1 ¶ Doth not wisdom cry, and give her voice to intelligence?

Чи ж мудрість не кличе, і не подає свого голосу розум?

2 S he stands in the top of high places, by the way at the crossroads of the paths.

На верхів'ях холмів, при дорозі та на перехрестях стоїть он вона!

3 S he cries at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.

При брамах, при вході до міста, де входиться в двері, там голосно кличе вона:

4 U nto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of men.

До вас, мужі, я кличу, а мій голос до людських синів:

5 O ye simple, understand prudence; and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.

Зрозумійте но, неуки, мудрість, зрозумійте ви розум, безглузді!

6 H ear, for I will speak of excellent things, and the opening of my lips shall be right things.

Послухайте, я бо шляхетне кажу, і відкриття моїх губ то простота.

7 F or my mouth shall speak truth, and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

Бо правду говорять уста мої, а лукавство гидота для губ моїх.

8 A ll the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing perverse or twisted in them.

Всі слова моїх уст справедливі, нема в них крутійства й лукавства.

9 T hey are all plain to him that understands and right to those that have found wisdom.

Усі вони прості, хто їх розуміє, і щирі для тих, хто знаходить знання.

10 R eceive my chastening and not silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold.

Візьміть ви картання моє, а не срібло, і знання, добірніше від щирого золота:

11 F or wisdom is better than precious stones; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

ліпша бо мудрість за перли, і не рівняються їй всі клейноди!

12 ¶ I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and I invent the knowledge of giving counsel.

Я, мудрість, живу разом з розумом, і знаходжу пізнання розважне.

13 T he fear of the LORD is to hate evil; pride, arrogancy, the evil way, and the perverse mouth, do I hate.

Страх Господній лихе все ненавидіти: я ненавиджу пиху та гордість, і дорогу лиху та лукаві уста!

14 W ith me is counsel, and existence; I am understanding; strength belongs to me.

В мене рада й оглядність, я розум, і сила у мене.

15 B y me the kings reign, and the princes decree justice.

Мною царюють царі, а законодавці права справедливі встановлюють.

16 B y me the princes rule, and all of the governors judge the earth.

Мною правлять владики й вельможні, всі праведні судді.

17 I love those that love me, and those that seek me early shall find me.

Я кохаю всіх тих, хто кохає мене, хто ж шукає мене мене знайде!

18 R iches and honour are with me, yea, durable riches and righteousness.

Зо мною багатство та слава, тривалий маєток та правда:

19 M y fruit is better than gold, yea, than precious stones, and my revenue than choice silver.

ліпший плід мій від щирого золота й золота чистого, а прибуток мій ліпший за срібло добірне!

20 I shall lead in the way of righteousness in the midst of the paths of judgment,

Путтю праведною я ходжу, поміж правних стежок,

21 t hat I may cause my friends to inherit existence and I will fill their treasures.

щоб дати багатство в спадщину для тих, хто кохає мене, і я понаповнюю їхні скарбниці!

22 ¶ The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.

Господь мене мав на початку Своєї дороги, перше чинів Своїх, спервовіку,

23 I was set up with eternal dominion, from the beginning, before the earth was.

відвіку була я встановлена, від початку, від правіку землі.

24 I was begotten before the depths, before the existence of the fountains of many waters.

Народжена я, як безодень іще не було, коли не було ще джерел, водою обтяжених.

25 B efore the mountains were founded, before the hills was I begotten.

Народжена я, поки гори поставлені ще не були, давніше за пагірки,

26 W hile as yet he had not made the earth nor the fields nor the beginning of the dust of the world,

коли ще землі не вчинив Він, ні піль, ні початкового пороху всесвіту.

27 w hen he composed the heavens, I was there. When he set a compass upon the face of the depth,

Коли приправляв небеса я була там, коли круга вставляв на поверхні безодні,

28 w hen he established the clouds above, when he strengthened the fountains of the deep,

коли хмари уміцнював Він нагорі, як джерела безодні зміцняв,

29 w hen he gave to the sea his decree that the waters should not pass his commandment, when he appointed the foundations of the earth,

коли клав Він для моря устава його, щоб його берегів вода не переходила, коли ставив основи землі,

30 I was with him ordering everything; I was his delight every day, being content before him at all times;

то я майстром у Нього була, і була я веселощами день-у-день, радіючи перед обличчям Його кожночасно,

31 I am content in the circumference of his earth, and my contentment is with the sons of men.

радіючи на земнім крузі Його, а забава моя із синами людськими!

32 ¶ Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye sons; for blessed are those that keep my ways.

Тепер же, послухайте, діти, мене, і блаженні, хто буде дороги мої стерегти!

33 H earken unto chastening, and be wise; refuse it not.

Навчання послухайте й мудрими станьте, і не відступайте від нього!

34 B lessed is the man that hears me, keeping vigil at my gates, waiting at the threshold of my doors.

Блаженна людина, яка мене слухає, щоб пильнувати при дверях моїх день-у-день, щоб одвірки мої берегти!

35 F or whosoever finds me shall find life and shall obtain the will of the LORD.

Хто бо знаходить мене, той знаходить життя, і одержує милість від Господа.

36 B ut he that sins against me wrongs his own soul; all those that hate me love death.

А хто проти мене грішить, ограбовує душу свою; всі, хто мене ненавидить, ті смерть покохали!
