1 ¶ Moreover, the LORD answered Job and said,

І говорив Господь Йову й сказав:

2 S hall he that contends with the Almighty instruct him? Let him that disputes with God answer this.

Чи буде ставати на прю з Всемогутнім огудник? Хто сперечається з Богом, хай на це відповість!

3 T hen Job answered the LORD and said,

І Йов відповів Господеві й сказав:

4 B ehold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay my hand over my mouth.

Оце я знікчемнів, що ж маю Тобі відповісти? Я кладу свою руку на уста свої...

5 O nce I have spoken; but I will not answer; even twice, but I will proceed no further.

Я раз говорив був, і вже не скажу, а вдруге і більш не додам!...

6 ¶ Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said,

І відповів Господь Йову із бурі й сказав:

7 G ird up thy loins now like a man; I will ask thee, and explain thou unto me.

Підпережи но ти стегна свої, як мужчина: Я буду питати тебе, ти ж пояснюй Мені!

8 W ilt thou disannul my judgment? Wilt thou condemn me, that thou may be justified?

Чи ти хочеш порушити право Моє, винуватити Мене, щоб оправданим бути?

9 H ast thou an arm like God? And canst thou thunder with a voice like him?

Коли маєш рамено, як Бог, і голосом ти загримиш, немов Він,

10 D eck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty.

то окрась Ти себе пишнотою й величністю, зодягнися у славу й красу!

11 C ast abroad the rage of thy wrath; and behold every one that is proud and bring him down.

Розпорош лютість гніву свого, і поглянь на все горде й принизь ти його!

12 L ook on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.

Поглянь на все горде й його впокори, поспихай нечестивих на їхньому місці,

13 H ide them in the dust together; and blindfold their faces in darkness.

поховай їх у поросі разом, а їхні обличчя обвий в укритті.

14 T hen I will also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.

Тоді й Я тебе славити буду, як правиця твоя допоможе тобі!

15 ¶ Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eats grass as an ox.

А ось бегемот, що його Я створив, як тебе, траву, як худоба велика, він їсть.

16 B ehold now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.

Ото сила його в його стегнах, його ж міцність у м'язах його живота.

17 H e moves his tail like a cedar; the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.

Випростовує він, немов кедра, свойого хвоста, жили стегон його посплітались.

18 H is bones are as strong as brass; his members are like bars of iron.

Його кості немов мідяні оті рури, костомахи його як ті пруття залізні.

19 H e is the beginning of the ways of God; he that made him shall make his sword draw near unto him.

Голова оце Божих доріг; і тільки Творець його може зблизити до нього меча...

20 S urely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.

Бо гори приносять поживу йому, і там грається вся звірина польова.

21 H e shall lie down under the shade, in the covert of the reeds and of the damp places.

Під лотосами він вилежується, в укритті очерету й болота.

22 T he shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.

Лотоси тінню своєю вкривають його, тополі поточні його обгортають.

23 B ehold, he shall drink up a river and not change; he trusts that he can draw up the Jordan into his mouth.

Ось підіймається річка, та він не боїться її, він безпечний, хоча б сам Йордан йому в пащу впливав!

24 H is maker shall take him by the weakness of his eyes in a snare, and pierce through his nose.

Хто може схопити його в його очах, гаками ніздрю продіравити?
