1 ¶ In the year twenty-three of Joash, the son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz the son of Jehu, began to reign over Israel in Samaria and reigned seventeen years.

Двадцятого й третього року Йоаша, сина Ахазії, Юдиного царя, зацарював над Ізраїлем у Самарії Єгоахаз, син Єгу, на сімнадцять літ.

2 A nd he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD and followed the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin; and he did not depart from them.

І робив він зло в Господніх очах, і ходив у гріхах Єровоама, Неватового сина, що вводив у гріх Ізраїля, і не відхилявся від того.

3 A nd the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael, king of Syria, and into the hand of Benhadad, the son of Hazael, all their days.

І запалився гнів Господа на Ізраїля, і Він дав їх у руку Газаїла, царя сирійського, та в руку Бен-Гадада, Газаїлового сина, на всі ті дні.

4 B ut Jehoahaz grieved before the LORD, and the LORD hearkened unto him, for he saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them.

Та вблагав Єгоахаз лице Господнє, і Господь його вислухав, бо бачив Він горе Ізраїля, бо тиснув їх сирійський цар.

5 ( And the LORD gave Israel a saviour so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians, and the sons of Israel dwelt in their tents as beforetime.

І дав Господь Ізраїлеві спасителя, і вони вийшли з-під руки Сирії. І сиділи Ізраїлеві сини в своїх наметах, як давніш.

6 W ith all this, they did not depart from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who made Israel sin, but walked in them; and the grove also remained in Samaria.)

Тільки не відійшли вони з гріхів дому Єровоама, що вводив у гріх Ізраїля, і сам у тому ходив, і Астарта стояла в Самарії.

7 N either did he leave of the people to Jehoahaz but fifty horsemen and ten chariots and ten thousand footmen, for the king of Syria had destroyed them, and had made them like dust to be tread upon.

А Сирія не позоставила Єгоахазові народу, як тільки п'ятдесят верхівців та десять возів, та десять тисяч піхоти, бо їх вигубив сирійський цар, і зробив їх порохом на топтання.

8 N ow the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz and all that he did and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

А решта діл Єгоахаза, і все, що він робив, та його лицарськість, он вони написані в Книзі Ізраїлевих царів.

9 A nd Jehoahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria; and Joash, his son, reigned in his stead.

І спочив Єгоахаз з батьками своїми, і поховали його в Самарії, а замість нього зацарював син його Йоаш.

10 ¶ In the year thirty-seven of Joash, king of Judah, Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz, began to reign over Israel in Samaria and reigned sixteen years.

Тридцятого й сьомого року Йоаша, Юдиного царя, зацарював над Ізраїлем у Самарії Йоаш, Єгоахазів син, на шістнадцять літ.

11 A nd he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD; he did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin; he walked in them.

І робив він зле в Господніх очах, і не відходив від усіх гріхів Єровоама, Неватового сина, що вводив у гріх Ізраїля, і в тому ходив.

12 A nd the rest of the acts of Joash and all that he did, and his might with which he fought against Amaziah, king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

А решта діл Йоаша, і все, що він робив, і лицарськість його, як він воював з Амацією, Юдиним царем, он вони написані в Книзі Хроніки Ізраїлевих царів.

13 A nd Joash slept with his fathers, and Jeroboam sat upon his throne; and Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.

І спочив Йоаш з батьками своїми, а Єровоам сів на троні його. І був похований Йоаш у Самарії, з Ізраїлевими царями.

14 N ow Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness of which he died. And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariots of Israel, and the horsemen thereof!

А Єлисей заслаб на недугу, що з неї й помер. І зійшов до нього Йоаш, Ізраїлів цар, і плакав над ним і говорив: Батьку мій, батьку мій, колеснице Ізраїлева та верхівці його!

15 A nd Elisha said unto him, Take the bow and the arrows. And he took unto him the bow and the arrows.

І сказав йому Єлисей: Візьми лука та стріли. І приніс той до нього лука та стріли.

16 A nd he said to the king of Israel, Put thy hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon it; and Elisha put his hands upon the king’s hands.

А він сказав Ізраїлевому цареві: Поклади свою руку на лука! І той поклав свою руку. А Єлисей поклав свої руки на руки цареві.

17 A nd he said, Open the window towards the east. And when he opened it Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the LORD’s salvation, and the arrow of salvation from Syria; for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, until thou have consumed them.

І він сказав: Відчини вікно на схід! І той відчинив. І сказав Єлисей: Стріляй! І той вистрілив, а він сказав: Стріла спасіння Господнього, і стріла спасіння проти Сирії. І поб'єш ти Сирію в Афеку аж до кінця!

18 A nd he said again, Take the arrows. And he took them. Then he said to the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And he smote three times, and stopped.

І він сказав: Візьми стріли! І той узяв, а він сказав до Ізраїлевого царя: Удар по землі! І він ударив три рази та й став.

19 T hen the man of God was angry with him, and said, If thou would have smitten five or six times; then thou would have smitten Syria until thou had consumed it; whereas now thou shalt smite Syria three times.

І розгнівався на нього Божий чоловік і сказав: Щоб ти був ударив п'ять або шість раз, тоді побив би Сирію аж до кінця! А тепер тільки три рази поб'єш ти Сирію.

20 ¶ And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.

І спочив Єлисей, і поховали його. А моавські орди прийшли до Краю наступного року.

21 A nd it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha; and when the dead man touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.

І сталося, як ховали одного чоловіка, то погребальники побачили ті орди, та й кинули того чоловіка до Єлисеєвого гробу. А коли впав і доторкнувся той чоловік до Єлисеєвих костей, то воскрес, і встав на ноги свої...

22 S o Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.

А Газаїл, сирійський цар, тиснув Ізраїля всі дні Єгоахаза.

23 B ut the LORD was merciful unto them, and had compassion on them, and looked upon them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and did not desire to destroy them or to cast them from his presence as yet.

Та Господь був милостивий до них, і змилувався над ними, і звернувся до них ради заповіта Свого з Авраамом, Ісаком та Яковом, і не хотів вигубити їх, і не відкинув їх від Свого лиця аж дотепер.

24 A nd Hazael king of Syria died; and Benhadad his son reigned in his stead.

І спочив Газаїл, сирійський цар, а замість нього зацарював син його Бен-Гадад.

25 A nd Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael the cities, which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz, his father, by war. Three times did Joash smite him, and he recovered the cities of Israel.

І Йоаш, Єгоахазів син, узяв назад ті міста з руки Бен-Гадада, Газаїлового сина, що взяв був із руки Єгоахаза, свого батька, у війні. Три рази побив його Йоаш, і вернув Ізраїлеві міста.
