1 ¶ But the sons of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD when Ehud was dead.

А Ізраїлеві сини ще більше чинили зло в Господніх очах, а Егуд умер.

2 A nd the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin, king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor, the captain of whose host was Sisera, and he dwelt in Harosheth of the Gentiles.

І передав їх Господь у руку Явіна, царя ханаанського, що царював у Гацорі. А зверхником його війська був Сісера, і він сидів у Харошет-Ґаґґоїмі.

3 A nd the sons of Israel cried unto the LORD, for he had nine hundred chariots of iron, and he had mightily oppressed the sons of Israel for twenty years.

І кликали Ізраїлеві сини до Господа, бо той мав дев'ятсот залізних колесниць, і він сильно утискав Ізраїлевих синів двадцять літ.

4 ¶ And a woman judged Israel at that time, Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth.

А Девора пророчиця, жінка Лаппідота, вона судила Ізраїля того часу.

5 T his Deborah dwelt under a palm tree between Ramah and Bethel in Mount Ephraim, and the sons of Israel came up to her for judgment.

І сиділа вона під Девориною Пальмою, між Рамою та між Бет-Елом в Єфремових горах, а Ізраїлеві сини приходили до неї на суд.

6 A nd she sent and called Barak, the son of Abinoam, out of Kedesh of Naphtali and said unto him, Has not the LORD God of Israel commanded thee, saying, Go and draw toward Mount Tabor and take with thee ten thousand men of the sons of Naphtali and of the sons of Zebulun?

І вона послала й покликала Барака, Авіноамового сина, з Кедешу Нефталимового. І сказала до нього: Ось наказав Господь, Бог Ізраїлів: Іди, зійдеш на гору фавор, і візьмеш з собою десять тисяч чоловіка з синів Нефталимових та з синів Завулонових.

7 A nd I will draw Sisera, the captain of Jabin’s army, unto thee to the river Kishon, with his chariots and his multitude, and I will deliver him into thy hands.

А я приведу до тебе, до Кішонської долини, Сісеру, начальника Явінового війська, і колесниці його, і натовп його, та й дам його в твою руку.

8 A nd Barak said unto her, If thou wilt go with me, then I will go; but if thou wilt not go with me, then I will not go.

І сказав до неї Барак: Якщо ти підеш зо мною, то піду, а якщо не підеш зо мною, не піду.

9 A nd she said, I will surely go with thee, but thy honour shall not be in the way that thou goest; for the LORD shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh.

А вона відказала: Піти піду з тобою, тільки не буде твоя слава на тій дорозі, якою ти підеш, бо в руку жінки Господь передасть Сісеру. І встала Девора, і пішла з Бараком до Кедешу.

10 ¶ And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh, and he went up with ten thousand men on foot, and Deborah went up with him.

І скликав Барак Завулона та Нефталима до Кедешу, і пішло за ним десять тисяч чоловіка. І пішла з ним Девора.

11 N ow Heber, the Kenite, of the sons of Hobab, the father-in-law of Moses, had severed himself from the Kenites and pitched his tent unto the plain of Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh.

А кенеянин Хевер відділився від Каїна, з Ховавових синів, Мойсеєвого тестя, і розклав намета свого аж до Елону в Цаананімі, що при Кедеші.

12 A nd the news came unto Sisera that Barak, the son of Abinoam, was gone up to Mount Tabor.

І донесли Сісері, що Барак, син Авіноамів, зійшов на гору Фавор.

13 A nd Sisera gathered together all his chariots, even nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people that were with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles unto the river of Kishon.

І скликав Сісера всі свої колесниці, дев'ятсот залізних колесниць, та ввесь народ, що з ним, з Харошет-Ґаґґоїму до кішонської долини.

14 T hen Deborah said unto Barak, Rise up, for this is the day in which the LORD has delivered Sisera into thy hands. Is not the LORD gone out before thee? So Barak went down from Mount Tabor and ten thousand men after him.

І сказала Девора до Барака: Уставай, бо це той день, коли Господь дав Сісеру в твою руку. Ось Господь вийшов перед тобою. І зійшов Барак з гори Фавор, а за ним десять тисяч чоловіка.

15 A nd the LORD broke Sisera and all his chariots and all his host with the edge of the sword before Barak so that Sisera lighted down off his chariot and fled away on foot.

І Господь привів у замішання Сісеру, і всі колесниці та ввесь той табір вістрям меча перед Бараком. І зійшов Сісера з колесниці, і побіг пішки.

16 B ut Barak pursued after the chariots and after the host unto Harosheth of the Gentiles, and all the camp of Sisera fell by the edge of the sword, and there was not a man left.

А Барак гнався за колесницями та за табором аж до Харошет-Ґаґґоїму. І впав увесь табір Сісерин від вістря меча, не позосталось ані одного.

17 ¶ And Sisera fled on foot to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, for there was peace between Jabin, the king of Hazor, and the house of Heber the Kenite.

А Сісера втік пішки до намету Яїли, жінки кенеянина Хевера, бо був мир між Явіном, царем Гацору, та між домом кенеянина Хевера.

18 A nd Jael went out to meet Sisera and said unto him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; fear not. And when he had turned in unto her into the tent, she covered him with a thick coverlet.

І вийшла Яїл навпроти Сісери, і сказала до нього: Зайди, пане мій, зайди до мене, не бійся! І він зайшов до неї до намету, і вона накрила його килимом.

19 A nd he said unto her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink, for I am thirsty. And she opened a bottle of milk and gave him to drink and covered him again.

І сказав він до неї: Напій мене трохи водою, бо я спрагнений. І відкрила вона молочного бурдюка, і напоїла його, та й накрила його.

20 A gain he said unto her, Stand in the door of the tent, and if anyone should come and enquire of thee and say, Is there anyone here? Thou shalt say, No.

І сказав він до неї: Стань при вході намету. І якщо хто ввійде й запитає тебе та скаже: Чи є тут хто? то ти відповіси: Нема.

21 T hen Jael, Heber’s wife, took the tent stake, and putting a hammer in her hand, went softly unto him and smote the stake into his temples and fastened it into the ground, for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died.

І взяла Яїл, жінка Хеверона, наметового кілка, і взяла в свою руку молотка, і підійшла тихо до нього, та й всадила того кілка в його скроню, аж у землю. А він спав, змучений, і він помер.

22 A nd as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him and said unto him, Come, and I will show thee the man whom thou seekest. And when he entered into where she was, behold, Sisera lay dead with the stake through his temples.

А ось Барак женеться за Сісерою. І вийшла Яїл навпроти нього й сказала йому: Іди, і я покажу тобі того чоловіка, що ти шукаєш. І ввійшов він до неї, а ось Сісера лежить мертвий, а кілок у скроні його!...

23 S o God subjected on that day Jabin, the king of Canaan, before the sons of Israel.

Так приборкав Бог того дня Явіна, царя ханаанського, перед Ізраїлевими синами.

24 A nd the hand of the sons of Israel began to prosper and to prevail against Jabin, the king of Canaan until they had destroyed him.

А рука Ізраїлевих синів була все тяжча над Явіном, царем ханаанським, аж поки вони вигубили Явіна, царя ханаанського.
