1 ¶ The words of King Lemuel, the prophecy with which his mother taught him.

2 W hat, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?

Що, сину мій, і що, сину утроби моєї, і що, сину обітниць моїх?

3 D o not give thy strength nor thy ways unto the women who destroy kings.

Не давай жінкам сили своєї, ні доріг своїх для руйнувальниць царів!

4 I t is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor is beer for princes

Не царям, Лемуїле, вино, не царям, і напій той п'янкий не князям,

5 l est they drink and forget the law and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

щоб не впився він та не забув про Закона, і щоб не змінив для всіх гноблених права!

6 G ive beer unto him that is ready to perish and wine unto those that have heavy hearts.

Дайте напою п'янкого тому, хто гине, а вина гіркодухим:

7 T hey drink and forget their need and remember their misery no more.

він вип'є й забуде за бідність свою, і муки своєї вже не пам'ятатиме!

8 O pen thy mouth for those who cannot speak in the judgment of all the sons of death.

Відкривай свої уста немові, для суда всім нещасним.

9 O pen thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and destitute.

Відкривай свої уста, й суди справедливо, і правосуддя зроби для убогого та для нужденного.

10 ¶ Aleph Who can find a valiant woman? for her price is far above precious stones.

Хто жінку чеснотну знайде? а ціна її більша від перел:

11 B eth The heart of her husband safely trusts in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.

довіряє їй серце її чоловіка, і йому не забракне прибутку!

12 G imel She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

Вона чинить для нього добро, а не зло, по всі дні свого життя.

13 D aleth She sought wool and flax and worked willingly with her hands.

Шукає вона вовни й льону, і робить охоче своїми руками.

14 H e She was like the merchants’ ships; she brings her food from afar.

Вона, немов кораблі ті купецькі, здалека спроваджує хліб свій.

15 V au She rose up even at night and gave food to her family and a portion to her maidens.

І встане вона ще вночі, і видасть для дому свого поживу, а порядок служницям своїм.

16 Z ain She considered the inheritance and bought it; with the fruit of her hands she planted a vineyard.

Про поле вона намишляла, і його набула, із плоду долоней своїх засадила вона виноградника.

17 C heth She girded her loins with strength and strengthened her arms.

Вона підперізує силою стегна свої та зміцняє рамена свої.

18 T eth She perceived that her merchandise was good; her fire did not go out by night.

Вона розуміє, що добра робота її, і світильник її не погасне вночі.

19 J od She laid her hands to the spindle, and her hands held the distaff.

Вона руки свої простягає до прядки, а долоні її веретено тримають.

20 C aph She stretched out her hand to the poor; yea, she reached forth her hands to the destitute.

Долоню свою відкриває для вбогого, а руки свої простягає до бідного.

21 L amed She shall not be afraid of the snow for her family, for all her family is clothed with double garments.

Холоду в домі своїм не боїться вона, бо подвійно одягнений ввесь її дім.

22 M em She makes herself tapestries; her clothing is of fine linen and purple.

Килими поробила собі, віссон та кармазин убрання її.

23 N un Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land.

Чоловік її знаний при брамах, як сидить він із старшими краю.

24 S amech She made fine linen and sold it and delivered girdles unto the merchant.

Тонку туніку робить вона й продає, і купцеві дає пояси.

25 A in Strength and glory is her clothing, and she shall laugh in the last day.

Сила та пишність одежа її, і сміється вона до прийдещнього дня.

26 P e She opened her mouth with wisdom, and the law of mercy is upon her tongue.

Свої уста вона відкриває на мудрість, і милостива наука їй на язиці.

27 T zaddi She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat bread in idleness.

Доглядає вона ходи дому свого, і хліба з лінивства не їсть.

28 K oph Her sons rose up and called her blessed; her husband also, and he praised her.

Устають її діти, і хвалять її, чоловік її й він похваляє її:

29 R esh Many daughters have done valiantly, but thou dost excel them all.

Багато було тих чеснотних дочок, та ти їх усіх перевищила!

30 S chin Grace is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but the woman that fears the LORD shall be praised.

Краса то омана, а врода марнота, жінка ж богобоязна вона буде хвалена!

31 T au Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.

Дайте їй з плоду рук її, і нехай її вчинки її вихваляють при брамах!
