1 ¶ The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Palestinians, before Pharaoh smote Gaza.

Слово Господнє, що було пророкові Єремії на филистимлян, перше як фараон побив Аззу.

2 T hus hath the LORD said: Behold, waters rise up out of the north and shall be an overflowing flood and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the cities and those that dwell therein; then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall howl.

Так говорить Господь: Ось підіймаються води із півночі, і стануть вони за потік заливний, і заллють вони землю та все, що на ній, місто й замешкалих в ньому, і буде кричати людина, і кожен мешканець землі заголосить...

3 A t the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong horses, at the rushing of his chariots, and at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look back to their children for feebleness of hands;

Через гук тупотіння копит баских коней його, через гуркіт його колесниць, через скрип його кіл не звернулись батьки до синів, бо зомліли їм руки,

4 b ecause of the day that comes to destroy all the Palestinians, and to cut off from Tyre and Zidon every helper that remains: for the LORD will destroy the Palestinians, the remnant of the island of Caphtor.

бо настав це той день, щоб понищити всіх филистимлян, щоб Тиру й Сидонові вигубити помічну всяку рештку... Бо понищить Господь филистимлян, рештку острова Кафтора,

5 B aldness is come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is cut off with the remnant of their valley: how long wilt thou cut thyself?

шолудивою стане Азза, згине Ашкелон, решта долини їхньої... Як довго ти будеш нарізи робити собі у жалобі?

6 O thou sword of the LORD, how long will it be ere thou be quiet? put up thyself into thy scabbard, rest, and be still.

О мечу Господній, аж доки ти не заспокоїшся? Вернися до піхви своєї, заспокойся й замовкни!

7 H ow can it be quiet, seeing the LORD has given it a charge against Ashkelon and against the sea shore? there has he appointed it.

Але як заспокоїться він, коли наказав йому це Сам Господь? До Ашкелону й до берегу моря, туди Він призначив його!...
