo a los que me aman, y dejo que me hallen los que en verdad me buscan.

18 R iches and honour are with me, yea, durable riches and righteousness.

Las riquezas y la honra me acompañan, las verdaderas riquezas y la justicia.

19 M y fruit is better than gold, yea, than precious stones, and my revenue than choice silver.

Mis frutos son mejores que el oro más refinado; mis ganancias sobrepasan a la plata escogida.

20 I shall lead in the way of righteousness in the midst of the paths of judgment,

Yo voy por el camino recto; camino por las sendas de la justicia,

21 t hat I may cause my friends to inherit existence and I will fill their treasures.

para dar su herencia a los que me aman, para saturarlos de tesoros.

22 ¶ The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.

»Desde el principio, el Señor me poseía; desde antes de que empezara sus obras.

23 I was set up with eternal dominion, from the beginning, before the earth was.

Desde el principio mismo fui establecida, desde antes de que la tierra existiera.

24 I was begotten before the depths, before the existence of the fountains of many waters.

Fui engendrada antes de los abismos, antes de que existieran los grandes manantiales.

25 B efore the mountains were founded, before the hills was I begotten.

Fui engendrada antes de que se formaran los montes y las colinas.

26 W hile as yet he had not made the earth nor the fields nor the beginning of the dust of the world,

Aún no había creado él la tierra ni los campos, ni los primeros granos de arena del mundo,

27 w hen he composed the heavens, I was there. When he set a compass upon the face of the depth,

¡y ya estaba yo ahí! Mientras él formaba los cielos y trazaba el arco sobre la faz del abismo,

28 w hen he established the clouds above, when he strengthened the fountains of the deep,

mientras afirmaba las nubes en las alturas, mientras reforzaba las fuentes del abismo,

29 w hen he gave to the sea his decree that the waters should not pass his commandment, when he appointed the foundations of the earth,

mientras establecía los límites del mar para que las aguas no traspasaran su cauce, ¡mientras afirmaba los fundamentos de la tierra!

30 I was with him ordering everything; I was his delight every day, being content before him at all times;

Yo estaba a su lado, ordenándolo todo, danzando alegremente todos los días, disfrutando siempre de su presencia,

31 I am content in the circumference of his earth, and my contentment is with the sons of men.

regocijándome en la tierra, su creación; ¡deleitándome con el género humano!»

32 ¶ Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye sons; for blessed are those that keep my ways.

Hijos, por favor, ¡escúchenme! ¡Dichosos los que siguen mis caminos!

33 H earken unto chastening, and be wise; refuse it not.

Sean sabios y préstenme atención; no dejen de lado la disciplina.

34 B lessed is the man that hears me, keeping vigil at my gates, waiting at the threshold of my doors.

Dichoso el hombre que me escucha y todo el tiempo se mantiene vigilante a las puertas de mi casa.

35 F or whosoever finds me shall find life and shall obtain the will of the LORD.

El que me halla, ha encontrado la vida y alcanzado el favor del Señor.

36 B ut he that sins against me wrongs his own soul; all those that hate me love death.

El que peca contra mí, se daña a sí mismo; el que me aborrece, ama a la muerte.
